I'm curious what the cost is on a rebuild like this, vs new boots. Honestly looks like more work to disassemble and re-use just the upper, than it would be to make a new boot from scratch. Especially considering the cleanup, teardown, and all the eyelets have to be removed and re-installed individually.
Dear Nick & Team: Incredible skills & workmanship! Totally fascinating watching this complicated process done at such speed. I will have the utmost appreciation for the time & knowledge needed to produce every pair of shoes & boots I buy from this viewing forward. Just hope some kids watch this & want to become gifted cobbler-tradesmen like you guys.

I've been reading reviews, to see if I could come across just 1 negative comment... Try as I may, I can not find a single negative thing, being said about these boots. The more I dig into these boots (Nicks), the more impressed I become
Fantastic job Nicks. How nice to see, in this world where the craftsman will be discovered, to see these handmade masterpieces still being made. Still many congratulations!!!
So fascinating! Ive watched enough shoe repair/specialist vids now to get an understanding of what it takes to make footwear, and its so interesting to compare approaches. This feels very much like a traditional reconstruction, "how they did it". Fantastic end result!
Idk for my money I would just buy a new pair and not worry about the old uppers. To me it's like replacing 3 tires and leaving one, plus it just looks in the end. I also looked into the cost effectiveness and for me it's not there. 250-280 to do this job and the boot new is 550?! Some may say tht makes sense but I'll say you went wrong in spending 550 on boots you're gonna treat like this. I'm a Thorogood man, have owned many pairs, they've been around since 1892 and still union made in the good ol' US of A for about 250-350. Last pair I had lasted me 10 years and I soled them 3 times. As for the people saying it makes sense to keep the upper cause it's broken in, well my Thorogoods are comfortable from day one as they are years later. Light and super easy on the knees. Most truckers in my area swear by them and that's how I discovered them. So again if you can afford to drop 550 on boots you're gonna use plow to plow around in the mud then I guess it's worth it to you but for me it's just ridiculous and makes no fiscal sense.
It would seem that these shoes have a place in the trash can .... but a miracle happened, these shoes fell into the hands of a shoe wizard ..... you very competently and professionally revived these shoes to life, giving them a second chance, thanks for the video !!!

The rebuild is 200-250 and the customer practically gets a brand new boot with a broken in upper. A new pair of these is upwards of 600. Seems economical to me
@@TBeare I was about to say the same thing. A new pair needs break in time and costs around 600. I've seen full rebuilds are 300 on their site and I'd pay that in a heart beat to spare my heels and toes from hard leather for weeks lol
I worked in a heel bar uk in the 60s ,shoes had chewing gum ,shite ,mud, oil, grease, etc on them, Wanted shoes done WUW while you wait service, Many customers asked, can you just clean them? Yeah you would think they would clean and oil the upper before sending them back. Ive seen a review of another rebuild and the upper looked dirty as well. I guess it's something they just don't do.
Silly question here… I realize the benefits of a refurbishment…but in this instance shouldn’t you just replace the boot? I think it’s great for the full rebuild, but it’s literally a new boot that will need to be broken back in etc.
It's service they offer. Why buy a new boot when you have a new boot with the original upper on it and already broken in for 1/2 the price of buying new? The upper is the hardest thing to break in.
@@dqalombardi Lol! That's like saying all we did was replace the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, tires, seats and doors... otherwise, it's the same car! :-) That said, I'm glad this option exists!
@@MrRustyStrings This is debatable. I find it most difficult to brake in the foot bed and the vamp area, where my foot experiences the most movement. I guess if this rebuild costs something like $300-400 and new boots are $500-600, then this is money well spent. If this costs $500+ then I think you might as well buy a new pair of boots. What does such a rebuild cost?

I’m going to get another pair before they need resoled so I don’t go without and then I can rotate them properly. I do make sure to put cedar boot trees in them at the end of the day though.
@John Johnson yeah, boots don’t usually last long for me. The concrete dust and rebar tend to destroy them.
@John Johnson I had a pair of Red Wing moc toes that didn’t last a year before they were toast.
the craftsmanship is unbelievable..Just dont see that now days..don't think I would have saved those old boots. Seeing them transform was like restoring an old car.. Great old school "technology" thanks for great content..entertaining!!
Чтобы сохранить что то надо иметь кожанные, качественные, а сейчас шлепают за бешенные деньги, которые только на один сезон и то не факт, что проносите.
I'm curious what the cost is on a rebuild like this, vs new boots. Honestly looks like more work to disassemble and re-use just the upper, than it would be to make a new boot from scratch. Especially considering the cleanup, teardown, and all the eyelets have to be removed and re-installed individually.
$300 is the base price. Extra $30 for cleaning, $40 for tongue replacement, $30 for safety toe if needed.
600 dollar boot, 300 repair, you tell me
Like I said “ just buy a new pair of 🥾 “
New pair 70-80 dollars
Repair ? Good 150.00 no less
@@alexandraponce7073 these boots are like 500 bucks, the repairs are definitely worth it
Dear Nick & Team: Incredible skills & workmanship! Totally fascinating watching this complicated process done at such speed. I will have the utmost appreciation for the time & knowledge needed to produce every pair of shoes & boots I buy from this viewing forward. Just hope some kids watch this & want to become gifted cobbler-tradesmen like you guys.
I'm watching this breaking in my first pair of brand new Nick's! The smell of new leather is one of the best things in life!! Very glad I took the plunge on these bad boys!
ruclips.net/channel/UCK_icgfhiCxlQuYVPW6teMg
Wow! That's not a mere restauration. At this level it's a total remaking. Amazing! And how much work!
Incredible work and craftsmanship goes into this process. Crazy to think it’s a cost worthy option. Definitely appreciate the new boots made this way. They will last a long time and I’ve gotten 4 to 8 years out of my Vietnamese made Red Wings, these would probably last double.. almost as many nails as the roof on my front porch!
Impressive process. Never knew it takes as many nails to make pair of boots as it does to build a house
With that kind of heavy rebuilt, i guess it would be easier to just make a new pair! You save the time of dissassembling, cleaning and the end product will be better!
There is almost nothing left of the old pair.
While I agree, there are still some people who are attracted to their old pair and like restoration more than new boots.
@@Marshal77 Ohh if it's about love then i agree with you, the sweet nostalgia of the first boot..y love !!!
I agree with you. I could understand rebuilding a pair of custom wingtips, but work boots?
I knew the folgers coffe buckets was gonna make an appearance when I saw the lays stack bucket.... in my trade they are almost as common as tape measures ...
This is absolutely impressive!! I've been doing quite a bit of research, and just seeing what goes into these boots, is something else. I've been reading reviews, to see if I could come across just 1 negative comment... Try as I may, I can not find a single negative thing, being said about these boots. The more I dig into these boots (Nicks), the more impressed I become
This was just a pleasure to watch. Hats off to the fine craftsmen and women of Nick's. I want a pair even though I'm a nurse!😊
настоящий мастер своего дела спасибо за видео очень познавательно удачи тебе и здоровья
Fantastic job Nicks. How nice to see, in this world where the craftsman will be discovered, to see these handmade masterpieces still being made. Still many congratulations!!!
I never new so much work went into making a pair of boots! You guys are doing a great job 👏 and you work so hard!
These arnt your regular Kodiak boots for sue
Oh boy! After seen this I'll never complain again about how expensive is to restore shoes... That's a lot of work a well done one!
Salak bu normalde bu kadar emek yok bu işi zorlaştırıyor
I have the impression, that more than 90% are new.
it does say total rebuild
Me too
@@anthonybanda8192 rebuild these beast
.
I have the impression that you’re 90% stupid!
Great to see the skill and techniques but is this cost effective over buying a new pair? I'd love to know.
$5-800 for a new pair..... @$2-300 to repair and resole. The bonus behind having a pair of high end boots rebuilt is the lack of break in.
@@lukelafave5300 thanks for letting me know 👍
This video was made to show people he can repair the shoes same and good as orgininal. Sure he not make money from the repaired shoes above. 😅😅😅
@@AJMZ3104 that wasn't the suggestion. It is finding out whether a full repair is cost effective over a new pair.
@@Purewalite High end brand like Red Wing worth it to repair or refurbish especially for vintage or special models.
What a transformation!!!! It takes an artist not just a tradesman.
So much more comfortable than new boots
It would seem that these shoes have a place in the trash can .... but a miracle happened, these shoes fell into the hands of a shoe wizard ..... you very competently and professionally revived these shoes to life, giving them a second chance, thanks for the video !!!
2" heal ona pair of workboots that have had 90% replaced.. if you replaced everything on a yard brush except the handle would it be the same brush.. would be econimical to do this ? i dont see how.
Good point, I was thinking sentimental value. Like his late fathers old pair of boots found in the yard
This.
I don’t get it
The rebuild is 200-250 and the customer practically gets a brand new boot with a broken in upper.
I always enjoy watching videos like this. It’s amazing how much work and skill goes into a pair of Nicks.
Craftsmanship at it's finest!
I actually liked the looks of the boots with the natural colored heel stack and midsoles.
Wow, the tools and effort required to dissasemble that boot speaks to just how well these boots are made. Consider me a fan and impressed.

I worked in a heel bar uk in the 60s ,shoes had chewing gum ,shite ,mud, oil, grease, etc on them, Wanted shoes done WUW while you wait service, Many customers asked, can you just clean them? When you say a tin of polish about 50 pence them days.brush 75 pence. Answer was no ,leave them ok. I still look at peoples shoe heels,if they are worn down badly, women too, they usually are scruffy gits,Lol.
I am impressed! The torn toe made these look un repairable a few minutes later, wow!
Incredible! What craftsmanship! What craftsman! Thought I wanted to do that when I was in high school. Went a different route. About to retire now. Sadly, too old and weak to start learning now. Strong hands to do that. Thanks for giving us a glimpse.
What different route did you go? What did you do? Just curious.
Great work, but I'm wondering why you guys didn't clean them first. The uppers were still dirty after all that work.
They weren't dirty at the end. They just had not been dyed and that was probably at the customers request.
Yeah you would think they would clean and oil the upper before sending them back. Ive seen a review of another rebuild and the upper looked dirty as well. I guess it's something they just don't do.
Love the craftsmanship guys! Really brought that boot back to life.

Wow ... what an awesome process. Loved the video, Thank you very much for sharing your skills.
Silly question here… I realize the benefits of a refurbishment…but in this instance shouldn’t you just replace the boot? I think it’s great for the full rebuild, but it’s literally a new boot that will need to be broken back in etc.
thought the same thing. i guess just the uppers are softened/broken in.
Same boot, all we did was replace the sole, midsole, welt, upper, laces, and boot
What does such a rebuild cost?
amazing I can't tell new from old. respect to nicks boots for salvaging 2% of the original boots. in fairness Nicks are a legendary USA made boot company..

Wasn’t called a restoration, it was called a rebuild.
@@jamesmilos9909 This was neither a restoration or a rebuild. If a wall is knocked down and you use the same stones to build it again, that's a "rebuild" If you use virtually all new stone and only put back the original coping stone, that's a new build. This doesn't detract from the skill shown here. My father was a cobbler.
