  • In this video I explain what the ADIRS is and show its importance regarding the Speed and Navigation Data.
    Tips and Instructions are only to be used for the Flight Simulator on your PC! It should go without saying that I am only flying a PC Simulator, not a real aircraft. My videos therefore are not intended as professional instruction! And my videos do not show SOP ( Standard Operating Procedure) of any distinct airline.
    Please leave a thumbs up if you liked the video. Cheers!

    At 10:10 you state that an IRU consists of a Laser Gyro. Actually that is not accurate as in a strapdown unit there are three Rring Laser Gyro. Each one is orientated to one of the aircraft axis, just like the accelerometers. Anyway great instructional video.

    • @Blackbox711
      @Blackbox711  7 лет назад +1

      +Giuseppe Fumuso ... Correct, you need 3 Ring Laser Gyros to be able to cover all 3 axis. I was keeping that somewhat general in the video, meaning that the Airbus does not have a mechanically spinning gyro. Thank you for pointing that out. If anyone is interested to find out exactly how a modern IRU works, there are some fantastic videos here on YT. Regards BB

    Is the A320 able to use GPS data in an emergency? I've been reading about EGNOS which is a SBAS and should provide accurate speed, altitude and postion.

    • @Blackbox711
      @Blackbox711  7 лет назад

      Well most of the A320 now have the BUSS (Back Up Speed Scale) which does use GPS Altitude data.The GPS Groundspeed Data can be seen in the MCDU. Same goes for postition. Regards

    Blacbox I’m not sure you still monitor the comments on these videos as they are a few years old but your info is great. I have a couple questions regarding the scenarios you posted here. In a situation where two adr’s are lost or two ir’s are lost - the autopilot disengages and you revert to alternate law. So you follow ecam procedure which directs you to use the switching panel to restore ca or fo’s adr or ir data using back up #3 adr or ir. Once you do that can the autopilot be re engaged ( or can it be re engaged before you do that ) or will you lose the autopilot for the rest of the flight? And have you lost the autopilot because you are now in alternate law? Or directly as a result of not having 2 adr’s or 2 ir’s operating? Also I found it very interesting that when you shut all 3 adr’s off- the acft automatically invoked the BUSS info and GPS altitude on the pfd whereas if you failed two adr’s that info did not populate. Why ? And isn’t it extremely improbable you’d lose all 3 adr’s or can you with a total loss of electrics.
    Sorry for all the questions. Hopefully you still monitor these comments.

      Hi. No, the Autopilots and AuroThrust are inoperative in that case. The failure of 2 or even all 3 ADR is very unlikely. However the BUSS system will only activate when no more ADR info is available.

      ATT switches are used when there is a fault in the IR unit but the Attitude Information still available.

      he is a pilot (on a320 famlily i guess) , so he has to know how this is working ^^
      And from his englisch speaking way i would say he is probably a LH pilot :D

    • @L30nLpTogether
      @L30nLpTogether 7 лет назад

      But for shure, he has to have a type rating on at least one kind of a Airbus. just noticed on his knowledge.

    Great video thanks, any one knows. " do we need to enter city pair in mcdu to align adiru in GPS equipped classic A320 aircraft?

    • @Blackbox711
      @Blackbox711  7 лет назад

      +E Learn ... in the real aircraft you do need to set a departure airport even with GPS available
