Die Mittellegi-Hütte

Der Bau der Mittellegi-Hütte 1924 gilt als Meilenstein der Geschichte des Bergführervereines Grindelwald. Auf dem Nordostgrat des Eigers auf 3355 m ü.M. zählt sie zu den exponiertesten Hütten der Welt. Episode 4 in der Telebärn Themenwoche "Hoch Hinaus"

I enjoyed a week in Grindelwald with a group of friends at the beginning of July, and looking up at The Eiger with binoculars was amazed to spot the hut up on the ridge. I hadn't realised that there was a hut there, and that evening we could see a light.
I have the greatest respect for anyone who has climbed up there, even once, but this clip has been a revelation. I couldn't have imagined how well equipped the hut is, I was expecting to see something far more basic.
While in Grindelwald I did enjoy visiting the museum including the display on the centenary of the first climb of the Mittellegi ridge. I think that the museum , and watching this clip, is as near as I will get to the hut!
