  • showing how I get the marbled effect on leather using thickened water and oil based dyes on vegetable tanned leather.
    immediately after pulling up the leather I do a thorough water rinse NO FRICTION OR IT WILL SMEAR!! just let the water run over the piece for a few minutes to get the majority of the starch off.
    Seal the dye thoroughly with Resolene and/or saddle lac. You will want a good acrylic to prevent it from bleeding.
    thanks for watching!

      You're most welcome! It's a very uncommon technique that I might be doing wrong but it still garners some cool results!

    Thanks for sharing--love the way this looks vs other marbling techniques--and seems more like hydro dip than other marbling methods--definitely going to try this!

    • @rogueapparatus6414

      It really is basically a hydro dip. Very similar to acrylic paint but the oils make the result totally unpredictable and unique!

      It's a fun project. The results will differ with different thickness of water as well as different colors of dye will react very differently on the water

      What are you using to thicken the water?

    • @rogueapparatus6414
      @rogueapparatus6414  11 месяцев назад +1

      @@kcg3927 tapioca starch. And I try to usually only make it like a little thicker than sweet tea

    Spends 20 bucks on jacquard carrageenan and all the alpha6 acrylic paint not knowing I could've did this and use the pro dye I have gallons of.

    Sorry to bother you, I'm new to leather, can you tell me what color you're using and what else can I use instead of tapioca starch? Thanks a lot

      I hear carrigeenan works. I've not tried it though. The colors shown are black and red Fiebings ProDye

    Would gelatin work too?

    • @rogueapparatus6414
      @rogueapparatus6414  5 месяцев назад

      Possibly, but I don't know for sure. Only one way to find out!
      Starches tend to be the preferred choice. I would imagine gelatin might be hard to wash off. Buuut maybe not?

    Why not use the oil dye on just water for good separation?

    • @rogueapparatus6414
      @rogueapparatus6414  10 месяцев назад

      You can, it behaves different. I like a slower bleed with thickened water

    are you turkish??

    • @rogueapparatus6414
      @rogueapparatus6414  Месяц назад

      Negative, but this technique was used by the Turks to make textiles and panels for book covers for centuries. I just modified it a little for leather
