The one with the rubber band and the twists is gonna mess up your roots and give you split ends.Any braids in general is best to do with your natural hair because if you keep using extensions every-time you braid your hair it will make your hair thin and cause split ends

I personally think that you don’t have to be black to wear protective styling. Protective styling is for protection of damaged hair, hair that’s falling out, hair that can’t be washed everyday etc. you need to wear protective styles that are suitable for your hair tho. For example you can’t wear braids with straight/thin hair cuz it’s gonna fall out. You can try twists or looser braids though. Don’t let people judge you just because you have a different skin colour/hair type

I learn alone to make braids a couple of years ago, mixed moms is white and Latina, father was black and Jamaican, sadly he and Mom did not have a very good relationship and he left after I was born, he died in 2016, and meet my grandma from his side in 2016 but we live very far away and don't have much contact, I learned to do braids to honor him and his culture, I can do twists, cornrows and box braids I been trying the whole quarantine to make them on myself but I have butt leng hair and pretty thin, extensions in my country are expensive and we can't afford them :)
