Oh this is wonderful its a love song. A Gypsy boy falls in love with Carmen. Just out side the walls of Seville in Spain. Her father tries to stop this romance from happening. He didn,t have any luck. Wonderful and James Galway and the piano player where wonderful. Sorry to be a bit cheeky but he is the best Flautist in the World.
O Mestre James Galway é um dos melhores flautistas que existe e o maior pra mim!!!! Simplemente maravilloso!!!! Gracias por este video Thanks for this beatifol music!!!
There are 2 people who were my insperation to pick up the flute and they were Sir James Galway and Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull. I quite enjoy watching his performace of The Flight of the Bumblebee, I'm still astounded at how he seems to be doing it all 1 in breath!
yes true a good instrument definitely does have its advantages but its really the player doing all the work. a beginner on a gold flute wouldn't be automatically superb. Galway on a beginner flute would sound very similar to what he sounds like in this video.
Turned in way too much, this adds unnecessary sharpness to the voice, you recognised it as clearness. Listen to some Paud, than you would know, how a flute sounds
His command of the lower register has always blown me away...........a true technician. Him and Rampal were the first to inspire me to study classically. Now there are sooo many great flute players blazing new trails.
Absolutely AWESOME!!!! He just does it so totally easily!!! I'm still trying to get to this level ... but will NEVER reach him..... he is just amazing !!! Love it!!Thanks for posting this!! It inspires me to keep trying.....Judy Braude
While this may not be the most amazing interpretation of the Carmen Fantasie, to say that Galway's technique, tone, and musicality fall anything short of superb is true, unabashed ignorance. To make these ridiculous contrasts with these other phenomenal flutists is completely absurd! Yes you are entitled to your opinions, but that does not give you the right to tear him down. He's already proven himself to the world, which is why he's revered internationally despite your ignorant comments.
Thank you, Deshaun. Most people criticizing his tone have no clue what kind of commitment to the flute is required to obtain a sound like that. His tone color and facility of the flute is on-par with Russian Ballet.
That's not a rose gold flute. It's a 20k gold flute made by Kanichi Nagahara of Boston. And it certainly didn't cost $1,000,000; divide that figure by 18 and you'd get the approximate price of the flute.
for his generation he was VG.there are many other known and unknown flute players better than him.he remains a master of romantic music but he cannot be heard of performing BACH.
I swear hear some elements of english horn in the low register. Not complaining, just an observation, and a very interesting color to enforce some of the power needed in some of those sections. Galway is one of my favorite flautists, even if he is the only one I listen to (brass player, what are you gonna do lol... )
We should remember that JG is probably passed his technical best (still no slouch!)...listen to the rest when they are 70! I do think he may have overpopularised a bit. I prefer to remember him live from the 70s....when he definitely brought the instrument to a stage whereon the younger can flourish. I might have a preference for Rampal on Baroque Classical repertoire or maybe Wm Bennett.
because no matter what you do in life, the divil gets you in the end. God is what keeps you here, its a perfect balance, forcing hope eternal as the only thing that keeps faith alive? OK?
You can see from this video James Galway's Jewish roots, in the way he davens (rocks back and forth) while reading his music. That comes from all of the years he spent in the synagogue davening while reading Torah. :oP
I used to detest gal way. As I become more educated through college I learn that he is a god. Pahud used to be my most favorite but through listening clearly I love both equally. They are both fine musicians not one better than the other. They have different aspects that are just unmatchable. They are both great. Gal way plays this like a boss. Don't disrespect him.
He plays loud because he blows directly into the mouth hole, which technically is not what is taught. Somehow he is able to maintain excellent control. The downside to his playing loud is the excessive amount to air used, which impacts his breathing in certain pieces (i.e.: Mozart Flute Harp Concerto 299). Also playing loud can be too harsh on the ear and gives too much away too soon (deminishing the climax of the piece).
He made the history of flute. Non one plays like him. His sound is particular and recognizable...Great, sir James.
BRILLIANT!! I love how they let us see the closeup of his fingers. I was always so blown away by his technique as well as his musicality
Chulo papá... es uno de mis ídolos... Grande James Galway! Dios lo bendiga!
Amén!
Sans doute le plus grand flûtiste ! Quelle merveille !

Good old Jimmy ...hard to beat...long may he enjoy his music!
While Sir James's playing is surely nothing short of spectacular, that suit is criminal.
😂👍🏽

It's gorgeous..
I respect James Galway.
He has no equal.
すばらしい!!!
His runs were perfect. Such a beautiful piece.
James Galway realmente é D + !!!!!
His command of the lower register has always blown me away...........a true technician. Him and Rampal were the first to inspire me to study classically. Now there are sooo many great flute players blazing new trails.
+Foto Favoloso Yes Jimmy was the business....you cannot beat at least some classical training ...play what you want thereafter..
What a graceful sound with flexible hands! TOTALLY AMAZING.
I hear oboe, violin, clarinet AND flute!! Excellent pianist. Such naturalness and flowing sounds of Galway,he's really enjoying it!
Absolutely AWESOME!!!! He just does it so totally easily!!! I'm still trying to get to this level ... but will NEVER reach him..... he is just amazing !!! Love it!!Thanks for posting this!! It inspires me to keep trying.....Judy Braude
Awesome : ) u a the best
FANTASTIC!
DAMN!!! at like 7:30 he's sooo well together with the accompanist!!!! woooow
My goodness!!! Es un bestia!!!
I know Galway and Phillip Moll have a compilation called the "James Galway Flute Collection" that has the piano accompaniment in it. :)
Inégalable !
I have never heard Ian Anderson play. I will look for him on You Tube. What about Emmanuel Pahud? I think he is amazing too.
Brilliant. He has earned his reputation as a great player.
The amazing Sir James, love him and his music so much, which is so touching and enjoyable.
dios quede alucinada
El mejor.
ugh he makes it look so easy too!
and I absoloutly LOVE his music
._.
His lower octave is insane.
The vibrato is so wide.
Good^^
How is it even possible to play that good? *-*
ikr i play flute too but me compared to him is like this: ME---->. HIM----->O
haha lol thx :)
first knock that sailors flute out of your mouth. God forgive me.
Svenja Ollenburg
Celibacy.

THANK YOU!! He's such a kind and humble person. Very funny as well. Had the pleasure of seeing him several times and actually talking with him. ❤
My list of the living flute masters: Galway, Pahud, Robison, Bezaly, Beynon, Stinton

I can not find any word......
Amazing,unbeliavable,wonderful......

Good♥
At 9:55 what makes this amazing different sound? is it called harmonics ?
Maayan Lifshitz no, he just tounged it 😀
for his generation he was VG.there are many other known and unknown flute players better than him.he remains a master of romantic music but he cannot be heard of performing BACH.
Well very few performers concentrate on the complete repertoire.
Try listening to Emma Resmini, she might not be just as good jet but I think she will be in the future :)

D: I want his flute!

I just got this piece from my teacher.... for when I'm in the mood for challenge she says.... :p. I don't know if I can ever play it.
One of the best player :P
Every musician has his half hour, as I say
Wow wow wow
yes they do whether or not they show it
most amazing flautist...ever. so inspiring and yet completely depressing :)
Awesome! Are these Sir. James' variations?
I'm a flute player and this is so beautiful! Such fabulous tone and technique! But not the best interpretation of Carmen I must say....
WOW why did I choose clarinet!!!
Because glissando, rhapsody in blue, squidward, no vibrato, a rich tone.
because no matter what you do in life, the divil gets you in the end. God is what keeps you here, its a perfect balance, forcing hope eternal as the only thing that keeps faith alive? OK?
Arthur Karapetyan i still prefere clarinet tho 🙃
Arthur Karapetyan Rhapsody in Blue
Because of Clair de lune. Speaking from a flute player perspective it never sound as rich as a clarinet does
He is my rolemodel

Frankie Garcia well said
Yeah! 👊🏻
👏👏👏👏
@Ohflautistpleaze I would like to hear you play
Who is the pianist please?
does anyone knows where i can find the piano part???
He plays loud because he blows directly into the mouth hole, which technically is not what is taught. Somehow he is able to maintain excellent control. The comments on this video are outrageous. everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Where can I get this music??? >.
I bought a copy at my local music store
Was she a little behind tempo, on purpose?
he is the best !!!
What is the whole name of this song?
Fantaisie Brilliante sur Carmen, arranged by F Borne on music composed by Bizet
@r0ll0ut thank you :)
Surprising..He didn't lift up his left index when playing those series of minor thirds going down A F sharp. E flat.
I would be happy if I could achieve half of what he does in 30 years hahaha!!!
Yep
2:38 *O*
the grandfather of flute :O
low ange of flute = eargasmic!
correction: gypsy girl carmen... the young boy don juan(?) falls in love with the gypsy girl carmen... or thats what i heard...
and.. SIR GALLAWAY, THE PURE
@Nessjes I can agree that he doesn't have the most amazing sound, but his compositions are musical ability in general are exceptional.
