    I literally gasped out loud when you dunked your purse!!! I too did not know I could do that! This coming from a girl who used to bring her box fans outside and spray them down with the water hose! I let them bake in the sun for an entire day and then bring them back inside and plug them in! My dad used to do the same only he would blow out the engine with an air compressor!
    I’m dunkin’ my purses girl! Thanks!!

      I also own 4 coach court bags, while this technique may work for her, I myself have used saddle soap an a wash cloth dipped in very warm water, that was rung out very well. An leather cleansing wet wipes,all bought from target. Also alcohol free baby wipes, work too. Watch many other RUclips videos,on how others clean an condition there leather bags, to make a better informed decision, good luck.

      Hey dolly! Washing in water deep cleans the bag and helps get out creases and smells. Also stuffing while drying helps the bag mold into it’s original shape if it’s been squished while storing/from previous owner. It basically is like a restart for it. Check out purseforum coach rehab and rescue they do this type of cleaning a lot!

    Thanks so much Desiree. Wondering if a vintage black Coach messenger with nubuck interior is safe to submerge as well? The exterior is too sticky from so much conditioner. Also, I have about 4 our 5 Style 10328 Coach leather purses that have oxidized around the brass. Could you let me know how to clean this once and for all. Is there any way to clean or lighten the dark handling patina on the bottom or leather corners? There are methods out there that nearly ruined one. Subbed, liked, shared and rang the bell.

    • @DesireeStamat
      @DesireeStamat  5 лет назад

      What is the style number for your messenger? The vintage unlined bags do well with the dunking the newer lined bags, not so much. 10328 an anniversary bag it's notorious for oxidation on the brass. If I remember correctly they recalled some of those bags but people in humid States have issues. Eventually if I can get ahold of a 35th anniversary bag that has issues, I'll do a video. I own the 10328 in pond. 🥰 And a few others (but minimal brass issues.)

      @@DesireeStamat Black Willis Station Bag.No. 552-2947. Just today I cleaned with Saddle Soap and then a light conditioner (Kiwi Leather Lotion). If you look on eBay and do Advanced Search by Seller at top right corner-- cowboy3023, there's more leather bags that are pricey but that's because they're in great condition. Have a Parchment Hippie 10328 on sale--no verdigris at all but the front corner and bottom corner has some color wear. Almost tempted to use a little boot polish to spiffy it up.
      Have several 65th Anniv. Just not all Listed. You can see the Walnut Whiskey Brown 10328 2-pocket satchel that wiped me out. Has a lot of patina and took me days to clean out the verdigris--every rivet, every bit of brass hardware. I'm very meticulous, however, the verdigris GROWS it seems.
      I don't know what else to do. Take care of my disabled husband so sell on eBay. Have probably four more of the 10328 but not all have the verdigris. What a job!
      Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
      You are a God-send. Patricia

    • @DesireeStamat
      @DesireeStamat  4 года назад +1

      I have. It really depends on the color of the lining, the color of the bag and the leather. Some colors and leather will bleed more or release dye causing the liner to look dingy and dull after.

      Desiree Stamat thank you for the quick response! I thrifted a vintage Willis Coach bag and it has some stains, seem to be water, I tried the saddle soap this morning and the stains are still there 🤔 so I stopped, I’m scared of ruining it.

    • @DesireeStamat
      @DesireeStamat  5 лет назад +1

      Hmm. Without seeing the bag I can't advise for sure. Some stains may not come out completely especially with the lighter colors, but they can be improved with a good washing. Plus, it will be clean. Look into leather honey or other finishing condioners that darken slightly. This may help even out the color.
      The Purse Forum website has a rehab and refurbish thread in thier Coach section you can post photos to and get feedback and advice. Most of us there dunk our unlined coach as a first choice and then go from there.

    Great video! I think a step or two were not shown in the video so I’m slightly confused. How was the bag dried, and for how long? Did you condition the bag before polishing the brass, or is that just how the bag looked after washing it? It looked nice and brown before you started polishing the brass. It’s not clear whether or not you applied some leather conditioning before polishing the brass. It seemed to me that you conditioned the bag once, after you had polished the brass. Was that the case? Thank you!

    • @DesireeStamat
      @DesireeStamat  5 лет назад +3

      I let the bag air dry with towels for about two days and start conditioning when it is mostly dry. I condition several times throughout the process of restoration. Leather CPR in the purple bottle is what I use.

    I have a terrible problem, my basement was flooded for a week before I knew because I only go down there about once a week for laundry. There was a large box with clothes and two Coach classic leather bags. I've washed them, the one I'm working on now, alot of that stinky mold came off but it still smells like mildew if you put your nose to it but doesn't smell the room up anymore. I'm desperate to save it. It's extremely sentimental and special. I'll try anything and I'm not gonna give up on it, do you have any suggestions?
