      i just got one today for 3.99 too!!! it’s got wear and tear mostly on the seams. did not expect to spend 40$ on cleaners though!! looking for more affordable cleaners that are comparable in quality but slightly less expensive. 25$ budget for a coach purse, here 🤣🤓

    I have a vintage coach court bag that I bought at a yard sale for $1.00 about a year ago, and it became my favorite bag. It goes with everything, it's so easy to organize, and it's not to small, but not big enough to over fill and make too heavy. A few of my friends make fun of it because it's so beat up looking. My Mom asked me "who's Grandma did you mug?" the first time she saw me carrying it.

    I bought a really beat up Dooney and Burke bag for a steal to basically use as a test case. Thanks for the thorough video! I always see great Coach bags that are just majorly scuffed up and I've been too unsure of my own skills to buy them and try to help bring them back to life.

    One of my hobbies used to be finding vintage Coach in ivory and white (usually filthy but structurally perfect. & always super inexpendive) and dye/rehab/flip them. My favorite transformation was a white Doctor bag from the 80s that I did in the early 2000''s My technique for eaning and conditioning was similar to yours. Wet vintage Coach can get pretty stinky though! It is a unique odor, that is for sure. I still do this but no longer flip them. My latest were a Cashin crescent bag (ivory now a purpley-beet shade) and a lunchpail (white to a bluish- lavender). Coach from the 60s-90s will always be my favorite die to the quality of the craftsmanship. My small non-rehab collection is primarily Bonnie Cashin styles and a few classic bags from the 80s.

      It's because the towel gives it a mildew smell. I do this same trick only after rinsing the bag I reshape with a towel and partially blow dry with cool air via blow blowdryer, then I take the towel out and sit the bag outside if nice to continue to dry or if in a hurry i will use a bit of heat switching from heat to cool heat until completely dry. Then I rub mink oil into the bag with my hands because the warmth from my hands help melt the oil into the leather. Then I buff buff buff. Comes out like new every time with absolutely no smells. I usually clean all the brass with Brasso before soaking the bag in case I get any of the Brasso on the leather.

      @tamara782 3 года назад +3

      Yep same it’s generally not a good idea to do that. Also dish soap can be very drying to the leather in the same way it can dry out your hands. Anyone thinking of doing this there’s Lots of foaming shampoos and conditioners for leather available online! you just work with a brush and wipe down with a cloth. Plus turning a structured hand bag inside out like that can pop stitches as it may need force. Take you’re time and be patient with getting the corners from inside and you’ll get the same clean results

    I just love Vintage Coach leather bags and the Vintage Styles alltogether. I use the very same process you do with the submarge into lukewarm water with Dawn dishliquit or I use one with a Degreaser to help with cleaning the inner lining.
    ----- Walmert USA have a knock-off of " MEANGREEN" a degreaser cleaner for Only $0.98 cents and boy! does that thing works wonders on cleaning the Fabric and leather Coach bags. I Cleaned like over 5 Coach bags with Leather and Fabric/ Canvas in Submerge lukewarm water. I used a little of the degreaser solution and my hands to work the fabric with a Horse hair brush or toothbrush for hard areas inside. A Denture Toothbrush is really good too for shoes etc. Leather bags Ok , but Suede is a little different with this process because Suede is a bit more raw and needs to be process differently with water cleaning. I let them Air dry on a pants hanger for 4 days rotating them as needed. If you are using pants hanger put something between the part you are attaching to hold the bag or it will cause indentation on the leather. Hang Upside down is best so the Water drains away from the rest of the bag.
    ---- If you are in Canada the " MEANGREEN" is located at the Canadian Tire Stores.

    • @thelucyspace
      @thelucyspace  4 года назад +1

      Jennifer Cho thanks for watching! Nope, I don’t use anything for the unlined leather inside the bag. It doesn’t flatten at all for the bags I’ve cleaned, it looks exactly the same. I have purchased some vintage Coach that have been cleaned (probably professionally) and the inside does not look like suede anymore so I know what you’re talking about. But just cleaning at home like how I’ve shown, the inside suede is fine! :) let me know what other videos you’d like to see!

    I wouldn’t recommend anything that’s coconut oil or mink because they go bad and the last thing you want is for a rotten bag.

    As an "average" treatment this video is OK, but DEPENDS ON THE BAG CONDITION, if you treat some the same vigorous way is done here you will damage it, in some vintage the stitching is not as solid, some have problems with the piping, do this type of cleaning depending on how solid the bag is. Also.... if you let a bag dry with the flap over the handle, it will make indentations... WATCH OUT FOR GENERIC ADVICE!

    Thanks for the tips. As a suggestion, this video would be much shorter if you could be more succint and to the point.

    There is absolutely no reason to immerse your bag in water. Nor to leave it soaking. You are teaching your viewers to destroy their bags. A good cleaning with a suede brush and wipe down with a damp cloth is all you really need. A good leather conditioner is all you need. How do you heal leather when it is animal skin? Over the years the leather hardens and cracks. The beauty of the leather and the softness is gone. Then I find them in thrift shops as discarded junk.
    Very sad. Just my opinion.

      I appreciate an uncomplicated, educated commentary from someone more experienced than I am. I thoroughly enjoyed this explanation & its effectiveness was only possible for MY comprehension by her use of language. I was able to both see & hear her angle/theory/explanation of her technique for cleaning vintage Coach leather bags...
      And, yes - many videos I do back out due to empty verbose. If I don't like it, I just leave it. No need for empty criticism...
      Thank you for this educational video!

    Stop talking so much with chit-chat that has nothing to do with cleaning the bag. My RUclips pet peeve: people who cannot stop talking.
