I've been using Obsidian for a few years now, I absolutely love it. I used it to keep track of everything for school, used it to plan out all of the choices in a visual novel and create a mind map of that, have used it for work, journaling, and for planning and keeping track of my D&D campaign. I honestly can't stand using other note taking apps now, especially when they don't have any markdown formatting. Everything about Obsidian is just so cool and I love seeing it improve. (Also the plugins for obsidian are amazing)
If I want already a diehard obsidian fan (it has literally changed my life) you would have had me at "P'tooooo" which might have been the cousin of Ptah.
I set my homepage in my main Obsidian vault to have a bright callout at the top of it that reminds me to just get ideas down and worry about it later. It honestly has helped a ton to remind me that even just dumping out thoughts is a good first step!
3:42 Also, I literally just realized I could move my obsidian vault to a file on my home PC and set it up with samba fileshare, then use tailscale to access the local network from my mobile devices
I've been wanting to try obsidian for quite a while now, and this video was enough to set me off getting my ancient laptop functional enough to run it and get my first vault started. Please do make more obsidian videos.
I am not in a place in my life where I can use obsidian efficiently. I hope you are proud in the fact that this entire video as informative as it was, has made me confront the fact that I have been using Google keep for My train of thoughts for almost a decade now. I recently started using a widget to make it more efficient to make a Google keep note 😂😂 I am a mobile girly in a mobile world
ive been using Obsidian for a few years now for all my DnD notes. I keep them all in the same vault, which has its problems, but using links i can connect things from across campaigns and it creates a great graph view
Me: "Huh... interesting..." Endeavorance: "Also this had add-ons for TTRPGs..." Me: "GIVE ME NOW" Endeavorance: "But that's for another video..." Me: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
If you haven’t already I highly recommend using canvases for laying out dungeons with a document for each room and arrows showing the pathways, then keeping notes about the dungeon in a copy of the canvas when you play!
you know how you've heard a good idea before but you just didn't hear it in the right way or from the right voice? You did that for me here. Definitely going to try this out and see if I can replace what notion wants to charge annually for software.
This... this is awesome. You've genuinely given me something awesome for me to explore. I have wanted something like this for ages! Is there a way for this software to do links to images that are also on your computer or phone?
It sounds like a great app/programme but ive always taken notes in google drive/docs, even when people around me loved notion. I also love the idea of it but i never switched as it was to overwhelming for me. It just gives me so much anxiety and tbh some adhd overwhelm to switch. I would still want to have all my stuff that is in my pretty organised drive that took actual years to build. Does any one know if there is an easy way to switch over? 😅😅
Until today (okay yesterday i left it in my tabs for an entire day) I did not know what obsidian was but now I do and while I have no realistic use case for it right now I also want to use it right now, thank you
Interesting. I keep hearing about Obsidian, but always wrote it off as an over-rated cult following (which Notion most _definitely_ is). But I've been looking for simple and local software for writing my scripts. MS Word is naturally what I've been using for years, but it's always been too feature-heavy. WordPad is simple enough, but doesn't obey dark mode. NotePad obeys dark mode, but is too simple. You've convinced me to experiment with Obsidian. Sounds super customizable and I like that.
Ya know, I have honestly been struggling with all of my notes I constantly take and always get distracted as to why I even made the note to begin with, just gave it an install, let's get sorted out!
as a Chromebook user, this having a mobile app brings me a great deal of joy. im always looking for good notes apps with markdown, so this is an A+ from me edit: it works on my Chromebook, absolute S rank.
@@endeavorance I had to come back here and say thanks - thanks for a new obsession - thanks for helping me find an app that finally allows me to make sense of all the crap - I LOVE THIS APP!!!
My obsidian has been collecting dust for a while now lol. i need to start taking notes again. Endeavorance, i would love to see your workflow in obsidian, if youre up for that Edit: definitely pay for obsidian's app sync option. IMO, they deserve it. But if you don't syncthing works wonders and you can use it to sync other folders across devices too!
Definitely do more on Obsidian! I've heard you talk about it in tiktoks and vids in the past, and I've heard a couple friends mention it before. Always thought it sounded cool, but my ADHD never gave it the chance to learn more and be excited about it! I am *soooo* interested in it, I am gonna start switching from OneNote like immediately! But I will definitely need another video from you on more Obsidian cool shtuff to reinvigorate/remind me in like... 2 weeks? A month? Whenever you get to it. I look forward to being reminded to finish moving my notes to Obsidian by watching another one of your awesome and fun videos! Much love ❤💚🤍🖤
How does this compare to a hosted wiki that's been altered for added security? I'm a wolrdbuilder too (fiction, not gaming), so I feel like your needs on this align with mine a bit. This reminds me of Scrivener, but with a greater amount of device agnosticism. If you've ever tried Scrivener on ios... holy shit it's not a fun experience.
does obsidian have any of those annoying AI popups notion has? ive been a notion user by the fact that its free and the structure of linking to other pages but im sick of seeing the AI crap and blurry feelings of privacy :0
Absolutely not. Obsidian does not have any built-in AI features. There's community-written plugins to connect to AI services but they require you choosing to add those to your Obsidian vault, and are not official plugins. Obsidian doesn't try to upsell you really ever, which is rad.

God, This should be an ad for them. I wish I could just send this to all my friends and they'd convert with me cause this is soooo useful
Every DM I know uses Obsidian! Definitely considering using it when I have more time to get serious about campaign writing
Okay, you sold me. Better than my 80 google docs that say "Name ideas" "Story titles" "Writing Prompts"
"Topple unjust hierarchies" omg XD
I see that "My favorite Viewers" file. I better be on there, Dev! /j lmao
I'm super excited to see the other videos you make about Obsidian!
I've never heard of this, but am definitely intrigued. Enough to get past executive dysfunction? We'll see.

So glad to see Obsidian support! I've been using it for years for my homebrew dnd campaign
Obsidian + Anytype = the best combo for notes :)
Also great video!
Thank you!
I clicked on this video but you converted me to an obsidian user years ago

The way I wish I had learned about this before I graduated. I will be using it so much now either way but it would have been a life saver.
Use it to keep all my D&D notes organized, being able to link different notes, images, and videos together is so nice.

Me watching this while preping a Bible Study using obsidian.
Fairly certain there’s a bible reference community plugin somewhere, if you’re not already using it!

It's definitely got a lot of hype behind it, but it isn't unwarranted! It is flexible and respects you as a user, which is commendable.
Oh. My. Lord. This will probably be my notetaking app until the day I die... So I guess I'm gonna use it forever!!

Nice! I have a “Drafts” folder that works like an inbox. New notes are made there, and either I put them somewhere else eventually or I delete
I'm going to share this with my D&D friends, thank you!
