- For a change of pace, here’s the very first rhythm n’ blues “duet” on the channel. Johnnie Richardson and Joe Rivers teamed up in 1956 in the Bronx, New York. This is their third release, which appeared on Chess Records in 1957. It rose to #8 on the pop charts and #3 on the R n’ B charts. It’s performed here at the great Burlington County concert.

My kind of music the best memories ❤
I remember seeing Johnny and Joe in 1957 at the Alan Freed Rock n Roll show at the Paramount Theatre.
Very beautiful
This man can still sing. Very impressive
Thanks, Dave
The best back then if only we can go back in time Fabulous song..
There’s nothing like this kind of music in nowadays. If only it was still the same.
Johnnie & Joe are pure class & full of Talent! we were Blessed with this music back in my teenage years.
Beautiful Song in so many ways, a wonderful slow blues and Rock Rhythm which is the best to slow dance to, sure miss these doo wop and rock times.
Still remember this song in 1957, I was 9.

Great harmonies. So young. So beautiful. "You're mine. You're mine. You're mine --- And he's mine. ---- Need I say more?"
His voice sounds great
I agree. Thanks. They will be back on Monday morning.
One of many of their hits the great Johnnie and Joe play this on my internet radio show Classic Soul and The Doowoop Hour me The Masterblaster.
WMBS in Uniontown PA had a show called High School Hop.Leon Sykes was the DJ. It would come on at 8:15. The boys and girls would call in with their requests.l This song received a lot of requeests.
awesome voice 25 years on from the original release
La Bamba brought me here
Missing Rex Garvin throwing in some "waits for me , waits for me !!!! At the end of the bridge !!!.............. Erik
“A girl waits for me” changed to “my love waits for me”
Does anyone know if this is the original Johnnie & Joe? I know the woman was replaced once or twice over the years even though they kept the same name.
Joe rivers is in this video :)
They are both originals. Johnnie Louise Richardson was the daughter of the owner of J&S Records "Zell" Sanders. Johnnie died of a stroke in 1988 and was replaced but they kept the name. They were under contract to J&S but their hits were usually released on Chess Records. Johnnie also sang with The Jaynetts' touring group.
Yes the original, however Jonnie ( the woman) died 3 years later.
Great information, thank you.
I love this song, but I don't understand why she's pointing at people and saying, "You're mine."
They were loving fans & Joe love them
wow this was a great video. I used to work with Joe Rivers in the Bronx not only did he have a terrific voice he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.
What did he do?
He ran the cafeteria at the phone company where I worked in 1980's in the Bronx @@MJP160
