I never get tired to watch Kelly surfing and that will be until his last breath which will be probably after me. I'm 42 but i looks way older than him. I'm sure he will still get barreled in 12 feet pipe at 80 years old ! He is the best athlete in the world hands down, his ability to mentally and physically be ready for all conditions, all year long, staying to stretchy , keep learning on many other domains outside of Surf, and most important stay humble, rarely claim (nose claim when it was a really good one...). Many focus on his body longevity but his ability to control his mind, produce dopamine to go surfing a mushy 2feet waves at 5am before getting his heat later in the afternoon.... That motivation and attitude is the most freaking thing about him in my eyes... The 🐐..... If chopes is massive and perfect this year he is gonna win it for sure 👊
Kelly, You were surfing so good in this video. That 360 turn you did in the beginning blew me away! I've had the pleasure of watching you at LA Conchita pier in Carpinteria. It always has a weird bump in it, but you made it look like J bay. So in my life, I've had the good fortune to watch you surf, and back in the 80's Watched M.R. surf 10 ft Honolua. What a treat. Thank you. Got to see the best 👌

this series just gets better each episode, love it, sl8r has always been one of my top heroes, and even more so after this series, what an inspiring and amazing human. And how about the fukn upside down forehand karate-like snap at around 8:17, and the big full rotation around 15:02.. Lol I've watched so many sl8 clips over the years and in the comps that he has influenced how I mind surf, when I see a wave and imagine what I'd do on it, it's basically just a video on replay of the goat lol (obviously it's a fantasy and I don't actually do the moves I imagine, but reach for the stars and ya might get to the moon..).. Crazy thing is how much better than everyone else Kelly is at waves of consequence, like pipe, chopes, cloudbreak (watch the 2012 Cloudy clips - ruclips.net/video/RFTOrFvnm8s/видео.html&ab_channel=100percentsurf the turns he was doing would still be 9+ point rides today, still unmatched today).. Put him out there in pumping consequential conditions against the worlds best and he is 30% better than the entire field (as one commentator - Peter Mel perhaps - stated during Slaters super dominant chopes victory in 2016, the win that included four 10 point rides...). If the tour was all heavy scary barrels Slater would be 25x champ.. I also reckon he gets underscored in the comps, consistently, over the past decade.. And has had terrible luck this year in the contests, seriously someone should pull the stats up, losing by less than 0.5 in almost every contest all year, Sl8 and Chianca were cursed this year.. Hopefully Slater wins Chopes and it's 8-10ft and insanity, to start 2022 with the pipe win and end with chopes win would be epic. How about they change the final 5 day to cloudbreak; in my opinion the final day should be decided in a more intense wave, not a playful HP wave that any old punter can do a good hack on.. He could have easily been 13x champ also.. Due to Mick being overscored (in my opinion) in 2013 at Pipe - causing Slater to lose by one heat, and in 2012 Slater skipped Brasil, then lost by one heat to Parko at Pipe, so even a last in Brasil would have sealed the world title easily over Parko that year. Even people in my home town around Sl8rs age are all amped and inspired to maintain their surfing level and keep peaking at late 40's and 50's. Hope Slate wins pipe etc at 55, even 60, it's doable. I met Kelly in Oahu at Turtle Bay with Rob Machado in 2015-16 winter, real nice guy, didn't chat about surfing, just discussed a few world problems for about 20minutes, real nice of him to give fans his time like that
The fact that kelly wasn’t involved in Olympic surfing team for USA is a disgrace and personally think JJF fucked him up on purpose coming back to early from his knee injury just so kelly couldn’t compete in Olympics JJ has plenty of time to do the Olympics kelly doesn’t or even should be on the coaching team he is the best competive surfer in the world and probably ever why would you not use him it’s ridiculous
Nobody can know what will happen in the future. Even for JJ. Look at him now....can't stay at the top of the rankings. I don't blame him for wanting to surf the Olympics if he felt like he could. There could easily not be a next time for him either. Simple fact is Kelly didn't do enough to qualify. It's on him. And he'd probably be the first to tell you that.

So many people need to take in that opinion by Kelly at the end- how surfing can be an impetus for peace as opposed to just being a ‘cool’ ie self-centred practice. So many tourists out here in Bali need to check themselves because their attitude and character is wrong. For instance, don’t drop in deliberately and be a kook, help someone if they’ve lost their board and are struggling, and dont deliberately aim for someone if they’ve cocked up heading back out to the lineup etc. just be cool 🤙

Growing up with the momentum generation and idolizing Slater and the crew since 93.. I can say that Slater is the greatest Athlete of any sport of all time.

Kelly needs to retire from the tour after this year and travel the world with cameras following him. we'd all watch Vlog style would be awesome but high quality docu series like these too.
It was so great the waves showed up for the Olympics. Most of you probably don't realize the odds of that region getting those waves at that time of the year. It ended up being a great comp.
