one of the best reviews ever on youtube. Most reviewers talk like they are desperate to make you buy the stuff so that they get paid. Anyway a couple of things i want clarification on. 1. what is the color print quality on photo paper. 2. Does this print on post card or envelope and how do I set that up? 3. without using a cable can i scan and upload to my android phone? One point you have forgotten to mention is that this sends the printout away from the person unlike other inkjet printers.

The impression of people I introduced the printing on photo paper was excellent, they all noticed a big difference compared to normal paper. 2. Yes, you can modify the size of the paper / envelop / postcard in the drawer / feeder + the software that comes with it, and then print what you wish to print. 3. I usually print directly to my computer, but from what I recall it is supposed to do that with smartphones as well, since there are apps and NFC chip in the printer. What I meant was the output tray in most inkjet printers are directed towards the user that is printouts come towards you. But in this model the output tray and printout are directed away from the user.

Creating such a video demands some effort and thinking forward how to assemble everything so it will tell a clear story, and yet I dont want this to be boring and tiring. There is this issue that something might seem obvious to one person is not so relevant for another person (especially when the videos goes global, with the cultures difference...). In this video review I focused on specific things, and I compensate about what is missing from the video review by: 1. Answering for comments to this video. 2. If needed (and I get the time) I make a followup video review - I think this is the type of item that can use a follow up video, since I always learn something new about it. 3. There are the social networks fan pages and accounts that I publish there additional information, so I can post some photos (check the links below). 4. Thank You. I appreciate your help on how and where to put envelopes for printing. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 does NOT have the 'How To Video' on our company printer so I had to resort to RUclips.com to see if any HELP videos were out there to help since NO "How To" booklets were enclosed in the package box of the printer. Very disappointed on the envelope printing since our old printer allowed you to place the envelope on the additional top tray (it had a separate easy insert top tray that flapped over the paper tray) without having to PULL the tray out completely like this OfcJetPro 8720 printer does. Usually we only have to print (1) envelope at a time for various needs and to have to remove the WHOLE TRAY, Remove the Paper, then place (1) envelope to print an address. It doesn't save any printing steps as stated on the advertisement. >:-/ This is a Medium Size Company Use Printer and it did NOT help our office save steps. Don't recommend for printing 3-5 simple envelopes in a day. However, if it wasn't for YOUR Video, we'd STILL be trying to figure out where & how to do this, so Again, THANK YOU!!

My older HP 8720 won't accept new HP cartridges. Old Generation Error message. No problem!! I got Smart Ink Cartridges, all 4 for $40 and they work great. Not $40 a piece. Thanks Smart Ink!!!!!!

If one color runs out, does the printer still print? Also, do you just replace that one color cartridge or all of them? Unbelievable how some printers force you to replace all cartridges even if only one is needed. Mindboggling, in fact. Thanks.

Great video on how to set up the 8720. My question is: Is there a Photo Tray that comes with the unit that I can't find, or do I have to order another tray? On a typical day, I go back and forth printing 8.5x11 and 4x6 photos. It would be a hassle to change trays. Thank you

Thank you for your quick response OVR Guy. That is good to know. I did what you said and the photo copying works great. I am just sad that I have to continuing reload one tray with either letter sized paper or photo paper. All the previous copy machines I had came with a photo tray installed and you didn't have to go back and forth reloading paper. If I had known this on the front end, I would have bought a different printer. Thank you very much

You can add a 2nd paper tray that will go at the bottom of the printer, it probably will cost you, I suggest you contact HP customer support in your area and ask them about that. I did see a paper tray, but it didn't look like one that would work in conjunction with the current tray... looked to me like you had to take one out and put the other in. Can't tell you how it's like using Laser printers, but I think both printers could do the job properly. so finally got my office jet 8720 yesterday evening. Have used it only for a few B&W prints. So far ok. Space is an issue for the machine and so is the noise it makes. On the other side silent printing decreases the speed of output. But that apart ADF and NFC are great. What i have liked till now is the design of the machine. contemporary yet still commands the look a home office printer should. Two things I got wrong initially were A. The cartridges fit in softly into the slots unlike my other HP printer where it sets in with a snap and the slots don't look pretty tough to handle much force so one should be careful there. B. The main scanner comes with a foam sheet as protection but I didn't know that it has to be removed even when using the ADF. So the first scan was terrible. Then I removed it and peace prevailed. There is protection stand that folds up and down while using the ADF so that if you leave the printer while its doing a job the documents dont fall down on the floor. Small but neat feature. By the way bro the printer here in India came with a USB cable for wired connection. Guess HP thinks India is still not comfortable with wireless printing. To use the mobile printing from android phone or tab you need to download the HP App from playstore. One thing I still haven't found out is how to turn duplex printing on and off in mobile printing. I agree with most of the things you wrote, while some of the things you mentioned might seem obvious to certain people (Like me in several occasions), which is why I am glad you did mention that in a follow up comment to the video review I made. I guess if the Duplex feature is not available at the moment via the app, you can bring it up to HP, and they can always release a new update to the app... Good way to get a job ;-) As for the cable... Take it as a complement, since I believe that in my area the sellers usually charge money for everything, so it only shows HP India are thoughtful... I see these options "reset 802.1 x security" and there is also "restore network settings" would any of these two be the one to reset the printer? (as you can tell i'm not much of a pro with this printer)

There's no relevancy between resetting the printer to the level of ink in the ink cartridges. You might need to align them once again, but that's all. Hi dear friend, Great question! I think this specific printer is an excellent product. Though I am trying to be objective as possible, I would have to admit I am used to HP printers, so for me they are very intuitive. I think this is a big device, so if someone needs a compact all-in-one-printer, you should get it as long as: 1. You have the space / "real-estate". 2. You really need a strong device for a small office or you get to print/scan/fax/copy a lot. As for the ink expenses: 1. This printer does live to the expectations when it comes to ink efficiency and cost per page. 2. Unfortunately, In the area I am currently at, the "instant ink" program is not available at the moment, so I cannot share with you my thoughts about it. I hope this answers all your questions. Currently I don't have it with me, cause I'm in a different location, but I would definitely recommend about this printer (though I usually try new models due to what I do...). Assuming you had a good experience with your old HP printer, I don't see any reason why not sticking with HP (some people had bad experience with HP, and hold a certain grudge on this brand - in this case I would suggest them switch to a different brand). Depends on how many copies you plan to copy with it, I guess several hundreds / thousands a month for a small business it's OK, for larger capacity I advise you to consider a different alternative. 2. I dont know because I didnt use this printer with a USB / Data cable at all. I set it to WIFI connection and all the computers I worked with it were connected by WIFI / Wireless connection, and it was very fast, no delay in 99.9% of the time. For this question I advise to consult with HP customer service. 3. I dont know what's your definition of "small business" and what is exactly the latest version of the 8720 (I am not sure there was any change in the device itself, this is a series of several printers 8710/8720/8730/8740) but I think that if I had a small business then I would strongly consider this all-in-one device because its a good brand, offers 3 years guarantee, not too noisy, attractive design, can cope well with large work capacity of thousands of printing / copy tasks per month, responds well and quickly if everything is set properly, easy to use and offers plenty of features. Hey again dear Waqas Muhammad ! So far I used only original HP ink cartridges, so it's hard for me to relate to refilling kits/non-official ink cartridges. I heard good and bad stories about non-official ink cartridges, so it's up to you to decide if its worth the try or not. If it was 5,000 printed pages I would say yes, but 5,000 copies sounds to me a lot - I think it will be able to cope with it, but I'm not sure for how long. My personal experience taught me that the all-in-one devices of this caliber are mostly work well as printers, and also a reasonable solution as scanners/copy machines for high capacity work. It's easy to plug the cable to the printer, and then it will work well - faster and more reliable in my opinion compared to a wireless connection. hi ! Thanks for your video but I recommand to you to hide the serial number. If not, we can, for exemple, we can use your serial number (if we have the same printer, the same PN but without warranty) for exchange it. HP use only the seral number for check if we have the rights but in the reception of the printer at the SAV, they check only the PN (beacause we can assosiate many printers in an only one SN (but they have in reallity different SN). does HP make a printer of the same series but capable of 13x19? i'm ditching epson because i've gone through a few that end up fatally clogging. i currently use a wf-1100 (best printer in the world btw), but they're very expensive and hard to come by due to their discontinuing a while back.. i need another one, so hoping HP would have been a cheaper alternative. the new epson printers clog because the filter inside the print head is "too fine" and traps pigments which results in a clog you can't flush or dissolve with chemicals.

But... since I am currently very busy in trying to save the world, I have to come up with a different solution.... so lets see... Assuming you placed the ink cartridges properly, I guess it's related to the definitions when you try to print from the computer, so try checking the setting in the printing preview screen first or go to the printer settings in the device manager. If still not working, I advise you to contact HP's customer service and make them justify the 3 years guarantee that you should get along with this printer ;-) Let me know you managed to sort this out. I received this 8720 yesterday as a replacement for an 8620. It sends the printed page out face down. Is that normal? I do not like that feature at all. Is there a way to change that? Also when it does this to a photo it is smearing the bottom. Probably due to ink not being all the way dry . Your video was great but never got to the printing steps..lol

You bought up very good questions - I want my videos to be short and fun to watch, and this specific printer offers so many features, so I understand that I wont be able to answer all the questions brought up by my beloved viewers in one video. I usually focus on the things that apply to me and the majority of the questions brought up in the past by other people. If there is something else that I missed or didnt explain well - I add the information to the description to the video, reply comments and in some cases even make a follow-up video review (If I get the chance...). As for the way it prints the page with it's face down - From what I learnt so far, this is how this specific printer works, I do recommend to play with the software and see if you can change the definitions to make it operate differently, as there are lots of ways to define the printer. I am not sure if it will work for you, but this is what I would do first. If that doesnt work or you prefer to jump straight to phase number two - give HP customer support a phone call, as they probably will be able to tell you if it's possible or not. The printer is not measuring on it's own the photo while or after you enable it - You need to define it, and it can be done by setting it up from the printer / software (my favorite way) / mobile app (which I didnt use much so far). Hey dear john paul! I really want to make it simple as possible but currently I'm not next to the printer, so it's a bit hard for me to explain. Basically when you plug a USB into it, you can control it via the printer itsel - either print from it supported files, or scan to it files. I advise to update the firmware to make sure you have the latest version, so it might be easier to work with. If things gets complicated, I advise to contact HP's customer service. Basically it seems the 8720 is more compact compared to the model you mentioned (everything is relative), it will take less space and probably there are differences in the costs and specs which you can see easily on HP's website by comparing both printers side by side. I did not get to review the printer you mentioned above, but if I recall correct, someone who commented on this video was interested in the 8720 and finally got the one you mentioned, so try to find this comment and write to him, maybe he will be able to give you more details about his experience so far with this printer. As for the 8720 - this is a more compact printer, but still a mean machine that does the job well for the small business. HP 953 ink? Everywhere I've seen, it says it takes HP 952. I can't even find HP 953 for sale anywhere. Could it be that the HP 953 are the test/break-in ink cartridges?

Are you by any chance in the UAE or UK? I did some research and it looks like the US version takes the 952, while HP UK says to use the 953. Hey again dear James Hall! When I reviewed this printer I was outside the USA. I guess the model number of the ink cartridges is the only difference, but there's a chance that it's not (the same as variance in electric currents, TV broadcasting methods etc.). The ink cartridges have a chip when you plug them to the printer, so I guess HP thought about it when they designed this printer. If it's worthy or not to find better deals for ink cartridges on the other side of the world...? well when it comes to HP, I always used original ink cartridges sold in my territory, and avoided different alternatives. Hi!I have an Officejet pro 8500a Plus that has just broken down and I'm looking for a good substitute for it. Does this printer take like 2-3 minutes to start and cleans the printheads like 10 times a day even if you don't use it much? It takes about 10-15 seconds to print the first page of the day or if it was in sleep mode?I never had any problems with HP, but with the 8500 I was fed up, instead of the printer working for me it seemed that I was the one working for it; printhead cleanings during document printings, checking processes every now and then... I really don't want to buy another printer like that, if they have solved the problems I will go for one of these, if they haven't I will try another brand.Thank you.
Hey dear friend! First of all my impression is that the 8720 is in a different league than the 8500 (but this is because I am not familiar with the 8500). Here is a link to the specs of this printer on HP's website: store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-officejet-pro-8720-all-in-one-printer According to this webpage: First page out (ready) black As fast as 9 sec First page out (ready) color As fast as 10 sec. I used a stoppage time to check how much time it takes this printer to turn on - less than 1 minuet (including connecting to the wireless network). Printing is very quick, and I am very far from the router, so it does response in seconds. This printer has 256MB of RAM memory and I guess it's processor is supposed to be better then older models. Most of the time this printer is in hibernation or sleep mode so unless I am using it, there are no annoying noises of cleaning the printheads. If you need a second opinion, I suggest you ask "Technology Tips" (a RUclips channel that is more than happy to answer about questions related to HP printers to the viewers of my channel - Tell him the OVR guy expects him to treat you like royalty!). Let me know what was your decision about the 8500... I guess the moment a printer that gets old starts to annoy it's owner, it should be exiled like the "Frozen" song ("LET IT GO"...). The 8500 is going to the trash as soon as I run out of ink. Now it will only copy (or print if you have the patience to cancel the alignment every time and waste 2-3 sheets).I think I'm going for the 8730. I actually looked the Epson Ecotank but they are "very slow" compared to these HP machines (it's a shame because the ink cost is VERY LOW).Thank you.

I hope it lasts for many years.Thanks for your responses.After searching everywhere on the internet and looking at more models and brands that I really wanted to in the first place, the review of "Tek Syndicate" (very complete), the durability tests I found from BLI and most of all the specs of the printer itself made me buy it.

In all seriousness to send a fax without a phone line you would need an Internet fax service. You scan to your computer and then you send the fax using your computer through the fax service. It is possible to receive faxes without a phone line with an Internet fax service though. To do this you configure your Internet fax service to email your faxes to the printer's HP ePrint email address that you configured.

I almost decided NOT go get this one after I noticed your answer above about duplex printing where you said " the answer is you need to flip sides manually". I read a comment a few post below this one by "Technology Tips" where he states that the 8620 flips the page AUTOMATICALLY. It has to make 2 passes to do that on the page, but at least it is automatic. I just wanted to post a heads up for others. That said, your review was GREAT and I will be buying this printer if it will allow me to use third party ink without to much of a fuss. If anyone else has this printer and is using non-epson ink on this exact model printer, please post to let us know your experience and where u get your ink. Hi dear friend, I would like to thank you for your kind words, as it seems you really watched and read carefully what I posted (which means my efforts are not spent for nothing). Indeed the 8720 allows to print / scan automatically from both sides, as this is something that should be defined first, using the HP software. This is an important feature, but this specific device has so many of them, that it's not an easy task to make a short video review that will include all of them (but I update additional info in the FAQ section to my videos). It is great to have people who notice what I write and add their input in the comments to the video, as I encourage my viewers and subscribers to do that. In my opinion, this is how your can learn best about a specific item/services (and I truly enjoy the interaction!). As for third-party ink, I believe you meant non-HP ink (and not non-epson ink), and in this specific case I would not be able to help, as I am not aware of a reliable seller/manufacturer for this specific purpose (but if this changes, I will promise to update this info). Let me know your thoughts about the printer if you choose to get it (or whatever will be your final decision). Hola! Como estas!? My espanol is no so good, so if I understand correct you want to switch to letter? If it is adjusting the paper tray - you should take it out and place it properly. If it is adjusting the printing output - before printing, open the setup/preferences box and choose there the size of wanted envelop that you plan to print on (press "ctrl+p" and play with the paper size etc). Make sure it will be the same as what you placed on the paper tray. Let me know if you managed to solve this issue. one of the best reviews ever on youtube. Most reviewers talk like they are desperate to make you buy the stuff so that they get paid. Anyway a couple of things i want clarification on. 1. what is the color print quality on photo paper. 2. Does this print on post card or envelope and how do I set that up? 3. without using a cable can i scan and upload to my android phone? One point you have forgotten to mention is that this sends the printout away from the person unlike other inkjet printers.

1. The impression of people I introduced the printing on photo paper was excellent, they all noticed a big difference compared to normal paper.
2. Yes, you can modify the size of the paper / envelop / postcard in the drawer / feeder + the software that comes with it, and then print what you wish to print.
3. I usually print directly to my computer, but from what I recall it is supposed to do that with smartphones as well, since there are apps and NFC chip in the printer.
As for the point I did not mention - I didnt get what you meant to say.

What I meant was the output tray in most inkjet printers are directed towards the user that is printouts come towards you. But in this model the output tray and printout are directed away from the user.

I accept your remark about printing and scanning a document as a demonstration in order to demonstrate it's printing quality.
Creating such a video demands some effort and thinking forward how to assemble everything so it will tell a clear story, and yet I dont want this to be boring and tiring.
There is this issue that something might seem obvious to one person is not so relevant for another person (especially when the videos goes global, with the cultures difference...).
In this video review I focused on specific things, and I compensate about what is missing from the video review by:
1. Answering for comments to this video.
2. If needed (and I get the time) I make a followup video review - I think this is the type of item that can use a follow up video, since I always learn something new about it.
3. There are the social networks fan pages and accounts that I publish there additional information, so I can post some photos (check the links below).
4. I constantly learn to get better and make better video reviews so I am open to listen to what the viewers & subscribers of Original Video Reviews have to offer ;-)
Hope it sounds fair to you, let me know if you need an example to demonstrate the print quality and I will do my best to come up with something - I can tell you that the print quality of this printer (and the rest of HP's printers I reviewed so far) is more than adequate for the majority of the population, including if you will choose to print photos in high quality.

Thank You. I appreciate your help on how and where to put envelopes for printing. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 does NOT have the 'How To Video' on our company printer so I had to resort to RUclips.com to see if any HELP videos were out there to help since NO "How To" booklets were enclosed in the package box of the printer. Very disappointed on the envelope printing since our old printer allowed you to place the envelope on the additional top tray (it had a separate easy insert top tray that flapped over the paper tray) without having to PULL the tray out completely like this OfcJetPro 8720 printer does. Usually we only have to print (1) envelope at a time for various needs and to have to remove the WHOLE TRAY, Remove the Paper, then place (1) envelope to print an address. It doesn't save any printing steps as stated on the advertisement. >:-/ This is a Medium Size Company Use Printer and it did NOT help our office save steps. Don't recommend for printing 3-5 simple envelopes in a day. However, if it wasn't for YOUR Video, we'd STILL be trying to figure out where & how to do this, so Again, THANK YOU!!

I'm not sure if your answer is genuine praise for Smart Ink or a hidden commercial, please clarify that, because it's hard for me to believe HP's printer would allow non-genuine ink cartridges while blocking genuine HP ink cartridges.

If one color runs out, does the printer still print? Also, do you just replace that one color cartridge or all of them? Unbelievable how some printers force you to replace all cartridges even if only one is needed. Mindboggling, in fact. Thanks.

- Yes you can still use the printer if one color runs out.
- You need to replace the specific ink cartridge that runs out, but it's not supposed to prevent you from using the printer/other colors when printing (or scanning/copying/faxing).

1. Using the software that is relevant for this device.
2. From the device itself by doing the following:
- Touch Copy > Settings
- Scroll down to Resize option and use enlarge or reduce (in %)
- Touch return
- Touch Black or Color to copy.

As for the 8740 model... I recommend to check HP's website which offers an option to compare between devices, and learn the differences between them. I can tell you that for the average user, the differences are almost not noticeable.

I probably don't need the 8740 if it's basically the same as the 8720. Only difference I can see it the 8740 comes with 2 paper trays.

Slide feather = document feeder?
If so, you need to define that in the HP software itself when you want to scan the document.

Great video on how to set up the 8720. My question is: Is there a Photo Tray that comes with the unit that I can't find, or do I have to order another tray? On a typical day, I go back and forth printing 8.5x11 and 4x6 photos. It would be a hassle to change trays. Thank you

You can place photo paper in the paper tray and adjust it to the right measurements (I showed that in the video itself).
And then you will need to set the paper type from the software for the printer.

Thank you for your quick response OVR Guy. That is good to know. I did what you said and the photo copying works great. I am just sad that I have to continuing reload one tray with either letter sized paper or photo paper. All the previous copy machines I had came with a photo tray installed and you didn't have to go back and forth reloading paper. If I had known this on the front end, I would have bought a different printer. Thank you very much

You can add a 2nd paper tray that will go at the bottom of the printer, it probably will cost you, I suggest you contact HP customer support in your area and ask them about that.
If they say it's not possible let me know about it cause I am sure this is what I read in the relevant documentation.

As for using a printer for stickers purposes - I only used ink-jet printers for stickers printing, and they did a great job.
Can't tell you how it's like using Laser printers, but I think both printers could do the job properly. Thus, if it was up to me, I would go for the model that you think is best for you (money wise, easy of use, service & warranty).

so finally got my office jet 8720 yesterday evening. Have used it only for a few B&W prints. So far ok. Space is an issue for the machine and so is the noise it makes. On the other side silent printing decreases the speed of output. But that apart ADF and NFC are great. What i have liked till now is the design of the machine. contemporary yet still commands the look a home office printer should. Two things I got wrong initially were A. The cartridges fit in softly into the slots unlike my other HP printer where it sets in with a snap and the slots don't look pretty tough to handle much force so one should be careful there. B. The main scanner comes with a foam sheet as protection but I didn't know that it has to be removed even when using the ADF. So the first scan was terrible. Then I removed it and peace prevailed. There is protection stand that folds up and down while using the ADF so that if you leave the printer while its doing a job the documents dont fall down on the floor. Small but neat feature. By the way bro the printer here in India came with a USB cable for wired connection. Guess HP thinks India is still not comfortable with wireless printing. To use the mobile printing from android phone or tab you need to download the HP App from playstore. One thing I still haven't found out is how to turn duplex printing on and off in mobile printing. If you have any idea please help.

I agree with most of the things you wrote, while some of the things you mentioned might seem obvious to certain people (Like me in several occasions), which is why I am glad you did mention that in a follow up comment to the video review I made. I guess if the Duplex feature is not available at the moment via the app, you can bring it up to HP, and they can always release a new update to the app... Good way to get a job ;-)
As for the cable... Take it as a complement, since I believe that in my area the sellers usually charge money for everything, so it only shows HP India are thoughtful...

I see these options "reset 802.1 x security" and there is also "restore network settings" would any of these two be the one to reset the printer? (as you can tell i'm not much of a pro with this printer)
if i were to reset the printer would i need special ink cartridges to set it up again?

I advise you to contact HP's customer support if you plan to try to do any sort of reset actions, to prevent unwanted consequences ;-)

If the ink cartridges have ink left in it (half/full), then there's no need to replace it nor use a special ink cartridges.
There's no relevancy between resetting the printer to the level of ink in the ink cartridges.
You might need to align them once again, but that's all.

I think this specific printer is an excellent product.
Though I am trying to be objective as possible, I would have to admit I am used to HP printers, so for me they are very intuitive.
I think this is a big device, so if someone needs a compact all-in-one-printer, you should get it as long as:
1. You have the space / "real-estate".
2. You really need a strong device for a small office or you get to print/scan/fax/copy a lot.
As for the ink expenses:
1. This printer does live to the expectations when it comes to ink efficiency and cost per page.
2. Unfortunately, In the area I am currently at, the "instant ink" program is not available at the moment, so I cannot share with you my thoughts about it.

I had it for 2 years, and I think this is a great printer.
Currently I don't have it with me, cause I'm in a different location, but I would definitely recommend about this printer (though I usually try new models due to what I do...).
Assuming you had a good experience with your old HP printer, I don't see any reason why not sticking with HP (some people had bad experience with HP, and hold a certain grudge on this brand - in this case I would suggest them switch to a different brand).

1. Depends on how many copies you plan to copy with it, I guess several hundreds / thousands a month for a small business it's OK, for larger capacity I advise you to consider a different alternative.
2. I dont know because I didnt use this printer with a USB / Data cable at all.
I set it to WIFI connection and all the computers I worked with it were connected by WIFI / Wireless connection, and it was very fast, no delay in 99.9% of the time.
For this question I advise to consult with HP customer service.
3. I dont know what's your definition of "small business" and what is exactly the latest version of the 8720 (I am not sure there was any change in the device itself, this is a series of several printers 8710/8720/8730/8740) but I think that if I had a small business then I would strongly consider this all-in-one device because its a good brand, offers 3 years guarantee, not too noisy, attractive design, can cope well with large work capacity of thousands of printing / copy tasks per month, responds well and quickly if everything is set properly, easy to use and offers plenty of features. These are my personal justification for why getting this device.

So far I used only original HP ink cartridges, so it's hard for me to relate to refilling kits/non-official ink cartridges.
I heard good and bad stories about non-official ink cartridges, so it's up to you to decide if its worth the try or not.
If it was 5,000 printed pages I would say yes, but 5,000 copies sounds to me a lot - I think it will be able to cope with it, but I'm not sure for how long.
My personal experience taught me that the all-in-one devices of this caliber are mostly work well as printers, and also a reasonable solution as scanners/copy machines for high capacity work.
If I was in your shoes I would consider more options before making this purchase in this case.

The printer isn't supplied with a cable, so you need to purchase it separately, it's very cheap - no more than couple of bucks at a computer store.
It's easy to plug the cable to the printer, and then it will work well - faster and more reliable in my opinion compared to a wireless connection.

hi ! Thanks for your video but I recommand to you to hide the serial number. If not, we can, for exemple, we can use your serial number (if we have the same printer, the same PN but without warranty) for exchange it. HP use only the seral number for check if we have the rights but in the reception of the printer at the SAV, they check only the PN (beacause we can assosiate many printers in an only one SN (but they have in reallity different SN). I guess you can print over glossy paper, as long as it fits the measurements, I don't see any problem with that.
Personally I didn't use this printer for with this kind of paper but I believe it will do a good job.

does HP make a printer of the same series but capable of 13x19? i'm ditching epson because i've gone through a few that end up fatally clogging. i currently use a wf-1100 (best printer in the world btw), but they're very expensive and hard to come by due to their discontinuing a while back.. i need another one, so hoping HP would have been a cheaper alternative. the new epson printers clog because the filter inside the print head is "too fine" and traps pigments which results in a clog you can't flush or dissolve with chemicals.

I believe HP do offer a printer that supports 13x19, but this is a question you should check on their website or ask their customer support which is supposed to be knowledgeable enough to answer this specific question (I usually use A4 or small photo paper, so I am always directing this question to someone else who might be able to reply this question, including other viewers of this channel who can reply this thread!)

my printer is only printing in black and white not colour what do i need to do?

Basically when a kind miss in distress tells me that, I get on my private jet and come to fix it in person.
But... since I am currently very busy in trying to save the world, I have to come up with a different solution.... so lets see...
Assuming you placed the ink cartridges properly, I guess it's related to the definitions when you try to print from the computer, so try checking the setting in the printing preview screen first or go to the printer settings in the device manager.
If still not working, I advise you to contact HP's customer service and make them justify the 3 years guarantee that you should get along with this printer ;-)

I guess it has something to do with the settings - try to play with the black-white/grayscale settings.
If that doesn't work, I advise to contact HP's customer service and try to solve this issue.

I received this 8720 yesterday as a replacement for an 8620. It sends the printed page out face down. Is that normal? I do not like that feature at all. Is there a way to change that? Also when it does this to a photo it is smearing the bottom. Probably due to ink not being all the way dry . Your video was great but never got to the printing steps..lol

Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it a lot and in the future.
You bought up very good questions - I want my videos to be short and fun to watch, and this specific printer offers so many features, so I understand that I wont be able to answer all the questions brought up by my beloved viewers in one video.
I usually focus on the things that apply to me and the majority of the questions brought up in the past by other people. If there is something else that I missed or didnt explain well - I add the information to the description to the video, reply comments and in some cases even make a follow-up video review (If I get the chance...).
As for the way it prints the page with it's face down - From what I learnt so far, this is how this specific printer works, I do recommend to play with the software and see if you can change the definitions to make it operate differently, as there are lots of ways to define the printer. I am not sure if it will work for you, but this is what I would do first.
If that doesnt work or you prefer to jump straight to phase number two - give HP customer support a phone call, as they probably will be able to tell you if it's possible or not.
The printer is not measuring on it's own the photo while or after you enable it - You need to define it, and it can be done by setting it up from the printer / software (my favorite way) / mobile app (which I didnt use much so far).

2. From the device itself by doing the following:
- Touch Copy > Settings
- Scroll down to Resize option and use enlarge or reduce (in %)

I really want to make it simple as possible but currently I'm not next to the printer, so it's a bit hard for me to explain.
Basically when you plug a USB into it, you can control it via the printer itsel - either print from it supported files, or scan to it files.
I advise to update the firmware to make sure you have the latest version, so it might be easier to work with.
If things gets complicated, I advise to contact HP's customer service.

Basically it seems the 8720 is more compact compared to the model you mentioned (everything is relative), it will take less space and probably there are differences in the costs and specs which you can see easily on HP's website by comparing both printers side by side.
I did not get to review the printer you mentioned above, but if I recall correct, someone who commented on this video was interested in the 8720 and finally got the one you mentioned, so try to find this comment and write to him, maybe he will be able to give you more details about his experience so far with this printer.
As for the 8720 - this is a more compact printer, but still a mean machine that does the job well for the small business.

HP 953 ink? Everywhere I've seen, it says it takes HP 952. I can't even find HP 953 for sale anywhere. Could it be that the HP 953 are the test/break-in ink cartridges?

I didn't hear about that so far, but to be on the safe side and avoid mistakes - It would be best to confirm this issue with HP customer service in your area.
There might be differentiation in the ink models in different locations (even if its done just to confuse the customer so they wont purchase the product in other territories...).

When I reviewed this printer I was outside the USA.
I guess the model number of the ink cartridges is the only difference, but there's a chance that it's not (the same as variance in electric currents, TV broadcasting methods etc.). The ink cartridges have a chip when you plug them to the printer, so I guess HP thought about it when they designed this printer.
If it's worthy or not to find better deals for ink cartridges on the other side of the world...? well when it comes to HP, I always used original ink cartridges sold in my territory, and avoided different alternatives.

Can this device save scans as one group of files from the 50 sheet auto input tray to a folder on your pc? Does it auto duplex the back and front of each page scanned?

As for the 1st question:
When you scan a document, you can either use the ADF (automatic documentfeeder) or the Flatbed scanner glass. To see how to scan multiple pages into onefile using the ADF, click here. To see how to scan multiple pages into one file using the Flatbed scanner glass, click here.
As for the 2nd question:
Check the HP software, and define the device to do that when scanning.

Hi!I have an Officejet pro 8500a Plus that has just broken down and I'm looking for a good substitute for it. Does this printer take like 2-3 minutes to start and cleans the printheads like 10 times a day even if you don't use it much? It takes about 10-15 seconds to print the first page of the day or if it was in sleep mode?I never had any problems with HP, but with the 8500 I was fed up, instead of the printer working for me it seemed that I was the one working for it; printhead cleanings during document printings, checking processes every now and then... I really don't want to buy another printer like that, if they have solved the problems I will go for one of these, if they haven't I will try another brand.Thank you.

First of all my impression is that the 8720 is in a different league than the 8500 (but this is because I am not familiar with the 8500).

According to this webpage:
First page out (ready) black As fast as 9 sec First page out (ready) color As fast as 10 sec.
I used a stoppage time to check how much time it takes this printer to turn on - less than 1 minuet (including connecting to the wireless network).
Printing is very quick, and I am very far from the router, so it does response in seconds.
This printer has 256MB of RAM memory and I guess it's processor is supposed to be better then older models.
Most of the time this printer is in hibernation or sleep mode so unless I am using it, there are no annoying noises of cleaning the printheads.
If you need a second opinion, I suggest you ask "Technology Tips" (a RUclips channel that is more than happy to answer about questions related to HP printers to the viewers of my channel - Tell him the OVR guy expects him to treat you like royalty!).
Let me know what was your decision about the 8500... I guess the moment a printer that gets old starts to annoy it's owner, it should be exiled like the "Frozen" song ("LET IT GO"...).

The 8500 is going to the trash as soon as I run out of ink. Now it will only copy (or print if you have the patience to cancel the alignment every time and waste 2-3 sheets).I think I'm going for the 8730. I actually looked the Epson Ecotank but they are "very slow" compared to these HP machines (it's a shame because the ink cost is VERY LOW).Thank you.

Hi again.In the end I bought the HP PageWide 477dw.It's supposed to last more and have less problems with the ink. I hope it lasts for many years.Thanks for your responses.After searching everywhere on the internet and looking at more models and brands that I really wanted to in the first place, the review of "Tek Syndicate" (very complete), the durability tests I found from BLI and most of all the specs of the printer itself made me buy it.

For example you can define it as JPG file.
The definitions are done from the HP software / other software you'll choose to use with the scanner.

Yes you can fax wirelessly without a phone line, you just need to have the optional flux capacitor installed.
In all seriousness to send a fax without a phone line you would need an Internet fax service. You scan to your computer and then you send the fax using your computer through the fax service. It is possible to receive faxes without a phone line with an Internet fax service though. To do this you configure your Internet fax service to email your faxes to the printer's HP ePrint email address that you configured.

I almost decided NOT go get this one after I noticed your answer above about duplex printing where you said " the answer is you need to flip sides manually".
I read a comment a few post below this one by "Technology Tips" where he states that the 8620 flips the page AUTOMATICALLY. It has to make 2 passes to do that on the page, but at least it is automatic. I just wanted to post a heads up for others.
That said, your review was GREAT and I will be buying this printer if it will allow me to use third party ink without to much of a fuss. If anyone else has this printer and is using non-epson ink on this exact model printer, please post to let us know your experience and where u get your ink.
P.S. i just now noticed that you also responded to the post from Technology Tips. at least I did not waste ink printing all this LOL

I would like to thank you for your kind words, as it seems you really watched and read carefully what I posted (which means my efforts are not spent for nothing).
Indeed the 8720 allows to print / scan automatically from both sides, as this is something that should be defined first, using the HP software. This is an important feature, but this specific device has so many of them, that it's not an easy task to make a short video review that will include all of them (but I update additional info in the FAQ section to my videos).
It is great to have people who notice what I write and add their input in the comments to the video, as I encourage my viewers and subscribers to do that. In my opinion, this is how your can learn best about a specific item/services (and I truly enjoy the interaction!).
As for third-party ink, I believe you meant non-HP ink (and not non-epson ink), and in this specific case I would not be able to help, as I am not aware of a reliable seller/manufacturer for this specific purpose (but if this changes, I will promise to update this info).
Let me know your thoughts about the printer if you choose to get it (or whatever will be your final decision).

My espanol is no so good, so if I understand correct you want to switch to letter?
If it is adjusting the paper tray - you should take it out and place it properly.
If it is adjusting the printing output - before printing, open the setup/preferences box and choose there the size of wanted envelop that you plan to print on (press "ctrl+p" and play with the paper size etc). Make sure it will be the same as what you placed on the paper tray.

I'm not sure why this happened to you, but if you could broaden your claim it would be more reliable and people can realize why you say that, and maybe learn from your experience. Otherwise, it's pointless claim.
