In this episode of The Redline, Lemmy and Spurgeon set off for a camping adventure. Along the way, they share their tips and tricks for moto-camping, and maybe take a detour or two. Two very different machines demonstrate that anyone with a tank of gas and a plan can go camping too. From adding storage to your bike to camping in comfort, Spurg and Lemmy cover all the essentials for a night under the stars.

Probably my most favorite Redline episode to date so far!! I love my Moto camping Adventures on my versys but one thing always still eludes me. Whenever I pack my adult beverages in the beginning of the trip they always get well....rather warm. Any products or tried-and-true advice you wish to give this young buck? 🍺
ZLA Lemmy well that's just one way of doing it. Straight to the point on that one. 🤣
My buddy Ryan takes a different approach: instagram.com/p/BZyYJbHH1ge/?hl=en&taken-by=onewheelwheatley
Bag Wine has come a long way, red wine is preferred warm. So Bota Box and Black Box are two great options for adult beverages.
Miss motocamping on my Versys, had the mark II. Might have to pick up the mark III
Get a reusable soft freezer pack, place between beverage cans, and wrap in towel, place in plastic bag, and Wrap again in blanket, or even middle of sleeping bag stuff sack. The wrap will act as insulation, keeping cold in, and heat out. Towel will absorb condensation, plastic bag keeps outer layers dry. Dry towel by fire while enjoying beveridge. Use bag for cleaning up campsite, or separating dirty clothes and clean.
This is one of those videos where you think, "I'll know all this stuff already" but you end up learning some things anyway. On my first trip 20 years ago I set up the tent properly but later that night I was so drunk I couldn't find it in the dark. I passed out face down on the ground outside some other tent with a snoring man inside. Happy times.
fun times! thanks for the laugh
Ha. Classic 🖤
Two words for motorcycle camping, baby wipes. So many uses to solve so many problems. Must have
Ja Ja discovered baby wipes at age 50 .. Also handy for over the road Truckers..
Money. 💰
Just as helpful as baby wipes but covers a wider range of needs.
Seriously, baby wipes are the best!
Ive never used and never felt the need for it
Robert Boyer agreed
And always have a camera crew with a van, folding chairs, beer and firewood. :)
Jolly Green Biker as the producer of this video, I can tell you that both hosts rode only motorcycles during the trip and the firewood was sourced by Spurgeon on foot from the front office of the camp site. But yes, the crew did have comfy chairs and slept in RV's.
Called a chase crew..lol
All of that comes standard with the purchase of a 1200gs.
@@UhYeahWhateverDude full crew and van fits easy in the saddle bags
Chilli for dinner is fine as long as you are in separate tents.
You guys are legit like the good old topgear but with bikes. Im not even into touring but still watched the video
old top gear wouldve made jokes about not having a comfortable place to take a dump
One thing I want to add before hitting the road is to adjust rear shock preloads due to the additional weight. This is important, as my friend rode out once with all his panniers and top box on the rear and his shocks bottomed out giving a rear tire tube pinch. His whole camping was cancelled as he had to tow his motorcycle back to garage.
I'm only 13 but if been watching so many of your videos now I feel a lot better about getting a motorcycle and having fun
Good luck kid get a bike that fits you and have responsible fun
I took a long ride up to Bill's Old Bike Barn yesterday. What a fantastic and varied collection! I thought I'd be there only a half hour or so? 3 hrs later, I had to admit to myself there was still too much to see, and I'll be going back annually. Great content you guys!
Loved the format. Less advertisement and more content. Thumbs up guys
Always remember to adjust suspension according to the added gear and/or passenger weight. Good episode!
Makes such a difference! First time I was testing out carrying my girlfriend pillion and the handling felt like shit - cranked the rear preload up from 3 to 7 (only adjustability I had) and it made a world of difference.
I do quite lot of backbacking and winter ski touring with tent accomondation. So here's few tips:
a) Don't get canned food. It's awful from weight and package point of view.
b) Don't bring beer. Same as a. Bring hard booze.
c) DEFINITELY bring airmatress or foam under the sleeping bag. More critical the colder it gets. In motorcycle "camping" it's not life and death, but you really do not want to get any cold on your back after it's been carrying shit all day.
d) When you get out of tent, get your sleeping bag out and turn it over and put it fe. over the tent. Let it dry out from your nightly sweat while you eat, etc. Even if it doesn't feel moist.
e) if you are camping above freezing temperatures, use gas stove, not gasoline. It's lighter and backs better.
f) Less is more. You don't need change of clothes every day. You don't need separate plates, etc, for eating. If it's not cold, don't get thermos bottle.
Matti Sillanpää amen
if you are not taking beer, don't go camping
e) what happens if you run our of gas for your stove? With gasoline I've got a spare 19 litres of extra cooking fuel.
I'm about to embark on a 2 week motocamping trip with someone I've never camped with before. Perfect timing for some inspiring video.
How'd that go?
@@monsterboardr he never responded you think he survived?
Thanks for the episode guys! With my knee out of commission, I'm living vicariously through watching yours and other videos. Can't wait to heal up and get back out again. Cheers!
Thanks for this! Great vid.
This show is great. As a solo dualsport camper hitting open BLM land on my weekends, I learned quite a few things from you guys!
i love my parachute hammock and a rain tarp for that time of the year. never underestimate a good pack of wipes too.
Outstanding video. I especially appreciate the explicit consideration for space and budget. I had never heard the tip about trimming the foam sleeping pad. Brilliant! Thank you, guys!
My new favorite Revzilla video. These dudes had great chemistry... loved that banter
Great episode showing the approach with two different styles/sized bikes and luggage options! My essential lightweight camping gear are a Jetboil, Aeropress, bivy sack, and Mountain House freeze dried meals. I'm jonesing to get out and explore. Thanks for the tips!
Lem and Sperg you both look like you're enjoying your dream jobs. Thanks for the content.
Im heading out on a week long moto camping in a week and now this pops up in my feed. And its 20min, timing couldnt be more perfect! :)
Great video as usual. Wish they'd come out more often! Awesome!
So awesome... Bill's old bike barn is like 5 minutes from where I grew up. Love that you guys are doing new things in the motoblogging realm.
3 years later and this is still a great video. Thanks Rev crew
Love that campground, the owner is an amazing guy! Been going for years.
Good vid guys and for those just getting into the Moto Camp Groove. I have also found that a Folding/Collapsible chair and a Jetboil kit stove are essential and that some of the best gear and related advice has actually come from the backpacker hiker & x-country ski community.
I am so glad I found this channel ... You guys are passionate about what you do and it shows
That last tip is so important. Been camping for years (out of a car), often in outback Australia and my parents always drilled it into me to clean up the campsite after. Every time I go with the boys now we scour the campsite like a search party cleaning up all the rubbish and it is disgusting how much of it is left from other campers. It's not a hard job and it keeps the outdoors looking as tidy as possible.
Think I got some good tips for my first motorbike camping trip I'll do as soon as I have my bike ready, cheers boys
Only the best of friends are able to ride and camp together but it is on a completely different level when they can take potshots at each other without getting irritated. . . . good on you fellas. Thanks for sharing.
I have those same givi outback on my F800 and love them. great seats, tables etc.... I use them for a stable platform for my stove
Somehow just seeing this now. Great inspiration to plan a trip for when things open back up. Thanks!
As a frequent camper who buys a bike this week, i'm looking forward to this summer! Thanks for the video!
Good video. You are right about unpacking and drying out your camping equipment.
By far the best Redline episode to date. Even though it was a little cheesy and campy at times I didn't feel like it was a late-night infomercial trying to sell me a bunch of stuff that I don't really need.
Great video and wow what a loverly place that barn .I use a Givi 25Lt on the back and i put the tent on top
Loved this segment guys! Keep up the great work on showing how much of a fun lifestyle motorcycling can be. Wish this came out before my first moto camping trip a few months ago, but can't complain. Great editing too!
makes me want to go camping with my friends. good job guys! nice bikes btw
Those hard bags/boxes look fantastic on the AT.
Hey they're out by Indian Head, PA. I've camped as well as gone to that museum, too! Can't wait to go by bike in the future!
Some good info about tents and sleeping bags. Love Lemmy... seems such a good character.
Nice break from the typical gear reviews and maintenance tips - great to see you guys promoting one of the great biker pastimes; rolling free, exploring new areas and camping. Thanks for keeping it simple and fun, and encouraging riders to get out there and enjoy one of the most rewarding aspects of motorcycling.
Awesome boys!
Very well thought out tips, tricks and advices :)
Always love coming back to this video a the start of the season, going to be a great summer!
I’m on a new harly softail, I bought ozark 7 person teepee tent, doesn’t take up lot of room but I can stand up and walk around in the tent, easy set up too.
Just rode the Colorado BDR route on my 2018 Honda Rally like yours. I added side and rear racks, crash bars and skid plate for a total of about 10 pounds, and had 45 pounds in three Nelson Rig dry bags. The bike was still well under max weight and handled everything very well, on road and off. My buddy carried about 45 pounds on his Versys 650 so between us we had a large tent, table, chairs, stove, cooler, food, water and supplies for a week with no problem.
Lem, get some sun on those legs, i almost went blind!! 😆😆😆
@ZLA Lemmy lol. For me you're handsome
😆
More camping and touring videos please!! I know you guys mainly do reviews and tips videos but this is awesome too!!
Best episode so far!! the moto museum was most of my favorite part!! Keep it up!!!!!
Total Zen!! Need much more of this, world would be a better place. But honestly not a single word spoken….I can’t open my tool box without talking to myself😂😂. Thanks Ari, this was good and that little warrior needed a new heart to go with that never die soul. 👍🏻
Awesome video, thanks for letting people know to leave the place cleaner than it was!
yeah! camping with motorcycles!
Wow, what a great episode!
So cool to see that Spurge is riding the same bike as mine, although his is a bit older.
Happy Camping
You guys are amazing! Very helpful episode that leaves a nice and happy feeling within..i wanna head out now!! Cheers guys!
Well done! i used your video when i was planning my trip for my SOLO Motorcycle Camp Out
Been camping over 30 years but never by bike. Found this useful, thanks
I’m so ready to go motorcycle camping for the first time. Options are within 30 minutes of my home. Thank you for this helpful video.
Thanks guys. Very useful. One of the best videos I've watched in RUclips
Mountain House meals. All you need is water, something to boil it in and a fire or jetboil type system. You'll probably bring water anyway and the mountain House meals are light and very packable.
Great video. You guys were camping and riding in an area that i frequent a couple times of year. Bills bike barn is awesome and i've camped at steal steeds several time. The owners there are awesome. Love camping at the bottom of the hill near the river where you guys were.
These vids are great. Keep them coming.
Another home run guys! I went camping for the first time last year and I did it on my Monster. It was an amazing time!
Like a ducati monster?
@@calebeadie8702 Yeah
You guys are awesome. Keep those videos and bikes rolling.
Awesome video!! I’m riding a vstrom down to Texas from Missouri on Monday! I have dual hard cases and one backpack. I’m excited! I’m going to go slap and camp, so 7 days on the road. Thanks for the tips guys 🙌🏼🙌🏼
We are Moto camping this year. Me on a Goldwing pulling a trailer. My wife on Spyder. We can take everything. We get the looks when we pull into the campgrounds.
"The mountains are calling and I must go" that's a t-shirt from Jackson, Wyoming. Love it! (My home). All great advice, but there's no way you're gonna catch me drinking a Miller Lite. 😂
Had a fun time camping with you fine gentlemen!
I pack all food/water/heavy stuff on center rack for balance and keep soft light tent, bedding and cloths on side paniers of 300lb wr250r. acrebis illuminated hand guards which are low draw led on a separate toggle switch make for good lighting and with a new lithium ion battery i feel comfortable leaving them on for even a few hours if needed. thanks for the inspiration, I am going to that billy barn from long island this spring. awesome vid.
Fine episode right there
Great video! Heading to Bill's tomorrow from Philly. Can't wait!
Good advise!! i find every time ive gone over the years its been less and less things carried. less things = less weight. lighter bike. more enjoyable ride!
Dudes of the road.. cheers mates.. great video.
Loved this episode.. then I remembered Broke Back Mountain... ;) good job guys... very informative and BIlls bike barn.. who knew.. planning trip there this summer for his 80th Anniv.
Hammock camping to save even more weight!
With more comfort.
the bad part is that some campgrounds won't have any trees at the spots you're paying for, close enough, or that could handle the weight.
I can't fall asleep on my back, so not an option for me.
In a lot of the areas around me, there aren't a lot of trees. You could pack polls, but it's still something to think about
@@nomadben At 6'3" my knees try to hyperextend when I'm lying on my back. I've been out 5 times hammock motorcycle camping and still can't figure out how to make it work!
Yeah, sleep at 30 degrees to the axis of the hammock. Works for about 10 minutes, less if you move a muscle.
I have the same CRF250 and Im loving it.
that MT at 9:20 is the British army bike, it is so much fun to ride & will go anywhere, a little under powered but still so much fun, my friend rides one in the winter.
Took my R3 camping this past summer. My 2 person cocoon tent didn't fit into any of my bags, had to have the batons hanging out the back. So paranoid i was gonna get there and not have em anymore. I let my friends with the campers take care of the food situation. I bought a decent bottle of bourbon to make up for it.
You tend to get a lot of looks when you go rolling into a campground on a sportbike loaded with camping gear.
This was pretty good. Good work guys 👍🏼
Great insight for the baby wipes. I love to motocamp with my Yamaha MT.
Great video, some talk about camping stoves may have been handy especially in countries where open fires are less acceptable!
Nice editing and some sweet shots you got in there!
The new backpacking cots are a great alternative to a sleeping pad. They get you above the rocks and You can store shoes and gear underneath increasing your in the tent storage. Lastly for even more comfort add an inflatable sleeping pad on top. Don’t forget a backpacking chair. Sitting on the ground or on rocks after riding is less relaxing. Being well rested is key to enjoying the ride.
When I get my Tuareg 660 I'm definitely joining you guys.
Very nice and informative video. Love you guys' chemistry.
A hammock/underliner are a good space-saving option to the tent/sleep pad set up if you can find some trees nearby. Saves the space used by tent poles. Still need a sleeping bag either way, though you might get away without in warm southern nights.
You guys are my hero's. Thanks for the camping video... and maybe another one in the future? Enjoyed seeing that motorcycle barn too!
I am sure you can find better heroes than us two knuckleheads! Thanks for watching!
Great vid until you popped open those Miller Lites - certainly room on those rigs for a proper beer.
Yup. They need a decent Canadian beer. I bet you the Fortnine crew wouldn’t drink that crap.
Yeah, brought everything but class with them into the campsite.
Reminds me of the old saying “if Harley Davidson made an airplane would you fly on it”?
At least they chased it down with some vodka
Normally you come, set up a tent, make a run to the store get some food and beer.
Good video, thanks for the tips!
Awesome video guys. I've been thinking about doing a trip to Yosemite from Texas. Definitely not a weekend trip but info nevertheless. Content is awesome and the chemistry between you two keeps the video interesting. Please do more of these videos.
This was funny as hell to watch too! Hahhah
I can only handle 2-3 hours and I will have to stop for sure and relax the rest of the day 🙌🏼
Wow!! That motorcycle museum was so cool!
Man you guys are lucky to have each other as friends 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Love that you guys came to Bill’s! My boys love going there with me! Great episode 👍🏻
Bill's bike barn is a gem. You don't really need to be a bike guy to like the place. A great collection of interesting things.
I've never motorcycle camped, but you're right it does seem a lot like backpacking. I've done a fair amount of backpacking in my day, and small & light is definitely the key. Spurge, so you know, they make a backpacking Keurig now.
Another great vid..
Thnx.
Great show. Lem, your tent can be bought with a great feature (floor saver). Much lighter and packs easier. Another option for luxury camping on a bike is a cot, Check out Alps Mountaineering ready lite cot. If you want more details on light camping check with your local Scout troop!
Hey RevZilla, i work at a bike shop and a backpacking store and I just want to say you guys hit everything on th head here camping wise. Lem and sturge must've done some camping/backpacking back in the day. Y'all have my stamp of approval!
Do like ultralight backpackers and just bring compactor trash bag as a waterproof liner inside your soft bags that doubles as a separator for wet/dirty vs dry/clean.
Excellent video production. Reminds me of the On Two Wheels videos from Motorcyclist Magazine.
Nice Logo Edward!!!
Great Video guys. Really enjoyed it and Thanks for the tips!!
What an amazing video. I so enjoyed it!
Really enjoyed this video chaps. Ride safe from a fan in the UK
Off topic but I just love how great these guys' hair looks despite wearing helmets all day!
