In my personal opinion - this is the performance that dethroned Heath as the greatest depiction of the Joker we've been blessed with. His acting was the most phenomenal art I've ever seen. Simply magnificent film. Words genuinely can't explain the experience.
Matthew Kenny I see it as a tie between Heath and Joaquin. It's not really fair to compare them too much since this movie explore Joker's character. So Joaquin has a lot of time to put some depth to his character. As for Heath, he'll have to make do with a very limited screen time.

"Pogo's", the club Arthur performes has the nickname of the serial killer John Wayne Gacy, who introduced himself as "Pogo the Clown" in children's parties and fairs where he targeted his victims. Dark even in details is this movie, right? PS: 8 min of standing ovation and shouts of "Bravo" in the official premiere in Venice Film Festival is a very good sign this will be a great movie.
Phoenix, Heath and ofcourse Mark Hamill. Such good portrayals all and nop notch acting. All displaying in various ways the tragic and horrifying clown prince of crime.

M. M I feel this is the type of movie that may not be the right cup of tea for certain people, especially like sensitive people. There are times that some people may find it bad, and I’ve heard a lot of reviews stating how they tried humanizing jokers actions due to his past. I don’t think that was the case, I think they tried to build a story, show what he was, and what he went through to give the viewers a more deeper understanding of his character. There are times when it gets a little violent but I think this was such a great masterpiece, from the writing to the cinematography to the ACTING! Definitely on my list of top 20 movies of 2019.
Prior to watching this, I'd recommend that you check out Robert De Niro's 1983 movie "The King of Comedy," since this movie drew a lot of inspiration from it.

In the recent joker tv spot we see joker laughing in different parts of the film blah blah blah, But at the end when the music starts to cut out, we see I’m in a cell in Arkham maybe. With his hands out. Looking like he is famous and is getting applause. Then in the next shot we see him in front of 100s of people with his arms out on the same way getting applause. So maybe this story is in his mind and his trying to imagine his plans success
This movie is going to be very similar to king of comedy which is also about a mentally ill comedian and it was also the inspiration for this movie but most of the things we will see on screen aren’t going to be as they really are they are going to be as a mentally ill person like Arthur sees it
The joker in this movie is most likely a schizophrenic as in early reviews they say people will have their own say on what was real and what was imagined

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but when the first or even second wave of reviews hit they were all positive but it seems like other critics are trying to stand out now with weird criticisms.
I think the thing to remember too is that professional film critics see movies constantly, much more than the average person does. I remember reading an interesting interview with one critic where they said harsher reviews are more common because as you see so many movies you start to see the consistent patterns and there isn't much that is that new or exciting. While some people might go to a movie a couple of times a year they have to pretty much watch everything that comes out. It's like working in a fast food join and constantly eating the food there. Food might be good but you're eating it all the time so you kinda get tired of it. I always put that interview into perspective and try to go off my own judgement when it comes to what movies I see or enjoy.

Best Joker up there with Heath Ledger imo. Very strong contender at Oscar's, Joaquin Phoenix definitely deserves an oscar for that performance.

It was very similar to how I felt when I watched the trailer for the first time. Just completely invested in what I was seeing.
