It's kind funny before this series of videos Vicki was almost always serious on camera. Now several times she's shown herself happy or excited and when that happens she lights up the screen amazingly.
Leonard Dobbin I want to live in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland but it's a long time Im from the Philippines Our train is not interesting as UK Our MRT is packed like sardines and almost everyday Incident But there Improvement in the Train
My friends was the signalman on duty when the Garrards cross Tescos collapsed! He got an award for his fast actions which prevented an bigger incident.
Thanks for the quick tour of Oxford. I was there just two weeks ago on holiday and it brought back some good memories. Luckily you had far better weather than I did.
These videos are annoyingly watchable :) I have no idea why as I had not even considered I like trains. Great knowledge from the dynamic duo. Vicki is just a joy to watch with her quirky likeable style. She has a gift of always just saying the right thing which I guess is why so many people they meet warm to her instantly. She is also pretty good and keeping Geoff light when he gets a little too geeky. They make a great double act.
Sitting on a train watching video of Geoff & Vicky on a train, hearing the lady announcing their next station whilst hearing the same voice announce my next (different) station - now that is a bit 🤙🏼weird
I'm an Oxford local, you definitely need to come back to visit, there's way more to see. Have a drink in the bird and baby and a trip to South Park to get a photo of the dreaming spires at sunset.
Oh my! I have only just noticed the words 'All The Stations' in the theme tune. This is almost as mindblowing as the day I discovered the words 'Red Dwarf' are repeated in the 'Red Dwarf' theme tune...
Hello There, a great video throughout, I do love Oxford it's an absolutely beautiful place which is so unique and has wonderful architecture throughout, this is a very beautiful route, I loved the interviews that you did as well with all the various and helpful locals. Keep up the good work! Cheers Peter :)
Oxford! Great city where I spend every work day slaving away. :P Edit: Vicky says "This is Cromwell right?" looking at that statue at the Bodleian; that's actually William Herbert, founder of Pembroke College and Chancellor of the University. Highly recommend coming back and checking out Oxford's fantastic museums; the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology and the University Museum of Natural History (+ Pitt Rivers Museum).
@7:52 - Could not possibly be Oliver Cromwell because the guy in the statue has far too much bling. In any case, Cromwell was associated with Cambridge (he went to Sidney Sussex College, and lived just up the road), not Oxford, which was the Royalist HQ during the civil war.
Hey @Duke Nukem... well actually you're not quite right there. Ok so I was the guide and of course I said it was the Earl of Pembroke etc (edit fail) HOWEVER despite Cromwell being a Cambridge man, I suspect you are not aware that he appears on the very exclusive "Benefactor's Board" in the Bodleian. If you ever go to Duke Humfrey's you can see it on the way in. Cromwell made a generous gift to the library WHILE HE WAS CHANCELLOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD :-)
Wang Yulun Yes the Tesco incident did happen, 7:30pm on 30th June 2005. The plan was to "reclaim" the land by building a tunnel over the cutting, and then building the Tesco store on top. At the time mentioned, the partially completed tunnel collapsed, just as a train was leaving Gerard's Cross station. Fortunately the driver saw what was going on and stopped the train short of the tunnel, so there were no injuries. The line stayed closed for several weeks after this however, and the project was eventually completed, much later than planned, and significantly over-budget!!
Yeah there was a lot of confusion on the trains on Tuesday, Arriva weren't running services to Birmingham in the afternoon, and there were a lot of delays and terminating services early. They said it was due to an incident currently being invesitaged by the emergeny services, and that they didn't know what was going on. Strange.
3:28 - The tunnel had been installed as an extended archway of two sides locked together. Engineers had made a mistake with regard to taking into account soil shift of the installed arch. When they began to fill over the completed archway tunnel, the weight of the soil above put enough pressure on the ground below the tunnel walls and the tunnel arches gave way. A train was waiting at Gerrard's Cross station ready to go.. if the train had departed slightly earlier there would have been a major incident. This happened well before Tesco was installed on top. And yes, it caused massive disruption. BTW, yes, Chiltern is the very best rail company I have EVER used in this country and their trains are nearly always on time, clean and with WiFi and mains ready. Try the Silverline Intercity Service.. it's awesome! A real shame it will not get to be electrified, even in my lifetime. Chiltern Railways FTW!!
Ayeeee Rickmansworth my home town!!!! And one of the best oddities of the national rail network. And Oxford my student city, can't believe I wasn't around to see you! Chiltern is a great TOC in my opinion
Kings Sutton is in Northamptonshire. It's definitely a least used station. I'm guessing Geoff's tentativeness about this is that Kings Sutton is completely surrounded by Oxon, the station immediately to the north (Banbury) is in Oxfordshire, and the two stations immediately to the south on either branch of the line beyond Aynho junction (Heyford on the Oxford branch and Bicester North on the Bicester branch) are also in Oxfordshire. Weirdly, the junction at Aynho is in Northants too but there is no station there.
Yes, it's true about the tunnel and Tesco at Gerrard's Cross. I was commuting regularly from Aylesbury to London, and the passengers from the other line (which was closed) had to use our line. Credit to the staff and authorities, they managed very well given the chaos it caused. I didn't actually realise until now that they did finish the Tesco!!!
Like the Countdown Clock, good piece of business- reaction shots of Viki made it work even better ... chasing the Clock then scrabbling to recover the schedule, home run guys. Appreciate the videography ~ Will; making tough matches work :-)
Oh the memories! If you did Marylebone to Aylesbury via Harrow then you've been on a part of the line I've travelled on for hundreds of times (I used to live in London for 2 years)! (I often took the Met but Chiltern was brilliant when the Tube had works done in the part of the line running parallel to the Met line bit - they did extra frequent replacement services, probably 3 or 4 per hour.) Also I hope no-one got lost at "Boarding Area A" as it did occasionally get my wife confused... PS: My end it is / was ALWAYS "just" Tesco but oh well each to their own!
Really enjoying this series! can't wait to see you coming up to my neck of the woods, would love to say hello! Is there a map or rough schedule somewhere of which way you're going or do we take each (great) video as it comes! thanks you two and good luck.
Knowing the Oxford - London Paddington line pretty well. Was there a stop at Culham? This can be a fairly awkward station if you're not travelling at commuter times.
Interesting that there's no permit to travel machine at Heyford, but there is at Kings Sutton! (Pedant adding: Geoff that's not the Grand Union Canal, it's the Oxford Canal which runs alongside the River Cherwell. 😎)
Rickmansworth is where I stayed last I was in London, even though its not. A restaurant is close to the station, our hotel was through the town. Its a nice little place.
it's meant to be heard for people to know where we'll be and when. we can't arrange to meet loads of people everywhere, otherwise - there will be no time to make the video, and we're on the moved making connections too! however, if people bump into us by change, we'll always be happy to say a quick "hello!"
I recognise CeCe from a BBC documentary a few years ago. About the railways. She was protesting about the closure of a man managed train crossing in her Oxford Village ( I watched it 2 days ago!)
Just bumped into this series on You Tube and I am totally hooked. Was it only me though that found the comment "...as an American even you can understand" quite hilarious.
I remember when the so called Tesco Value Tunnel collapsed, some of the Gerrards Cross residents who didn't want a Tesco in the town opened a bottle of Champagne!
Really good videos on this channel, I always watch your videos when they come out. When will you be filming on the Peterborough to Lincoln line?, as Metheringham and Ruskington are my local stations. :)
Heyford station is nowhere near the Grand Union Canal it's pretty close to the Oxford Canal thou ;) which also runs past my model shop in Hillmorton, Rugby
Things I've learned in this thread: both northerners and southerners think only people in their part of the country do things that in fact everyone does.
I've only been badly delayed by Chiltern about twice in the last 10 years - which is pretty good! I travel a lot to London using either LM or Chiltern and for me it's a case of 'LM will get you there but (more importantly) Chiltern will always get you home'. Being stranded at New St. at midnight with 4 miles to walk, doesn't give me much faith in LM(!)
The story I've heard about the golden ball on the top of West Wycombe church is that Sir Francis Dashwood and members of his Hell Fire Club would climb the church tower, and then climb a ladder up to the globe which was hollow, and they would hold secret meetings inside it. I wonder what they got up to...
Train Maniac The last time I went to Aylesbury, I had to check the news to see if there hadn't been some horrible disaster or something as the place was dead.
When you meet friends you've previously done a least used station with, could you add more info and a link in the description? I recognise the likes of Steve but can never remember from which video!
Blimey, when the music starts in the video I think it's about to end; so I was kinda surprised at the massive use of it in the video, as well as being surprised at the timer. But oh well, at least there were no speed-up footage this time :)
what happened ??? you missed out all the stations from Cholsey to Paddington--- where are Goring and Streatley, Pangbourne, Tilehurst, Reading, Twyford, Maidenhead, Taplow, Burnham.......................
ohh don't mention Tesco in GX (as the locals call it) the locals opposed the building from the start...apparently it wasn't posh enough...waitrose would've been far more to their liking 😊
I did like the shot after the interview with Steve where you are both waving goodbye; also the transition between him filming the train leaving and then what appeared to be a seamless switch to your footage of being on the train. Nice.
I’m really sad, because this is my area. Fun seeing all the stations near me, except my one! (Haddenham and Thame Parkway) Must have left it out of the edit
At Kings Sutton it's the Oxford canal not the Grand Union. The Grand Union runs from London the Birmingham passing though my town of Hemel Hempstead. Shame about your Chiltern day. At least you had a plan B.
Noé3151775 As of last night 1775. They're averaging about 34-44 stations a day. There's a counter which is updated each evening on www.allthestations.co.uk. The map updates at 1000 each day www.allthestations.co.uk/map

I really like All The Stations even though I'm not a British
Same here! It's nice to see and "visit" a country using RUclips, haha.
airplane guy I also enjoy this, for Britain is where I aspire to live one day
You guy's really don't want to live in Britain lmao
Leonard Dobbin I stayed with a family friend in London for 2 months, and believe me - compared to Australia, it's paradise
Leonard Dobbin I want to live in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland but it's a long time
Im from the Philippines
Our train is not interesting as UK
Our MRT is packed like sardines and almost everyday Incident
But there Improvement in the Train
My friends was the signalman on duty when the Garrards cross Tescos collapsed! He got an award for his fast actions which prevented an bigger incident.
Greetings from Tennessee! I find all of these videos so mesmerizing... Makes me want to visit the UK.
Aaron Wadzinski Hi Tina! Loving All The Stations!
Hi Aaron! I've heard nice things about TN too. I have an old school friend in Thompson Station, which is sorta railway sounding!
All the Tescos.
Yes!
I'd love to do "All the Waitrose"!
All the asdas
All the buses
All The Sainsbury’s
If Harry Potter and picturesque old buildings are a thing then Vicki is going to lose her mind when they get to Edinburgh!
?
Loving all the Stations from Canada. Really learning about places I might want to visit on a future trip to the UK
There was a station at Banff or Jasper that melted my heart
Think I shall grab a cup of tea after watching this. Really enjoying this from California.
Your videos are awesome! 😀🚂 keep up the awesome work, and keep loving trains 🚂👍
excellent video, brings back memories of when i lived in oxford! thumbs up
Sigh, memories
Thanks for the quick tour of Oxford. I was there just two weeks ago on holiday and it brought back some good memories. Luckily you had far better weather than I did.
I love this series only just got into it but now can’t stop watching episode after episode 😁

The Transport Guide love your thumbnail
Poor you and Vicki, and poor Chiltern Railway's who you had to abandon... I am sure they are forgiven!
Loving the series!
And I'm off to make a cup of tea - Special Blend. Thanks Geoff, Vicki and Cici.
Superb views of Gerrards Cross station, my local station. Thank you.
I'm an Oxford local, you definitely need to come back to visit, there's way more to see. Have a drink in the bird and baby and a trip to South Park to get a photo of the dreaming spires at sunset.
Oh my! I have only just noticed the words 'All The Stations' in the theme tune. This is almost as mindblowing as the day I discovered the words 'Red Dwarf' are repeated in the 'Red Dwarf' theme tune...
.....I really like Red Dwarf and I have never noticed that in its theme tune...... my mind is currently also in a state of blown.....
I didn't know that about Red Dwarf!!!
Yep, I noticed it tpo
Hello There, a great video throughout, I do love Oxford it's an absolutely beautiful place which is so unique and has wonderful architecture throughout, this is a very beautiful route, I loved the interviews that you did as well with all the various and helpful locals. gbrading Yes it is the Earl of Pembroke and the guide was well aware, but the editors somehow weren't (the yes was in answer to something else)... 😎

Ahh, Steve has returned
I know it is Steve from Least used station Little Kimble
Let's hear it for random strangers on the internet! 😉
So cool that they did a tour of oxford (it being my home town)
For the Gerrard Cross Tesco story: I saw that story on Wikipedia, so I believe it is true.
It's definitely true. It happened during the evening rush hour in June 2005.
Wang Yulun what's the story?
3:20
Wang Yulun WHAT?!!!! YIU BELIEVE WIKIPEDIA????!!!!
Wang Yulun Yes the Tesco incident did happen, 7:30pm on 30th June 2005. The plan was to "reclaim" the land by building a tunnel over the cutting, and then building the Tesco store on top. lovely to meet you today at Ipswich earlier.

Really enjoying your videos. Just one point, Heyford Station is right next to the Oxford Canal, which is a great place to start a canal holiday!

Stopped at Heyford when on a narrowboat - the Oxford Canal is great.
Like the Countdown Clock, good piece of business- reaction shots of Viki made it work even better ... chasing the Clock then scrabbling to recover the schedule, home run guys. Appreciate the videography ~ Will; making tough matches work :-)
Excellent video im enjoying the series!
I always have a little bit of a dance when I here the music come in.
I don't think the suits at Tesco are plotting any legal action. Great work again, and love turning people here in Alexandria on to your saga.
Love Vicki's reaction at 12:03 & 12:04
Wrong canal at Heyford Geoff, it's the Oxford canal that uses the river Cherwell in part to get to Oxford.
Oh the memories! If you did Marylebone to Aylesbury via Harrow then you've been on a part of the line I've travelled on for hundreds of times (I used to live in London for 2 years)! 2:33 it's the guy who I only know as the Aylesbury local. He also coined the phrase good morning youtube
Hits different watching these back knowing that they aren't together anymore
It's very sad, they seem like they were meant for each other 😢
Really enjoying this series! can't wait to see you coming up to my neck of the woods, would love to say hello!
At Marylebone you saw the class 68 diesel, which is my favourite train.
Love the random man in red shirt at Oxford (12:12)
I thought he was GREAT! (But FWIW he's at 8:52 ... the 12min mark is the end...)
gobears6487 ah you spotted my deliberate error 😳
Interesting that there's no permit to travel machine at Heyford, but there is at Kings Sutton! (Pedant adding: Geoff that's not the Grand Union Canal, it's the Oxford Canal which runs alongside the River Cherwell. 😎)
I believe the line is even branded the "Oxford Canal Line"!
Jonathan Combe Funny that, I commuted on it for a long time but I don't remember hearing or seeing that info... thanks!
I also noticed, watching again, that Kings Sutton looks nicer & with more amenities than its neighbour Heyford! (my old commuter station)
Pity you didn't mention the LZB derived ATP system on Chiltern railway, a rarity for Britain. Does it even still work?
Rickmansworth is where I stayed last I was in London, even though its not. A restaurant is close to the station, our hotel was through the town. Its a nice little place.
Going good!
I checked the site, it's somewhat hard to know when you'll be where. I wanted to ask regarding the Nottingham stations!
it's meant to be heard for people to know where we'll be and when. we can't arrange to meet loads of people everywhere, otherwise - there will be no time to make the video, and we're on the moved making connections too! however, if people bump into us by change, we'll always be happy to say a quick "hello!"
I recognise CeCe from a BBC documentary a few years ago. About the railways. She was protesting about the closure of a man managed train crossing in her Oxford Village ( I watched it 2 days ago!)
Will you go on the Oxford to London Marylebone line as I live at Oxford parkway and I could come along for part of the journey
Just bumped into this series on You Tube and I am totally hooked. Was it only me though that found the comment "...as an American even you can understand" quite hilarious.
Ah Bicester North, the station I adore. Also, Bicester Village station used to be Bicesters main train station!
Yes, the Gerrards Cross Tunnel did collapse just after a weekday evening peak. I was on duty at Marylebone at the time, I was the Performance Manager.
Bet that ruined that day's numbers 🤣
Not even the entire Chiltern line, where's Banbury? Up the Puritans
As an Oxfordian, you definitely need to come back and spend some more time! I'd be happy to show you more around Oxford just let me know :)
Fun fact: Kings Sutton is the only station in Northamptonshire that is served by Great Western Railway.
Fun fact: Oakham is the only station in Rutland that is _not_ served by GWR.
i live on the Aylesbury branch! did u stop at wendover because i live there it's my local station!
it's an hour to get from wendover to maralybone tho
I remember when the so called Tesco Value Tunnel collapsed, some of the Gerrards Cross residents who didn't want a Tesco in the town opened a bottle of Champagne!
5:59 It is the Oxford Canal
was great seeing Cholsey and Didcot (my local stations) on here
Thanks for the house points
Really good videos on this channel, I always watch your videos when they come out. When will you be filming on the Peterborough to Lincoln line?, as Metheringham and Ruskington are my local stations. :)
Everyone knows it's Sainsbobblys not Sainsburger. :P
kodamathedestroyed It's Sainsbridges
You monster! :D
No, it's SAINSBUGS !!!
Are you talking about Saint Buds, patron saint of cheap stuff and beerlike substances?
Sounds more a purveyor of weed.
Heyford station is nowhere near the Grand Union Canal it's pretty close to the Oxford Canal thou ;) which also runs past my model shop in Hillmorton, Rugby
I can't tell if people are genuinely complaining about the pronunciation of tescos, or they are doing it ironically because geoff told them not to :P
we say that up north, too.
southerners don't go to Morrison's it is a northern thing
Things I've learned in this thread: both northerners and southerners think only people in their part of the country do things that in fact everyone does.
At Appleford back in the 60s you could buy a train ticket from the Post Office.
the post office operated the bus service. the pillar box doubled as a bus stop.
the whistling child! agh! I also love these coz I don't the funds to travel overseas and this is pretty cool and shows off the UK. :)
I do love the collection of remixes of "going underground".
The Wendover Rail station is one the Ridgeway Path
I've only been badly delayed by Chiltern about twice in the last 10 years - which is pretty good! I travel a lot to London using either LM or Chiltern and for me it's a case of 'LM will get you there but (more importantly) Chiltern will always get you home'.
Being stranded at New St. at midnight with 4 miles to walk, doesn't give me much faith in LM(!)
Chiltern is on time.
Deutsche Bahn is always on time.
Chiltern railways is run by Deutsche bahn
Well, not that day, and you have never been to Germany, clearly. DB isn't bad, but it's not as good as people from outside Germany often think it is.
DB own Arriva Bus, and their service is rubbish
wait, did you go onto the Parliamentary train? The west ruislip one
Until last week, i didn’t know chiltern was run by Arriva. What other franchises (other than wales) do Arriva run
London Overground
The story I've heard about the golden ball on the top of West Wycombe church is that Sir Francis Dashwood and members of his Hell Fire Club would climb the church tower, and then climb a ladder up to the globe which was hollow, and they would hold secret meetings inside it. I wonder what they got up to...
Many, many bad things...
I can also confirm that Aylesbury is an 'unremarkable market town'
Yeah, its not bad, decent high street, medium sized train station, pretty much it.
Train Maniac
The last time I went to Aylesbury, I had to check the news to see if there hadn't been some horrible disaster or something as the place was dead.
Jack heard of foodreviewuk he's from Aylesbury?
oh god, can't stand the guy haha
Jack is he famous. in Aylesbury. ? ever seem him?
When you meet friends you've previously done a least used station with, could you add more info and a link in the description? I recognise the likes of Steve but can never remember from which video!
I was originally on the Little Kimble video (plus one of Geoff's Walk the Tube vids).
lol I'm loving "Sainsburgers"! 😂 stealing that! 😀
Blimey, when the music starts in the video I think it's about to end; so I was kinda surprised at the massive use of it in the video, as well as being surprised at the timer. But oh well, at least there were no speed-up footage this time :)
Superb!
what happened ??? you missed out all the stations from Cholsey to Paddington--- where are Goring and Streatley, Pangbourne, Tilehurst, Reading, Twyford, Maidenhead, Taplow, Burnham.......................
Have you thought about how long it would take to show footage of over 2500 stations..?!
No...??
Well.....
can you please do another video about you going on the Chiltern railway's to high wycombe then to Oxford then last go to London
see episode 27 :-)
jeff does this make sense waterloo to windsor then to clapton junction then honor oak park
tflplayer RBLX Uh you spelt his name and Clapham Junction wrong
ohh don't mention Tesco in GX (as the locals call it) the locals opposed the building from the start...apparently it wasn't posh enough...waitrose would've been far more to their liking 😊
When they were in Oxford I was like. Yep I know that place
'It's not meant for phones' - classic!
Marylebone, my favourite main station in London
You MUST go back to Oxford and ask 'CC' to guide you around and film the whole thing for your other channel, please.
Stephen Murray 100 house points for you! xxx
FYI I did appear later in one of the Least Used Stations series - at Kings Sutton... FWIW :-)
What’s to see in the chilterns? “Lots of hills” d’oh
12:12 it's the law that you have to have a drink at The Turf. If you can find it...
(Used to go there a lot when I lived in Oxford)
I did like the shot after the interview with Steve where you are both waving goodbye; also the transition between him filming the train leaving and then what appeared to be a seamless switch to your footage of being on the train. Nice.
Heyford station. Close, but no cigar. Its the Oxford canal.
Was that ABBA on the saxophone? loved this ep
It certainly sounded like Chiquitita to me!
Great video! How many stations to go?
Noé3151775 As of last night 1775. They're averaging about 34-44 stations a day. There's a counter which is updated each evening on www.allthestations.co.uk. The map updates at 1000 each day www.allthestations.co.uk/map
I can't wait till they get to Helensburgh central my local
7:26 I’ve just noticed this was ABBA’s Chiquitita playing!
did you visit great Missenden it's my local station and it's the home of Roald dahl
They will visit ALL the stations apart from Great Missenden. www.allthestations.co.uk/map/
And the Isle of Wight and Emerson Park.
