God that introduction where Belka starts to invade its neighbors just gives goosebumps. The advancing red arrows, the swelling music. And the desperate last ditch alliance, it’s all so perfect
I love the interviews and the documentary style storytelling. Really adds to the immersion.
Me too I even liked the fact that it was live action which you don't see often in games like this. The only thing that struck me as odd, were the costumes. You'd think that since most of the people interviewed are former or active soldiers, they would be in proper attire.
filipinowhiteboy Well... Its pretty normal really. Since all the people he interviewed are mostly former pilots, it would make sense. The knight is in a formal suit with the interview taking place in his villa. The mercenary on the run is in an abandoned building and wearing shabby clothes. The soldier is wearing casual clothes in a diner. Its supposed to show the people in their normal side and the interviewer probably did this on purpose.

at the age of 12 i made it to mission 18 on ace difficulty, but every time i died i was still enjoying this game even when getting my ass kicked, i will defend this game and its story till the day i die.
isnt that the funny thing about acecombat games? You can get your ass handed to you on any level and still appreciate its music and atmosphere and enjoy it?

Nothing to it, man, it's just that good of a game. That last duel between Solo Wing Pixy and Demon Lord of the Round Table, Cipher, is still one of the the most intense and enjoyable experiences I've had with a video game.

For those who don't know the story and cutscenes changed depending on how you play for example some of these characters may not survive to tell thier story if you hunted them down. And the storyline is unmatched by any similar game ive ever played on any console

White Cipher I dislike Belkan war because the story was too cliche. mercenaries fight war, dude realizes what war is, mercenary goes maverick. There was no real diversity in the game play and the missions all followed the same type of formula.
Squadron Leader (Unsung War) outweighs Distant Thunder (Shattered Skies) because of the story, character development and game play. While Distant Thunder holds more nostalgia value for me, i still think it lacks somewhat in character relevance.

This is what the new generation games lack, A Good Story. It's true that the AAA companies gives us such graphics which makes everything in the game look so real but that is just about it. Old games had focused on the story and game play that we never really realized that the pixels were big and that the characters were boxlike but we still got sucked into the tale they tell that we ended up wanting for more and decided to follow the story by playing new releases. There are new versions of the same game and awesome quality but we can't change the fact that their story is no longer as good as the firsts ones which makes me disappointed.
But now these days they only eant Money and The Kids

awacs told them to break formation. pj i think flew the wrong direction. he moved left when he should've moved right. maybe it was a mistake, or maybe he did it to save cipher.
Kudos for including ALL the different squadrons. I didn't realize it when I played it the first time that this game that it changed which enemy squadrons you encountered based on how you played.
I was sad when Pixy changed sides. But boooy I was really mad when he killed PJ. Reeeeally mad. Like if all of it was real. What a game.
For anyone in the newer generations that watched anime, you may be wondering why Pixy sounds familiar. Well, this is why.

yeah on ace difficulty you get 20 % damage just by getting hit by 1 bullet so if you receive 5 AA gun or fighter bullet you go down smoke and burn, also getting hit by a rocket SAM , enemy fighter you died instantly. Also less rockets and special weapons you could carry , machine gun is not unlimited., more enemy, obstacle on every mission.
but if you S rank Ace dificult , you know you can do anything after that

Still the best Ace combat game for me.
Storytelling style with documentary is really help for the story that occurred in the past.
Galm team is the best among other teams, only fighting with your own wing man (who powered up) is suitable for the final stage.
Enemy team have their own character and story and reason to fight, they are not really the good guy or bad guy (include the protagonist).
The game is hard which is suitable for story that you only engage other aces.
Finished this game (maybe) 30 times and I can’t believe I watched the whole game from the beginning to the end now!

Ace Combat Zero is probably the only game I know of to respectably and tastefully use live action FMV. It's done excellently, in favor of how well it's integrated into the game's narrative. Just about every other game using it comes across as silly.

I really wish you would have shot the gameplay with the standard F-15C. Flying the Wyvern and Morgan makes it easier, but it just doesn't look quite right... Otherwise, I love the way you did this.

2020 coming back to play this on my ps2 was nostalgic. I remember being around the age of 5 or 6 my dad bought this game for his ps2 that he later gave to me and this game always was one id play non-stop. Even now being 18 ill every now and then pull my ps2 back out and play this great game for a little bit of nostalgia.
Man the cinematics were so cool in this game. It adds to the lore. The way the jets scream by and shake the screen. Brilliant presentation.

Just played through the game, I emulated it to run it at 4x the original ps2 resolution- this game was the coolest thing
A great story, almost as good as AC5 and AC04. I can't believe this kind of story hadn't been done before... You can already tell it is good by the name of one of the enemy factions, a group bent on destroying all modernization, the "World With No Boundaries" group.

2018 and yet a tear comes out my eye every time, AC5+Zero deserve a remake ASAP.
So far IMO this game is the best AC. Best story, best battles, best musics and best characters. I probably spent more than 200h before purposefully delete the save game to start again from scratch lol Quite hyped for AC7 too.

If Ace Combat had a game with ww2 planes, the plot would be similar to this one with your character being a regular airmen. You'd start of with biplanes until you'd get your first Russian or American monoplanes like the I16 or hawk, evolving through kittyhawks, corsairs, 109's, yak 9's and zeros through the midgame. At this point you'd be taking on superweapons like Germany's massive siege cannon being guarded by elite Anti air Katyusha rockets (don't ask) and you'd probably get that quintessential tunnel flying mission here. Eventually you'd be up to planes like spitfires and mustangs by the late game, where you'd have to take on B17's with nukes being protected by the enemy aces in me 262's (maybe even with the British meteor if you managed to get lucky or have a new game plus).
Well, we did have em in AC AHL. Specifically the F6F Hellcat and the Japanese Zero.
