I wonder what color GoodReads will choose for next year's reading challenge.
HMMMMMMMMMMMMM
it just needs to be yellow or something. i’m trying to be happy next year.
@ZXzz zzz Uh alright??

Yessss
This is my first year REALLY diving into the world of reading. One of the only goals I have accomplished in 2020 is my reading! I wanted to read 1 book per month and I have surpassed that goal which I am so proud of myself for! I think for 2021 I am going to try and read two books per month, one fiction and one non fiction. ☺️
I am so proud of you!! Adding more reading into your life is such a beautiful addition 💕
Nice goals!
Go you, that's great!
Same!!! I planned to read 12 books this year and I’m so proud of what I actually accomplished! Let’s keep it up! :)
@@ariannelg 🖤 that’s amazing! I guess 2020 was good for something, right?!
You are most definitely cool enough to pull those off!! (this applies to every pair in the video, OMG why are you able to pull off every pair so well!!)
🙈🙈🙈🙈 thanks pal haha
I'm partial to the blue frames! Also, "2020 is about making things happen when they can" is...just...exactly what I needed to hear frankly lol
Also think blue frame!
Yellow frames , funky!!
Yellow glasses! fully achieve that art/kindergarten teacher aesthetic
I felt SO seen when you started talking about how you struggle to read in Spanish. I'm from an Estonian-English bilingual family and even though I've lived in Estonia my whole life I went to an international school up to the age of 11 and pretty much only read in English (and I read a lot as a child) and I feel exactly the same as you about reading in English vs my other language!!! I struggled so much when I switched to an Estonian school and had to start reading literature in Estonian for class (I ended up just reading summaries of the books if I couldn't find English versions most of the time because I couldn't focus on reading at all) and it was honestly a huge part of why I got put off reading in my teens. I do try to occasionally read Estonian books in Estonian now though, because I do want to follow the local literature here and I've found that if I'm really interested in the book (and it isn't particularly difficult or slow) I can get through it and actually enjoy it. So I would definitely recommend trying to read it in Spanish!! Maybe buy it in both languages and if you don't like the Spanish version you can give it to your mum?
You get me!!!!!!!!!! Also that is such a good plan, my mom would definitely read and appreciate it!
@@ArielBissett yay!! good luck with it if you do try the spanish!!!
I struggle with the exact same thing, except with Norwegian. My story is very similar to yours, born in the US but raised in Norway and went to an international school mostly reading and speaking in English. It's soooo hard for me to concentrate on Norwegian literature
You pulled off all of the glasses. My favorite was the black ones with the gold rims; it made you look mysterious and intelligent. Rock them all!
Definitely read Love in the Times of Cholera in Spanish, not only because in my mind you should always try to aim to read any book in the original language if you can (but that's just personal opinion), but specially with Gabriel García Márquez, his greatness comes very much from his prose and the way he writes and I don't think if you can really translate that (I have yet to read an English translation to compare). That being said, I did not enjoy that book in particular lol I prefer A Hundred Years of Solitude way more and!!! if you want to read García Márquez in Spanish but are afraid of big books, you should definitely try Chronicle of a Death Foretold, which is shorter but equally good, and just see if you feel comfortable reading at a slower pace and, in general, if Gabo's style if for you. Love you!!!
I agree! I have only read his work in spanish and it is just amazing. Chronicles of a death foretold is a great short book (I love it) and i'd also recommend A hundred years of solitude over Love in the time of cholera
I read 100 Years of Solitude in English, but now you all are making me want to read it in Spanish even though I'm not good at reading in Spanish anymore.
As a person who has read Gabriel García Márquez in both languages, I highly recommend that you pick up the Spanish version, there's no point to compare, the way the book is told in Spanish is so muy meaningful and beautiful in my personal opinion.
I am SO jealous you can read his stories in the original language! I adore his works and am making my way through his catalogue.
While I read in English and French (though predominantly English), I know there's so much literature I'm missing out on through lack of available translations or just through the process of translation itself :(
I mean if books can't save this year, we're all doomed🤦♀️🤦♀️
True 🤣🤣🤣
If anyone can pull of such a wide variety of frames and styles... it is you, Ariel.
I want to read classics, but I also want to redo my bedroom, so my mom and I struck a deal that for every classic I read out of the 15 she chooses and the 5 that I choose, I get 30 dollars for my room. I've been wanting to get into classics for a while so maybe next year will be the year for me haha! I love the channel, please keep doing what you do Ariel and bringing a bright spot into our days :)
that's so cute! i really recommend reading their eyes were watching god by zora neale hurston, it's my favorite classic and fairly short too so you can get those $30 quickly
Can I just say that your mum sounds incredible! Such a great idea to help you achieve your goals 😊 I hope you find some new favourite classics.
Im starting to read classics too. I realized a few weeks ago that I haven't read or finished a lot of classic books so I want to start reading them. I started with The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and I love it so much so far. I also just started The Hobbit which I've struggled to get through the first couple of chapters for years so hopefully I can finally finish it :P
I loved the ‘instagram glasses’, they looked so pretty on you and the fact that they matched the secret history is just a bonus
In 2021, I'm going to try to read all the books I've owned for more than 5 years!
Same! Maybe it’s because I didn’t go to the bookstore as often, but I made it my mission this to read the older books on my shelf and I want to continue into next year. I find it a similar feeling to checking off a to do list!
Ooh, I like this challenge idea!
I like this challenge idea too, thanks for the idea and good luck to you all!
If you’re not “cool enough” to pull off all of those glasses, i don’t know who is
9:19 Hola, Ariel! Spanish speaker here. My situation is the same but with the languages reversed - I was raised reading books in Spanish, the bookshops sell mostly books in Spanish, etc. However, I've been learning English from a young age, so I was taught to read books in English in order to improve my fluency.
Now, my advice for you, Ariel, is that you should definitely read books in Spanish especially if that is the original language they were written in. BUT, do not (and I repeat) DO NOT start your journey reading books in Spanish with a García Marquez book. For your own sanity. I tried reading one of his books in Spanish and it was so hard for me to keep up with the story, and I speak, listen and read Spanish every single hour of every single day!
In summary, it's totally worth it to read books in the original languages they are written in if you can, BUT start with an "easier" read. Maybe YA or something lighter in terms of content and how poetic the writer is.
Hope this helps! Happy reading nonetheless!
I really like the blue glasses on you! They're quite similar to my current frames, stuck with black ones for ages and it's the perfect introduction to colourful lenses, plus I think the contrast with brown eyes is pretty.
Books have definitely saved my year. I started booktube after going through the hardest year of my life, both because of the general situation of the world and personal stuff. Books are always a source of comfort 💜 Also YES Before the Coffee Gets Cold is one of my favorites I've read this year!
Yes omg yes!! The sun glasses look so good on you 😍 thanks for a great video!
They all look AMAZING & Yes, You can pull them off -- Hands Down! Loved these titles you mentioned - Thanks!
All the glasses look super cool and perfect on you.💖 I personally really liked the blue one🤓
You are seriously so cool Ariel! I can't get enough of your channel! You've inspired me to get back into reading, as well as with fixing up my old house as well!
😊❤👍
I found your channel recently and it's been one of the best things of my year!
YES!!! You are definitely cool enough to pull those funky glasses off!!
The yellow ones are so lovely on you! So fun and bright!
Omg I was just thinking about how much I wished you'd post another video!
am in LOVE with that first pair, the wire rimmed ones!
Before the coffee gets cold is one of my faves. Such an interesting book with really interesting plot devices that I’m obsessed with.
every single pair you put on I was like A LOOK! A FASHION ICON! So to sum up, choose the ones you love bc they all look great on you!
Been binging your content the last few days 💕💕💕💕 thanks for keeping me company 💕
My reading challenge for the last 2 years has been to read books off my shelf! So I have been reading the books that I have just clung onto over the years then passing them on to friends and work mates or the charity shop when I'm done. Once I've read one, I treat myself to a book that I know I will love and treasure forever to fill it's place! I only have a handful left so I will tackle those in 2021 😍
Honestly, you DO pull of all of them. Even the yellow ones. Your face, colouring and hair are perfect of all the glasses. The shades are crazy but they fit you. And the last one, black and gold, are just wow.
I have finished reading all the books I own and as I cannot afford buying more I spend my days on booktube listening to people talk about books. Thanks for the video.
I love you. I grew up with book tube and I think it’s so different now and I don’t watch it as much now but I loved this video and it felt like old times. Thank you and happy thanksgiving
You are cool to pull those off. It looked amazing on you!
i'm from a greek/ scottiish family, and even though i've grown up in greece, i totally feel ya! growing up i almost always read books in english and i only really read greek literature in class where we mostly read thing aloud so everyone is going at a snail's pace lol. i do think it worth reading a book in its original language though. even if it takes a bit longer, the message can be so powerful. loved the video and can i just say, you ROCKED all those glasses !!
I love the wire framed ones!!
All of the glasses looked great. You can definitely pull them off. Least favorite-the yellow. FAVORITE-the Blue and the funky ones you wore after the Blue ones.
YES YOU ARE COOL ENOUGH FOR THE SUNGLASSES!! I like how the metal frames are still light enough to highlight your face (you're really prettyy), while not distracting from you. The blues ones do the same. I hope you take care!
only recently found your channel, instantly in love. Glasses: The first metal pair and the black/gold "too fancy" pair look amazing!!! you rocked them.
I loved how you looked in all the glasses!!
I loooove the black/gold glasses on you!
I think the black and gold glasses suit you very well and look great!
I AUDIBLY gasped when you put on those first (sun)glasses. They are GORGEOUS ON YOU - YOU LOOK SO GOOD IN THEM (don't tell my girlfriend I said that). I also just finished an absolutely remarkable thing and it was ❤❤❤ I loved the way the second book was spun and the pace was so quick so it'll be an incredibly enjoyable breeze to finish.
One of my goals is to read more nonfiction books (philosophy, history, poetry, etc.). I enjoy fiction so much that I rarely pick up anything else out of my home library. But once in a while I find a work of nonfiction that really captures me (My 1980s and Other Essays by Wayne Koestenbaum comes to mind). So I'm making it a goal to read more widely in genres outside of fiction.
Good luck with your writing, and I hope you find some joy in your upcoming change of location.
Ooo the yellow glasses are so fun!
Here's when we knew 2020 would not be as expected. The Reading challenge colour. It was all downhill from there. Had we known that colour was a sign of things to come, could we have prevented this year? Alas, it was not to be.
I love the Secret History. I also love the first wire frames on you!
thank you for posting today i needed motivation to read lol. loved this video❤️❤️
I love love love the sunglasses on you!
Yes Ariel! You are definitely cool enough till pull off the metal frame glasses 🙂
The yellow glasses look great on you! The contrast with your dark hair is super cool!
I find your videos so calming. Discovered booktube when I reignited my love of reading during the March lockdown, and it has got me through! Thank you 💛 (p.s - you are definitely cool enough to pull the glasses off!)
LOVE the yellow glasses
Ariel, those blue frames are stunning!!
This lighting is phenomenal, Ariel. Honesty and aesthetics is happening.
I think the metal frames look beautiful on you!
Ariel, you’re cool and funky enough to pull off anything. Rock those glasses and thanks for the video!
get the sunglasses!!!! they're so cool n they suit u SO well!!! u pull things off by deciding that u can pull them off n thats all it is, bring more doing without worrying into 2021 x
I love the yellow glasses! 💛💛💛
I loved all of them, but the ones (round-I cannot remember what you called them) you were the most unsure of, you could absolutely pull-off!!
Reminds me of the five years that I spent trying to finish a book(The Count of Monte Cristo). A REALLY great story, but it was either life got in the way or I simply put it down one day and forgot it for months. That sense of relief and feeling of accomplishment i got the day i flipped the very last page, VERY NICE!😊
You rock the wire frame glasses!!!
Wire frames look so good! Can definitely pull them off
Love ALL your glasses options, but I'm partial to either the Ottoto Bellona or the blue ones.
I for sure want to read more contemporary YA in 2021. I'm mostly a nonfiction and classic reader, but I found some amazing contemporary YA this year but keep gravitating to my classics and nonfictions.
As a readheaded befreckled (is that a word?) Canadian girl I love Anne of Green Gables and I think you’d really love it as well. I’m so excited for Earthlings! Convenience Store Woman is on track to be my favourite book of the year, and I hope that I’ll like Earthlings just as much. And finally as someone who consistently gets told that she dress like a kindergarten teacher I wholeheartedly endorse those yellow glasses, they are so cool and they look awesome on you!
Ariel I hope you’re doing well, and that the move goes/went ok! I missed your videos :)
Love the yellow glasses!
i've been watching your videos for months now and i just realized i never subscribed are you KIDDING me. you are such a joy and i love your videos wow yes thank u.
At the beginning of the year RUclips decided to suggest me a video of yours and that’s how I got into reading. You were the first booktuber I watched and loved and so far I have read 53 books this year which is ridiculous if I think back and read like 5 per year! Thank you so much and I wish you all the luck for your big move 💛 love from Germany
Wow!!! Nay I love this story!! 🙈🙈
Ahhh your tbrs are always so inspiring :’) I’m absolutely in love with love in the time of cholera and I can’t read Spanish that well but I’m so intrigued by that challenge that I might just have to get it even if it’ll take me a long time
You rock these sunglasses !!
the sun glasses are awsome
You should wear the ~tres chic~ black and gold pair! so studious! what a vibe!
I really like the yellow pair!
Love your Books Unbound Podcast with Raeleen. Some of my 2021 tbr is from your recommendations. It has been great listening to you guys chatting about books. It has made my 2020 better
Aw thank you so much for letting me know!! I love it when people enjoy the podcast! 🙈
LOVE the yellow against your dark hair. Cuuuuute
Loving the yellow one!
I love the yellow glasses!
I would say that reading a novel in the language it was written (when possible) is always the best option! and GGM is such an important writer that I wouldn’t miss the opportunity if you feel confident enough to try it 😇.
First: you are cool, funky, hip, and Instagrammy enough for all of those frames! This year I pivoted my reading goal similarly to yours which was, I stopped pressuring myself to read 2020 releases, stopped reading books out of my comfort zone and focused on reading whatever was making me happy. This year that has meant reaching for rereads, romance, some shorter books and poetry. I think I'll still challenge myself to read 100 books next year because I find that it keeps me reaching for books rather than resorting to social media/things that don't bring me joy.
2021 reading plans are one thing but have you started thinking about the 2021 goodreads reading challenge color?
The sunglasses at 2:50 were a BOP. You absolutely can pull those off.
Glasses at 3:20: The nose rest gets caught in my hair all the time and tends to get dirty in ways that can't get clean.
Glasses at 5:20: I feel like you use yellow enough in your wardrobe to pull these off. Nice nose bridge.
Glasses at 6:46: pretty safe bet. Good nose bridge.
Glasses at 9:45 ok those are the lowkey coolest glasses and yes you can pull them off. Bad nose bridge.
Great video!!! Thank you for posting
Firstly, I'd totally read the book in your first language. I don't do that often enough myself, but it's so rewarding! And knowing that it is not a translation makes it even more special ❤️Secondly, I love your clear glasses, but the metal frame and the blue ones were gorgeous on you, too! Also, loving the cozy lighting in this video ✨
love the yellow glasses and the Ottoto Bellona on you!
you look so pretty with this look!!
Yes! I’ve been waiting for you to upload. You’ve become one of my absolute favorite RUclipsrs this year. Hands down. I wish we could be friends!
Aw thank you so much 🙈 everything has been so hectic with the move: once it settles down I’ll be back to posting more!
All the glasses look good on you!!
Wow, you are truly so so cool!!! So funny and happy, i truly admire you!!
Totally subscribed in a matter of seconds 💕💫
I love all the glasses, especially the black pair and the yellow pair.
I’m also currently reading The Secret History. I’m loving it, but it’s taking me forever!
Thanks to you i inspired to overcome my fear with big book and this year i successfully read A Little Life. The worst part, the book is heartbreaking but the best part, it becomes one of my favorite books. 🥰
happy to see you in my sub box again! i love the blue frames a whole lot
Ariel you're amazing I love what you doing 😘😊
I am also planning on finishing before the coffee gets cold. Your rec BTW.
Heck yes you’re cool enough! Those sunglasses are so rad I want them now lol. 😍
I haven't decided what I want to read next year but some of my goals are to read one more book than this year, read at least one book in portuguese, read more poetry and plays, and start reading some of the books on my TBR list. I also had the idea of reading some of my loved ones favorite books but I'm not sure about it. I'll have to think more about it in two months! For now I have to focus on finishing my 2020 goals!
Definitely cool enough to pull them off! 👍
I love the shades on you - rock em- good luck on your move, hope it goes well
My 86 year old mother in law and myself have been into anne with and e and are now listening to the audiobook (she cannot see well enough to read it) - it’s such a good wholesome story- much needed for the silent generation - I may get her the graphic novel for Christmas since you recommend it so highly - ty
love your videos, read a book in Spanish! Good brain exercise
I may attempt a book haul video but I’m not near as comfortable in front of the camera as you seem to be - you are an inspiration - have a great day!
I also planned on reading the Secret History this year but found I lack the mental energy for big books. I thought all the glasses looked great on you, but I’m a fan of the yellow pair . They just seem so you, very cheerful and artsy.💛
