    I switched to N in 1976, but took a hiatus for education, then work, family, etc and now as I look toward retirement I’m inspired to get back into it. I just cannot get over the quality of your layout and what is feasible and available in N. Back then the real quality was German made, but my instincts are always towards the UK and the pre-Beeching steam/diesel transition, our beautiful stations, gentle landscapes, ornate brickwork and stone, milk churns, fire buckets and a cat on a seat….

      Too kind sir. Snap, I too built in N gauge 40 odd years ago and came back when I got the space and the time a few years ago, kids flown nest etc. I too am coming close to retirement so hopefully more time to work on it. I wish you well in your endeavours, thanks again for kind comment, cheers mike

    It's amazing watching you build this. I pick up so many tips as I'm crap at modelling. What was the railcar and who makes it? Thanks.

      Hi and thanks for comment. It’s a dapol class 121 with the dapol lighting bar fitted. Nice runner as it happens, cheers

    • @ksld

      Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. I use sculptamold as the base on top of the plywood baseboard. Then it’s just painted with acrylic paints. Cheers Mike

    • @ksld
      @ksld  2 года назад

      Hi and thanks for comment much appreciated. I’ve used greenscene mostly spring and summer shades, short and medium lengths which seem ok for n gauge. Cheers mike

    Looks a great layout. As a someone returning to the hobby, I am interested to know what the grey coloured material is on the wooden baseboard top? Is it some sort of foam? Have bought a publication on baseboard construction and it mentions foam as an option. Not sure what the best approach is. In the 80's my father used 'Sundela' on pine bracing.....

    • @ksld
      @ksld  2 года назад

      Hi and thanks for comment, appreciated. I used plywood on 3” by 2” bracing as best to prevent warping and has proved so far to be the case over the last 2 or 3 years. The material on top is unused foam underlay from a laminate floor job, it’s cheap, you can get packs from any diy store and easy to cut and stuck down with pva does help with noise reduction. Hope that helps cheers mike

      @@ksld You could try fitting a resistor in line to drop the current. Maybe a 1K Ohm. With out a bar to hand to measure the drawn current it's hard to work out the right value. Another way would be to cover the bar with a theatrical lighting Gel or diffuse the light with some greaseproof paper.
