Personally it doesnt bother me, I think morally in the film he did nothing wrong, but also it is a significant change in having him make that choice. It does change his character, it takes away weight later on when Harry decides he wants to kill Sirius black, if hes already made a decision to kill someone here. But I see it as self defense and in no way Murder in the film, if a kid is kidnapped or trapped by an adult and finds and uses a weapon to kill them and protect themself, thats not murder.
