I cant believe I got lucky enough to find this movie with the film noir group John Payne, Lizabeth Scott n Dan Duryea in a Western!!!! AWESOME!!!!
The more I see of Lizabeth Scott, the more I realize she was a VERY good actress, not to mention beautiful!!! That is why my Grandmother named my Mom after her, Irene Lizabeth Paris Locher(after she married my Dad) then they named me ELizabeth after Mom',s middle namesake!! I was working in a small electronics factory in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, back in the mid 2000's n one of my co workers Pete was the nephew of Lizabeth Scott n he called her n she sent me a fabulous pic of her next to a giant spotlight in black n white from 1938 autographed to me!!! What a GREAT honour that was to receive!!!

Over a long career spanning almost 50 years, Allan Dwan directed 125 motion pictures, some of which were highly acclaimed, such as the 1949 box office hit, 'Sands of Iwo Jima' with John Wayne. He directed his last movie in 1961 and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Emile Meyer, the sheriff, provided such noteworthy performances as Rufus Ryker in the classic film, 'Shane'.
(If the story of the movie were set in 1882, the requested $5,000 would be worth over $150,500 in 2023.)
Much as I adore Lizabeth Scott, here I would have chosen Dolores Moran. She takes the cake here.

Great cast of characters, funny how "friends" are not always your friends and the best women are sometimes the baddest women. It was good entertainment.

Witnesses unfortunately have a habit of dying just before they can identify the killer . Dan Duryea in great form ; gets up miraculously immediately after being shot down and Payne left holding the baby .
This is one bizarre, incredible plot.
One of the biggest Good Guy Non-jerks in Hollywood History/ Dan Dureya. ( Who made a living playing Jerk's.)
Dan played an epic Jerk, always a great actor.

@@jadakowers590 I didn't like him in his nice guy roles either. Glen Ford could play Jesus or Satan and I'd love him. It all boils down to style. Duryea was Duryea no matter the role, never the character.
