My students must agree with Dr. Siemens. I teach an introductory programming course using Java as the vehicle. The course is not about Java, but more about how you program, so we don't go into detail. The students this year decided to add JTables and JLists to their coursework despite these being neither taught nor required. They used social media to disseminate their finds, created a mutual support network ... and got the grades their inventiveness deserved. Long live connectivism.
