Andre's Esacabar is probably the most famous example his own goal for Colombia during the 1994 WC in their defeat to the USA contributed to their elimination from the tournament and he was later shot to death outside a nightclub
I still remember when news of his death broke. One simple mistake, and he was shot for it. He never had the possibility of rehabilitating himself on the pitch, e.g. by helping Colombia win the Copa América or, in the case of qualifying for France '98, perhaps score the goal that brought Colombia to the knockout stages. In the end, nothing changes the fact that this was cold blooded murder, and that his own goal in the United States was what triggered this murder. And no, even though Andrés Escobar shared the same surname as the long dead Pablo Escobar, he was no relation to Pablo.
Yes, I remember this, sad that the incompetent police and justice system couldn't bring this killer to justice, I still believe it was a hit taken out on him.
Don’t forget the tragic story of Italian striker Erasmo Iacovone, who was tragically killed in a hit and run car accident on the 6th of February,1978. At the time,Iacovone’s team in which he was the captain,Taranto F.C,were equal 2nd in the Italian Serie B and were dreaming of an historic promotion to Serie A. After Iacovone’s death, the Taranto team never recovered from this tragic loss and faded to finish mid-field at the end of the 1977-78 Serie B season and have not come close to promotion to Serie A since. And with the promotion of the Spezia team to Serie A 2 seasons ago,the city of Taranto have the ‘distinction’ of being the largest Italian city never to have a team play in the Serie A.
Another story missing IMO is that of Andrés Escobar, and how he was murdered after returning home. Back in 1994, we thought he was murdered because of the own goal and his surname (though he was no relation to Pablo Escobar), and I still feel that was the case still today. However, apparently his national team manager at the time, Francisco Maturana, said he was likely at the wrong place at the wrong time, but I don't buy that. Not association football, but in the NFL there was a defensive back named Pat Tillman, who joined the US Army after 9/11, putting his career on hold. He did tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, joined the Army Rangers special forces, and was killed in a friendly fire. Had he fallen in combat it would be one thing, but being killed in a friendly fire incident makes his death even more tragic.
@@qkomodo9098 That's very disrespectful. A man got accidentally killed by his own comrades, and you come up with this? You should be ashamed of yourself.
Tillman story is so upsetting. Military tried to cover up how it happened, and lied to his family privately and publicly too. Makes it even more suspicious that he was regularly writing to his brother about how illegal the Iraq war was too…
Pat Tillman’s death is made even more tragic when you realize that he believed the Iraq invasion was illegal and he was vehemently against the atrocities happening in the war. During the friendly fire incident, Tillman was shot three times in the head from less than 10 yards away, then members of his unit burned his body armor and personal notebook. Members of his unit also lied to his family at his memorial service, it didn’t come out till much later that his death was by friendly fire. Not only was Pat Tillman’s death tragic, it was also incredibly suspicious. The official report on his death also noted that was no evidence of enemy fire on the scene and no other member of the unit had been hit. That report also notes that army attorneys tried to hold off a criminal investigation, while army doctors said the wound suggested murder. Anyways, something about the tragic story of Pat Tillman doesn’t line up and as usual the US Army acted unethically.

Arnold Peralta ex Rangers midfielder was shot 20+ times a few years back in Honduras
The timing of this upload is eerie seeing as Anthony le Tallec could have easily become just that - a footballer who was tragically killed - earlier today.
Glad he wasn't
The moron was looking for toddlers as horrific as it is.
Okay but when do we get 7 players who untragically died
Very surprised to not see Daniel Correa on this list given how brutal and cold that one was, but once again another great video 👍
Junior Malanda of Wolfsburg was definitely going to be a huge player. Car crash at 20. Awful.
what about ex rangers player Arnold Peralta died after being fatally shot outside a shopping mall in his hometown of La Ceiba on 10 December 2015, at the age of 26.[17] He was hit by eighteen bullets, and police ruled out robbery as a motive.
Laurie Cunningham could have got a mention, Justin Fashanu, That Colombian player who played for Birmingham City maybe a Part 2 Christian Atsu to. Cunningham was a brilliant player and a pioneer in England playing for West Brom died in a Car Crash in Madrid.
As a South African fan can I just commend how you really do cover football worldwide
Please make a part 2 with the suggestions in the comments.
Ive heard of Ebosse. Bad what happened to him
Rip to all 🙏
No, f the Palestinian gunman, he engaged in gunfire whilst the IDF protected worshippers at Joseph's Tomb.

@@gadaboutfootball9535still RIP. He was a talented player who made wrong decisions. Doesn’t mean he deserved to perish. RIP to him and everyone affected in that conflict ♥️
@@gadaboutfootball9535 So he was taking a leaf out of the IDF's playbook then. They enjoy attacking worshippers in religious places. And little kids.
@@bababababababa6124 Its not a conflict, its a massacre. Open your eyes. They kill hundreds of Palestinians including defenseless children in exchange for a dozen Israeli deaths.
I am extremely so in tears while watching this video and REST IN PEACE to all of them and we must never ever forget them, good friends!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
all of them is a bit of an overstatement considering the fact ahmed daraghmeh is a terrorist
Except Daraghmeh, you mean. Dude was in Hamas. Not a good guy. Got what was coming to him.
That English copper who murdered the footballer could be a Pierluigi Collina lookalike now his Police career is down the shitter, why not?
I will not be putting my streak comment on this video out of respect for the departed
Maybe a topic for the future will be the footballers who unfortunately died on the pitch 🤷🏾♀️
A much darker topic than we're used to from Alfie
alfie we just won the nedbank cup last week
RIP atkinson, murdered.
The story of Farul Constanța romanian champions this season winning their first (or maybe second?) title.
Club owned, run and managed by romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi, a native of the city of Constanța.
Youngest champions in Europe this season (average players age), important contribution (some of the vital) from: 2 players born in 2005, one in 2006,
1 in 2003 and 3 in 2002 - all products of the club academy.
Came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in the decisive match against Gigi Becali's team FCSB(who has a claim to Steaua Bucharest history).
I mean.... Re Cecconi sounds like a justifiable Darwin award winner frankly... can't be too upset about someone getting killed by their own sheer idiocy.
I am surprised that Andres Escobar isn't on this list at all
Alfie repeatedly said in the video that he wanted to focus on lesser-known stories, and Escobar is probably the most well-known murdered footballer of all time.
I think there was English player who emigrated to Australia and become serial killer, the name escapes me but I think he's the only baller to ever be a serial killer, he was a pro playing in div.1 at the time around ww1.
18:19 You call Beatrice the "son" of a local pie maker, before referring to her as his wife in the next sentence.
19:30 You also say that "the judge gave Ball a death sentence", but Ball was already dead. Presumably you meant Stag.
Great video overall though!
Joe Gaetjens - I think maybe you've spoken of him before, this is a really important one.
Romero must be the biggest troll that any club had suffered from. Especially when he ended up both killing one of Torino's greatest ever players & sending that club into financial ruin.
When are we getting a list of players who were killed but un-tragically?
"Tragically" is there just to give emphasis.
What is the name of the song in the background?!
Darude - Sandstorm
Surprised you haven’t made a video on racism in the La Liga - tho there seems to be a rise of hate all across the European football
LMAO. He ignored institutional racism against Russian Football Federation by FIFA last year.
@@FlamingBasketballClubI’m sure he’ll make a video about Spain, Italy and Russia soon. Hate in football across Europe is growing out of control
@@bababababababa6124 Growing out of control? It has always been there
It's not about Israel, so it's not worth it.
Back into the '80's, if you got to see La Liga highlights, there were openly fascistic symbols emblazoned on flags at certain La Liga matches on a weekly basis. It's not a new thing and Alfie's had years to cover it. He prefers softer targets.

Any context on the photo on the 08:00 mark?
The photo showing Orthodox Jews holding Palestinian flags.
