    One of the best, detailed tutorial for Blender Grease Pencil I've seen for 2.8. You should change the title to "Detailed Introduction To Grease Pencil - Showcase: Character Turnaround" or something like this :-)

    I am new to Blender/Grease Pencil and I need help. Please read. Let's say I draw an apple in my "RED" file. Then I draw a banana in my "YELLOW" file. Now, I want to move everything into my "GROCERIES" file. So in "RED" I can copy paste, and I can even use Duplicate. But, moving between files doesn't work at all. How do I consolidate my drawings into one file? Or is this a Blender thing, where every new file needs new drawings? Like should I have a mega file of all my drawings/animations?

  • @beerus_sama7454
    @beerus_sama7454 5 лет назад

    I thought ya were gonna turn around the character from backside to front side animation, like in animate cc/flash. Animate cc gives much more flexibility than blender in 2d. Blender is perfect for 3d.probably I understood the title wrong.

    • @wernerhiemer406
      @wernerhiemer406 5 лет назад

      I think thats a technical term miss understoodment. Turn around is what this form of character concept is called as for having to explain the design of the character in development. What you had in mind by reading the title I would call a turntable presentation of whatever object in whatever form (greasepencil, mesh). Or in the olden days it would just shrunken in x direction and expanded to look like it turns. Well then it just worked for coins or cards.

  • @juliandarley
    @juliandarley 5 лет назад +2

    thanks for this, Paul! it's a great intro to the new Grease Pencil, as well as useful for the character turnaround.
    i was a bit puzzled at 12:56 - did you import the materials from the blend file you kindly supply on patreon?
    also, at 6:40 it's important to realise that there has been a switch to Draw mode from Object (you may have mentioned it, but there is a cut there).
    one final thing i noticed that even with Load UI switched on, blender doesn't remember the 3D View object display method, so it always has to be switched to Render. small point, but it can be disconcerting and made me think at first that the World colour needed tweaking.

    • @PCaggegi
      @PCaggegi  5 лет назад

      Hey Julian! Yes I imported the materials from another file to save time. I outlined how you can make your own, but you can absolutely append these same materials from the free file available. They're just my digital version of a greyscale set.

    • @PCaggegi
      @PCaggegi  5 лет назад

      Yup, the world setting is something I wrangled with. It's best to be in rendered view, and have your world color setting on a light color.

    • @juliandarley
      @juliandarley 5 лет назад +2

      @@PCaggegi perfect! i have appended your materials and now can carry on, which is great. part of the problem is that when learning something as complex as blender i find it is important to follow exactly what the tutor says, and in this case the word was 'import', which is where i got stuck since i had never appended materials before, and don't know enough about it. with step frame analysis i now see that you land on Append for three frames (then there is a cut), not import, but i missed that before.
      anyway, it looks like one can append anything from a blender file (and probably link to anything too). i shall now make sure i get a deeper understanding of appending (and linking)!

    • @juliandarley
      @juliandarley 5 лет назад +1

      @@PCaggegi the world setting and rendered view are both good ideas, the only problem for someone unused to working in rendered mode and who uses the most up-to-date nightly build is that i have to save and re-open afresh each day, so if a setting isn't saved in the file metadata, then it won't show up when i reopen it. i don't see why the 3D View display method shouldn't be in the file metadata, but it doesn't seem to be. with the rise of Eevee, i think this should be captured in the file. maybe it will be possible to write an add-on that will do this.

  • @CharlesCorbett
    @CharlesCorbett 5 лет назад

    Could you do a video a bit more in depth with the filling? It tends to be a bit wonky and there isn't a lot of good coverage for using it well (fill tool and other methods) - especially with several colors etc and common pitfalls (fills covering other strokes).

    • @PCaggegi
      @PCaggegi  5 лет назад

      Hi Charles, I am planning on revisiting the Grease Pencil in a future tutorial. I currently have a backlog to get through for the next couple of months, so hopefully by that time, 2.80 official will be released, and I can tackle a more in-depth look on the updated tools. It does help to think of this like vector painting vs bitmap painting. There are some amazing artists who handle this tool better than I ever could, but I am willing to give it a go!

      Short Answer: There isn't one, and no.
      Longer Answer: Why would you want to? The point isn't to copy stroke for stroke, the point is to learn the technique, then go draw your own characters. Besides, grease pencil now is very different to when this was released. I might do an update at some point, but I am currently on a three month contract, sorry. :(
