*The Pied Piper is a 1942 film in which an Englishman on vacation in France is caught up in the German invasion of that country, and finds himself taking an ever-growing group of children to safety. It stars Monty Woolley, Roddy McDowall and Anne Baxter. The film was adapted by Nunnally Johnson from the novel of the same name by Nevil Shute. It was directed by Irving Pichel.*
This Edmondson me of the heroic acts of the late great Marcel Marceau who is well known fir saving hundreds of children. They should make a movie about marceau
They won't. The Anglo-speakers hate the French, mainly because it is a more beautiful language, but not as beautiful as Welsh, Irish, Scots Gaelic, or Bretagne. And the Anglo-speakers do suffer from a massive inferiority complex. 🗼🗼🗼🗼🗼
Lovely movie. Monty Wooley always raises my mood. This wasn`t the only time Monty and Roddy appeared together in a film. Thank you very much for sharing :) Big Thumbs Up ❤
A real look at the reality of war and history. Excellent film! Monty Woolley is always a delight and easy to see an early Roddy McDowell and a true actor!
Thank you for posting this most wonderful movie. I had seen it some year ago, but could not resist watching it again with two of my favorite actors, Monty Wooley and the youngster Roddy McDowell.
Not one I've ever heard of. Looking forward to seeing it and getting an explanation as to why he was on holiday in a country at war... one his own country was involved in. kerk
One of the few movies that didn't use the war as a convenient excuse for making films. This one had both a really good story, characters developed nicely plus a real look at the war. Woolley was at the top of his game, with Baxter doing fine in French. Roddy was so much better than 'stars' like Shirley Temple, IMO. Anna would have been fine here as a Jew, but certain places would make being German a liability, especially among kids. AND they saved the Kitty (Giorgio)- yay! TY!

Beautiful classic 😊
This is a fantastic film. An amazing story. Although it would be difficult to top...it would make for an interesting Spielberg
version.
Thank you for this film, excellent cast, Roddy McDowall was a born actor, tahnk you :) :)
😢 this is so good, mellow Monty with rescued children.

Couldn’t bear it with the scratchy sound, sorry.
A truly appalling film and an insult to the memory of Nevil Shute.
The producer of this rubbish should be ashamed of his work.
How is it appalling because it diesnt shiw vioence or the brutality of war ?
