My brother was prevented from attending the Devin Townsend concert tonight, but asked if I would take over his ticket. It was special for me as I had just returned home from Canada today, after doing 2 ski races there at the weekend (Gatineau Loppet 2 x 50 km. It's one of the Worldloppet series of 20 ski races over at least 42 km, around the world, on cross-country skiing⛷️). But even though I was tired after the flights - it was really worth it!🤘🎉😃 Devin Townsend is new to me as an artist, but my brother introduced him to me with 'Moonpeople' sent to me on Spotify half a year ago. It's right up my alley!😁 It's the first time I've been to a concert with him, and he was absolutely amazing.👍 Devin was in complete control!🤩 What a voice he has!💪 Big kudos also to the other guys in his fantastic band; Mike Keneally🎸🎹🎤, Darby Todd🥁 and James Leach🎸!
As someone who has followed Devin’s career since ‘97, I always find it interesting to consider the perspective of a newcomer to his music. Have you delved into his back catalogue?
@@MegawattThank you for your interest! For now I've been concentrating on his latest album 'Lightwork'. I will be on holiday with my musician brother, who introduced me to Devin, during Easter. I'm sure that together we will delve more into his material then. I have become very fond of his 'Lightworker', where his great vocals really come through. He really is a skilled musician who uses piano, synth and guitar in the structure of the song, which he builds up swellingly and powerfully together with his wonderful vocals! If you can recommend some songs similar to 'Lightworker', I would like to go ahead with them.👍❤️🎺
@@MegawattThen I listened to your recommended songs. "Kingdom" was intense and I need a little more time on it. "The Fluke" was very good and more up my street. "Triumph" was a masterpiece! A lot of variety during the song, and showed what class Devin has in the soundscapes he creates. Cool that your three song recommendations come from albums back to 2012, 2006, and 2001. On the way forward with Devin's music, I will definitely first listen more to the album from 2006, "Synchestra", where "Triumph" comes from. Thank you!😃🎺

"This will be a tight little quartet consisting of Dev, me, Darby Todd on drums (who plays in Martin Barre’s band and has also played with The Darkness, Alan Price, Gary Moore, Robert Plant, Robben Ford - a truly versatile player) and James Leach on bass (a ferocious player, from the hugely influential band Sikth). I haven’t played with Darby and James yet but in a few days we start rehearsals, and I expect things to just explode.
