Marcelo Bielsa is regarded as one of the most influential managers of all time and he hasn't really won anything. Having said that, I have no doubt that Arteta will win more silverware.
You forgot Jose Mourinho, our tactics in big games are straight out of his playbook! I also think it’s no coincidence, Jose ball was always Peps biggest challenges throughout his career. Jose was also the first to say he sees what Mikel is doing tactically and stated Arsenal will be there in a couple of seasons he knew it before most game recognises game!
James, you surely need to be given your flowers for this. You are so good with such analysis. You have become my go to guy when I wish to listen to something analytical about Arsenal in particular & Football in general. Absolutely smashed it with this breakdown of Artetas style and thought process. Big up, my man. Keep it going! ❤
The first assistant Arteta hired was Steve Round who was David Moyes assistant at Everton for many years which allowed Arteta to fully comprehend Moyes style of play. Then after he had Freddie Ljunburg as assistant and Edu who where both invincible winners under Wenger who Arteta can learn from . Don't forget about Arteta's time at Ranger FC when he was young which would have taught many lessons in Scotland. Finally it doesn't hurt that your best friend is Alonso who just won the bundasliga who you can always have long discussions and exchange idea anytime you want
Loved this video. Fantastic insight. I think what separates this channel to others, is that your don't just commentate on what is happening. You go back and look at patterns/statistics etc. to show these intriguing comparisons. Great content!
Now that I think about it, Sir Alex Ferguson was truly ahead of his time. Who knew that a cast of tall, physically dominant players who understood their roles and are also technically gifted would dominate a league. Mikel is taking this to another level. (And I hated all of his teams with a passion as an Arsenal fan)
You are right. Actually when you make the Everton comparison. The second striker position such as Felliani and Tim Cahill is quite similar to the Havertz profile and gameplay.
Way more people need to see this video...way more. The only thing imo missing is the importance of versatile players having the ability to execute in multiple roles. Kai Havertz is a prime example of that, so many people want to pigeon hole him into a position. The thing is that from match to match it will vary. There is this discussion of Calafiori vs Timber when we will find out someday that Calafiori won't always be at LB and Timber won't always be at LB either. They'll also end up starting matches together....watch this space. Where does that philosophy come from? The beginnings of everything for Arteta...the great Johan Cruyff. Crazy talk you say? Look at Heaven (CM/DM to CB) and Lewis-Skelly (CM/CM to LB), both currently being trialed in different positions from when they first played in the academy. All the academy players are now being taught this.....very similar to the La Masia way of things.
lol, at the start of last year, I felt that our defensive shape out of possesioin was inspired by Simeone, vs Tottenham that feeling came back, but it makes sense now.
Thanks James, honestly i have been thinking of how our performance yesterday reminds me of Diego Simione led Athletico Madrid. Interresting how i wanted Diego Simione after wenger left, to then see Arteta implement his tactics alongside wenger/pep style, creating a hybrid of both systems is amazing. Arteta is a perfect student and amazing manager. Looking forward to the game against city from a tactical standpont. By the way , the second best achievement to winning the league is beating city at home. Imagine the respect and fear it will create on other opposition in the league. The boy deserves it, hopefully we beat the 115 team on Sunday. COYG
Haven’t watched video yet….. But please James, you have to give a mention to The late great Walter Smith. First manager to take Arteta to the UK. Surely Arteta learned so much from Walter Smith.
Pep and Arteta have similarities but they are so different. I've said this for about 6 months, Arteta is a mix of all the managers he's worked under. He's taken a bit of Moyes, a bit of Wenger and a bit of Pep and mixed it together
Very interesting! Also from interviews Arteta tells us how he follows the best managers, so he is still cherry picking novel ideas from other managers even today.
Wenger was nurturing the players to channel and flow their natural abilities it's just that the mentality and discipline to trust the process was lacking...Arteta has the ingredient to address that flaw
What’s your favourite thing about Arteta’s Arsenal?
Restored pride and honor.
Passionate
Saliba and the Rolls Royce defense.
He's willingness to evolve and not be stuck on a philosophy
He makes his dreams a reality.
the biggest myth is that Arteta copies Pep.
Exactly people only say this because he brought man city players
Arteta borrows quite heavily from Moyes but reactionaries like Lee Gunner and Troopz were never one for deeper analysis.
So true…💯
Yeah, like the pundit (don’t know his name) who said yesterday that Arsenal plays the exact same way as Man City 🤣

The world of football doesn’t give Arteta his flowers. Because they think only trophies 🏆 matter. For a first job he is so good.
He's gonna be here a while, a we will win something for sure
Marcelo Bielsa is regarded as one of the most influential managers of all time and he hasn't really won anything. Having said that, I have no doubt that Arteta will win more silverware.
Trophies will come!
Successful managers weren't talking about processes in the 90's/2000s for a reason...they were too busy winning.
Trophies are the most important. He’s won one trophy in 5 years. That’s no where near good enough given that he has spent £800 million.

Very true!!

Yes great additions all these points!!
Excellent thumbnail James
I quite enjoyed this episode, 11 minutes of goated reasearch and analysis IMHO.
Ahh really kind, thank you!

James with the spiderweb wall connecting managers and arteta like he’s trying to solve a crime from the 90s 😜
😂

I've been refreshing my RUclips waiting for your video. Thank you James. You and Alex are my go to for everything Arsenal
Really kind thank you!!
Another great video James - giving great insight. Really appreciate the work you put in
Thank you so much!
Video is bang on! Thought you may say Mourinho too. Simeone was slightly unexpected but very well explained!
You are right. Actually when you make the Everton comparison. The second striker position such as Felliani and Tim Cahill is quite similar to the Havertz profile and gameplay.
Exceptional content. Mind blown with the Simeone influence.
Very interesting and insightful video James! Keep up the good work :))
thank you so much! Will do!!
Great insight James! Hard work is always appreciated with these videos!🔥
Thank you so much I really appreciate it

Glad you are feeling better...unless this is pre-recorded then get well soon😅
Really original and insightful content James, big up
Thank you!!
Totally agree esp on Moyes & Pep
Great analysis bro. Nice vid ❤️🤍
Thank you so much!!

I really hope tets can deliver the silverware. He so whole heartedly deserves it

Abit of a history video show today. Drier than the desert.
Very interesting! Also from interviews Arteta tells us how he follows the best managers, so he is still cherry picking novel ideas from other managers even today.
Honestly think he's a fan of Sarri and Bielsa too 😅
Wenger was nurturing the players to channel and flow their natural abilities it's just that the mentality and discipline to trust the process was lacking...Arteta has the ingredient to address that flaw
Arteta is a Hybrid manager.
Pep is pooping his pants now
big up
Why do u have Lee as your profile... Ewwwrr 🤢
Arsenal is always mis-profiled by being compared to City
