It's a small world. Having trouble with my 300D rough starting. Figure it's the glow plugs, so I look up a video to help me diagnose the issue. Turns out the video is made by the guy I purchased the vehicle from a few years back. Thanks for the help.
Thank you for this vid, I have an '85 with 140K miles and I am going to take her to 500 if I get half a chance. I am a novice, just trying to figure out how to be more self-sufficient, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Hello, I replaced the glow plugs on a OM602 '91 but the engine still doesn't start. No glow plug light on the dashboard either. Could it be the relay that needs to be replaced? If so, how to replace it? Thanks
Excellent video. I've got an "82 300D maself... SUPER difficult cold starts... 1 glow plug isn't reading ANY ohms though. I even took it out and tested it out of the motor and still didn't get a read at all (did get a reading on all the others (1 read about 6 ohms which I'm going to replace). What I don't understand is what it means when it's not reading any ohms at all - is that also an indication? May it necessarily indicate faulty wiring also - when the relay tests good?
If you're checking from the glow plug relay to ground and read "OL", this is an open circuit. Next ohm test the glow plug and circuit separately. An open glow plug has failed and must be replaced.

Very informative video. Thank you for the effort.
Better lighting and a tripod would take it to the next level.
Gorgeous example of a w123 too btw.
Thanks a lot.

I have a 1987 Merceded 300D W124, and wondering if the connectors in the Relay have retaining clips as they don't slide out easily.
Excellent video.

What if I don’t get any reading. The 2 on the left don’t get any reading on mine
No reading meaning "OL" on the meter means an open glow plug. Open glow plugs have failed and need to be replaced.
What if it is still a little bit rough starting after changing all 4 glow plugs? Bad relay?
Check valve lash. This needs to be performed on a regular basis. Forgot the service interval, I do it about once a year.
@@SIUAutomotiveVideos how do you check valve lash?.
