Horn sounds as good as before, but without Linda Allan & Debi Doss the whole song sounds incomplete imo. Linda's voice was distinctive every time the song was performed live, RIP.
It isn't bad, but it's pretty crazy at just how much of a difference the backup singers can make. It definitely doesn't sound the same without Debi Doss and Linda Allan.
these 3 singers are totally awesome though! I think it's really interesting the way their american accent shifts the emphasis from the word video to the word star. "Star" with a hard r instead of "stahhhh." the little differences like that are what make it a spontaneous live performance.
Trevor is an outstanding musician! His talent is far and beyond most. For some reason this arrangement sounds much slower and with less energy. Very sad to hear about Linda. Her and Debi helped make this song magical. The backup vocalists on this version had tough shoes to fill but they all did a very good job.
I think it's really interesting the way their american accent shifts the emphasis from the word video to the word star. "Star" with a hard r instead of "stahhhh."
The song is from 1979 but with the music (the use of the synthesizer) and with the lyrics (about the videos that were just born) anticipates the 80s. But the music and the radio, were no destroied from the videos, but from the technology and computers that introduced autotune, correction of any small errors in the recording room) etc.
truly a classic song sounds even better live as all good bands do i remember this song whilst in school still gets me every time you cant beat a true live band
true that. hate to say it, but we all get old. and tired. and he sounds like it. also, the princes trust venue probably had better equipment, engineers and sound guys and such.
@@richardornelas2319 You're not wrong, but it should also be mentioned that there were at least three times as many musicians on stage for the 2004 performance. There was even a string section, for goodness sake. It's harder for 8 players / singers to sound 'lush' than 20-odd.
I didn’t realize what Allen gave to the song, I was watching the 2004 version and her interlude makes the song. It was so good to see her singing in the 2004 version, I felt there was a back story to it, not realizing she had passed on . Seeing her singing 25 years after the release just felt very right! I envision a story about her a back up singer , her story about the song something like that

+ptrres In this version, there was a new short verse added that was not in the original version. Between 2:51 and 3:05, I hear "Video killed the radio star. He hit him on the head with his own guitar. He tried to run away but didn't get far. That's how video killed the radio star." Also, regarding the lyrics that begins at 2:22, you posted "Look I"ll play with my VCR", but I hear "Put the blame on VCR". Thanks for posting the lyrics. Now I can sing along when I watch this video.
+BroadcastJohn Thanks for your comment! I'm not a native English speaker, and I wonder I hadn't paid attention to it. That was my purpose when I copied the lyrics: to sing along. Regards!
+ptrres Judging by your previous postings, I never would have guessed you were not a native English speaker. I only wish I could communicate in a foreign language as well as you do with English. I am impressed!
Can't hear Creme's guitar...it's too far down in the mix...and I'm not sure there was an acoustic guitar on the original. It's so far down in the mix here he might just as well be having a cup of tea.
I've searched the comments but cannot find my answer... What are the name of the background singers? They are all very good. I agree they're not as good as the prince's trust 2004 version, but still pretty damn good.
Linda Allan's voice was so beautiful, this song can't be the same without her.
why she's not in this one?
@@zacariasblanco9738 she passed away :(
@@cynthiakerr8480 she may rest in peace and yeah is just not the same without her voice
So true.
We still have Debbie Doss.
Horn sounds as good as before, but without Linda Allan & Debi Doss the whole song sounds incomplete imo. Linda's voice was distinctive every time the song was performed live, RIP.
The Princes Trust in 2004 was the first time that this song was ever played live since it was first recorded in the studio.
Linda passed away?
Agree 100%.
Spot on mate.
Agree, kind of sounds the same but doesnt sound the same or how it should as we knew it....
Hard to beat the Prince's Trust version from 2004.
That version was a true classic
correct. that one is iconic
Yes, that was a superb live performance, the best one by far.
That's because that version is even better than the original one.
Indeed. This is still good. 👍
Well done to everyone involved in making this song.
Fun fact - this was the first ever video to be on MTV back in the day.
Got to be one of my favourite songs.
It isn't bad, but it's pretty crazy at just how much of a difference the backup singers can make. It definitely doesn't sound the same without Debi Doss and Linda Allan.

It’s not just the singers. The tempo changed, the main lead vocal is not mixed to be front centre… it sounds awful in my opinion!
Thanks to Mr. Horn for this perfomance. Thanks to ACM for posting
The sound Ash Soan gets out of that drum kit is just perfect.
Gerald Smyth sounds hood to me except rack tom...sounds dead like a cardboard box

The first ever song played on MTV !!
Wolfie Really? That's oddly appropriate then.
really? I didn't know that, oddly enough 1st song I ever remember listening to

That's right!✌😎👍
@@Holobrine I think it was on purpose though.
Excellent job Mr Horn
Absolutely amazing. Love the clarity of the sound.
One of the best versions.
BEATIFULL.
A sturring modern rendition. Thank you.

It's good but not as good as when he did it back 2004 in the princes trust
that version is incredible
True, but that was like 10 years before this performance

TOTALLY AGREE - that performance was better than the original IMO
Great absolutely great 🎵
The original background singer Linda Allan (the brunette one) sadly died in 2015.
Goosebumps ! That's awesome , even better than the original recording.
I was gonna say the same thing, lol. Such a clear crisp impeccable sound
The original recording sounds like ass. Thank God the Buggles came along and redid it the right way.
trevor youre the man
Not the same without Linda Allan.

I agree 100 per cent her vocals were superb r.i.p Linda allan
Why is bassguitar so muted? especially at the beginning
spec beau because ACM students probably were in charge of the live sound
Love this song 🕺🕺
I'm in love with that girl with the red dress. His voice comes to my heart. I ask if I want to marry
Yeah, you and everybody else.
Still sounds as good as it did in 79 ,,, it's one of those timeless tunes , it's a "get up n go song " , full of Hi N R G
Can't get enough bass.
Tommy vercetti remember the name!
rockstar north intro

Total Quality !!
Essa música me revitaliza aos 61. Parabéns para nós!!!😊
sorry about this but the keyboards just let this down so much. Mr Downes absence well and truly noted
Chris G He’s busy touring with Yes, only one original female background singer left, sadly, things change
Great song . Different backing singers, but still good! ☺😍👍
Great song.💃❤
lm 💘 this song
Great from 1979 ..first week in 6th form ..on coach to school heard this along with Rainbow .. and as good as elo😅
Great track
Not as good as th live 2004 version. Miss the original background voices...close but not as good. Rip.
He’s still alive !

Les trois femmes ont une très jolie voix ❤
Very nice! Thank you

Alma d artista não envelhece. .
This was the first video on MTV if I remember right . I also think Mexican Radio was next. Lotta beer and life since then so i could be wrong.
I love this, this is great
I live this song. Do powerfull.
The superb Ash Soan on drums.
Great stuff, love this track
love it
sure did
Superb drumming.
Lyrics of this song are so silly. However the whole production is magnificent. I can’t stop watching it.
great job with an already great classic. I love the updated sound.
I really like this cover to the classic 70's 80's tune.
Cover song? This IS the original singer, Mr Buggles himself.. Trevor Horn!
Espectacular me encantó, saludos desde Chile!

Creme and Horn together! Not enough stage for that amount of talent....

Sorry been a bad day , heard this on radio today and it was the last straw .
that bass tone 🤤
Classic!✌🥰👍🤟😎👍
That bass is out there
these guys are great
Excelente.
because the back singers were orignal in 2004
Where's the piano solo at the end?
Interesting how different this sounds to the 2004 Prince's Trust version.
Did they add lyrics prior to the final chorus?
Perhaps!
Awesome!
Is it me or does the tempo change like 16 times?
Perfeito
Awesone
Love it
Superb
Need paul Robertson on drums. He s a legend

Ladies? Pronounce the "R".
great !!!
Nice song
Roztomilý. Skvělý pop.
does anyone know the name of the chorist dressed in orange? her voice is heaven!
Good but shame that there are no original backing ladies.
backing GRANNIES at this stage !! This suits me fine CLASSIC enjoy the NEW YEAR!!
The original backing lady Linda Allan has unfortunately died in 2015.
I think every band should cover VKTRS. I like the Presidents of the United States version on Guitar.
Does anyone know who the women in the choir are?
super !
Backing singers are superb
Not as good as Linda and Debi.
@@timequest9802 Maybe not but Trevor wouldn't have any duffers in the squad!
Nah they cut 'star' too short every time.
Jajajajaja todo por ver really one player
Linda Allan RIP.
the left singer lady with the peach top......wow ;)
what a juvenile song.
Did they not have any other hits ?
Fuckin passionless drummer
Not in my opinion Juan, not every musician dislays passion with body movements/facial gestures or whatnot. Sounds damn good to me, rock solid.
Who's on Drums in this.... ?
Man, this is a GREAT cover. Bravo
Not a cover.....original guys (excepts the broads singing).
Haha sweet! I had no idea. This is fantastic
Watch the original video...Trevor Horn (dude singing with the glasses)...same guy! :D
Well, there's actually only Trevor Horn here that is from the Buggles.
Yes, the original singer, Trevor Horn! Mr Buggles himself!! LOL
This rendition seems sluggish? Or is that just my ear?
Either ash is too laid back or the band is rushing
in 3:36 you can hear The heat of tne Moment (Asia) Intro
