Peter Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite op.71a is brilliantly performed by the Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Volker Hartung. Taped during their annual concerts in Hamburg and Wuppertal, Germany.
Enjoy!
Beautiful. It always reminds me of the magical time after midnight on Christmas Eve, when all is completely quiet; the fire in the hearth is dying out; the presents have all been been set out under the tree and and you've taken to the best chair by the fireplace, sipping a hot drink, entranced by the the embers, thinking about Christmases long ago and loved ones long passed but now very much alive and with you, enveloped in this timeless reverie by Tchaikovsky.
One of my all-time favorites.
I get a feeling that is hard to explain from Tchaikovsky's Arabian Dance.
It's like a sense of wonder, dread, anxiety, hope, damn...like everything.
The greatest single piece of music ever composed under 5 minutes. This epitimizes why Tchaikovsky is the greatest of them all. His versatility is incomparable.
borrowed from Georgian folk lullaby song.
Absolutely agree-beautiful!
This song sounds like retribution, the calm before the storm. The strive, the struggle, the preparation, the anticipation. It's eerie, ominous, but beautiful and magnificent. It's delicate, in a hard way, if that makes sense. Sounds like fighting for what we believe in and what we love.
Tempo is delicious. I think this is the only piece of music that features a tambourine that sounds sad.
You are absolutely right.
Tchaikovsky Arabian dance is based on the melody of Georgian lullaby.
when i was young, like 2/3 my mother used to show me 'Fantasia'. This song i always remembererd and after 20 years i have found it again.. For a moment my life stops as i dwell in good memories
The sound quality of this recording is sublime.
By far the best version of this piece on RUclips! So seductive, so exotic, absolutely flawless...It conjures up images of domes and minarets silhouetted against a blue desert night.
Christ this music is absolutely phenomenal .... How far humans have come ... To design and create musical instruments and then write and perform pieces like this is just something else x
This melody was borrowed from the Georgian folk lullaby song.
It's the best part of Nutcracker. It's incredibly magic...
The only video I can listen with full volume...
I love this melody in the bass clarinet
C'est magique...
This is such a hauntingly romantic sound. Thanks for putting it up.
The first time I heard this I was at my girlfriends dance performance of the nutcracker kinda thinking ummm this is gonna be hard to get through, then I heard this and got goosebumps and started crying (secretly), it opened a doorway
We need to appreciate the violas here, it sucks playing this piece on one. you are just going between a D and a low D. the fingers start to hurt after like 20 measures :P
nothing says xmas like this haunting song =)
I've loved this since the 1st time I heard it in grade school. That solo @2:51 is one of my favorites. 🎶🔥
This is absolutely divine. Its clear... perfect. This is my favourite piece. Can't wait for the winter holiday season to began so I can go and see Nutcracker.
Wow. This takes me to far away and exotic places...
ABSOLUTE PERFECTION it is Jan 23rd 2011 and I only just discovered Tchaikovsky
Russian music ... Russian literature .. Russian art in general ... is the most human of all arts
and the best musical orientalism was Russian...
One of my all time favorites... "Magical" is the perfect adjective for this.
Melody - Georgian Lullaby. very very Nice and Beauty.
Two words:
INCREDIBLE BEAUTY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For me watching a girl playing an instrument so beautifully takes me into another dimension ... The dark haired violinist, the way her body moves with this sound is so utterly seductive ... I could watch, listen and feel this piece of music every hour of the day ... It has such a mysterious, dark enchantment to it that it hypnotizes me each time i hear it ... My body goes into shutdown ... I anticipate the sounds but nothing prepares me for moment at 44 seconds when the strings are triggered by the bows .... Incredible incredible music that will last generations x
Makes u think.
About life..
It was difficult to me to listen this kind of music. Now I know that is food and nectar for our soul...
I can only describe this as a beautiful haunting pleasure!
Turns out Tchaikovsky, who visited Georgia a lot, relied to a large extent on the Georgian folk music here - Iavnana: ruclips.net/video/j0os-Z5OnIg/видео.html
Nothing to do with Arabia, Tchaikovsky heard this theme inTbilisi and later use it in The Nutcracker. This is Georgian folk lullaby. Maestro was great, but he should name this melody as it was really. Georgian folk tunes are amazing!!!
Dla takich chwil warto być na tym świecie ...
Seductively smooth
I love how... mysterious, not really the word I'm looking for, this sounds... Like, it's so simple but "says" So much idk I love it.
Love Tchaikovsky! this song is one of the best.
I don't see why anyone would dislike this.
its such a beautiful peice, it sounds like a gorgeous woman trying to seduce her man, unsuccesfully at first but then he gives in to temptation. i love it!
Such a peaceful and meditative piece. Great music to listen to while reading a good book...
Amazing in full volume
This is such a beautiful performance! Love it!
this is a famous georgian lullaby theme
i am a young dancer and this is my favorite dance. my favorite company member does it and she moves beautifully with the music. my day sucks right now and this just made it a zillion times better :)
This is a piece of art with both so much elegance and sensality in it... mesmerizing.
Ennio Morricone's "Al Capone" theme from The Untouchables seems to sample from this song. See 2:53 and 3:12.
One of Tchaikovsky’s best.😁
Absolutely magical - for me, perfect tempo!💕🩰🌹
oh my god ive finally found it.
thank you god lol
definately the best part, it makes you feel alive
0:23 they start to play and i get goosebumbs
if you feel bad and you listen to the arabian dance you feel good
afterwards you become better
and then if you keep listening you feel just awsome !
Music of the spheres. The universe.
Meu sonho é ocupar uma dessas cadeiras da platéia!
I would really appreciate if someone can tell me the name of the director, he is amazing and so is each member of this orchestra. Thank you very much for sharing one of the most beautiful piece of Chekov.
Me hubiera encantado estar ahí :(
@pinkvela i absolutely love this piece. i love this version only, when i hear it in other tempos or with other instrumentation, i just dont like it enough.
it was love at first...hearing for me: i watched a dance solo to this (on a different theme though) and it just won me forever. it's magical
i have watched the video you're suggesting. believe it or not, i dont like the choreography. it's too much of showig-off-my-great-legs and it doesnt suit my aesthetics. im rather appalled
thanx a lot!
I LOVE THE WAY HOW VIOLINISTS SWAY THEIR HEADS TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME. SOMETHING VERY MAGICAL ABOUT IT.
I wonder if they can't help it...
I never want this to end...
This piece of music was in the beginning of Salvador Dali documentary: In search of immortality. It drew me straiggt into the documentary with beautiful scenery of the sea and beach. Such beautiful music!
beautiful... absolutely beautiful... It's all I can say... Thank you, Maestro... ^^

My favorite canto .....ahhh juventus stultorum magister, I used to listen to other forms of music until I found Classical Music ❤️ around 10. Thanks, Tchaikovsky.
Simply breathtaking and magnificent, every emotion bundled up together...must be what being in heaven feels like, 24/7. Overwhelming joy, with hints of a past life that's now gone, and this is my reward.
