Elphaba vs Èponine
Sam seems to operate well as the underdog who proceeds to knock the socks off the competition. She was the youngest in this and made it past the seasoned veterans all the way to the finals, and now she's the new face on the silver screen in Les Mis who I've heard completely steels the show. Go Samantha!!

Holy cow, andrew lloyd webber broke down, and so did i. When the audience got up to clap - it was incredible
I could def see the heart wretching emotion of Sam's voice/facial expressions in this song that she translated into being Eponine wow just wow
Cats is one of my faveorite musicals too
I really felt sorry for Andrew for having to make this decision. You can see the agony in his face... it's heartbreaking.
Sam may not have won but she was sally(cabaret), eponine x 3, and eventually was actually nancy
they were both incredible. Samantha was my preference but this was probably the most epic sing off out of all of the seasons. Andrew could have picked either of them and either would have been brilliant
Both were great - brought Andrew Lloyd Webber to tears.
I don't know how much ALW can see of their faces, but if you look at their eyes near the end of the song, Rachel seems to be showing fear, while Sam is showing determination. If he could see that, I wonder if that's what swung it for Sam.
Rachel looks like she would make an AMAZING Elphaba.
Rachel looked and sounded tense, while Sam looked serene and ended the song with a smile. I think that influenced Andrew's final decision.
Rachel would actually be fabulous in Cats if you judge by this performance. Judging by personality though, if I see her as anyone in the West End, I see her as Rizo in Grease. That role would be perfect for her.
@TLKthing3 She did. I was just saying that she had the look and the voice. I was also expressing the wish to be able to see her as Elphaba, but alas, I live on the other side of ther pond.
I love both these ladies. Comparing them there is a fullness to Sam's voice that is a bit more than what Rachel gives.
Jessie was the only contestant at a disadvantage because the public from her home area couldn't vote. Although Rachel and Niamh are Irish too, the public could vote for them because you can call in to vote from Northern Ireland.
Spoken like someone who never went to any of Jessie's American Songbook concerts, fantastic. No doubt she was the best singer and interpreter in the last 4 but RADA seems to be taking priority for her these days.
The Greatest Movie Is Oliver
i totally agree, susan's opening was like a flat land if you get what i mean - with no musicality.
This was so much more progessional
Rachel s amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing!
I saw her playing meat 'nd i totally loved her!
I wish wwry was here in Belgium!
this song made me cry
It's kinda.. undescribable :p
They're both sooo good & I loved their hug at 3:20
And at the end, jessie crying for Rachel, that's soooo sweet!
still wanted rachel to win.. :)
nah you could tell andrew didn't want her either, why else would he have said he didn't want rachel and sam in the semi-final singoff, then tell jodie that her performance in the final may not be good enough to win. then say that he ultimately wanted jessie to win. and who could blame him, there were at least 5 girls in the competition who would have made better nancys.

Just re-read this and had to laugh at the "Good luck with that!". That's good sarcasm and it made me laugh...even if it was aimed at me! :-)
Rachel is so much better did you know that she is in WE WILL ROCK YOU now!!!!!
What a difference in expectations, Boyle gets a standing ovation from the BGT judges for starting this out of tune, and singing it with little artistry, whilst these 2 are amazingly talented whilst fighting for just 3rd place in a high class competition.
Samantha was by far the best there, so glad she was put through though she should have made the final 2 instead of Jessie
adamo2909 - yes, and listen to the words Sam was given. More positive, more triumphant, than Rachel's. Maybe I'm reading into it too much but I wouldn't be surprised...I think the panel have been backing Sam for a long time.
why just cause i remembered what alw said?
even though i think jodie wasn't the best girl for nancy, i'm glad she won tbh cause many of the other girls have done much better than jodie already
dhn01, if ALW had had a free choice of all 4, it would have been Jodie who would have gone at this stage. He obviously knew the voting patterns, so this decision was based on how can I stop Jodie winning - an Irish transfer vote maybe. Without winning Jodie would not have had a Musical Theatre career at all, whereas the other 3 have done quite well without winning.
Why is Sam still in this competition? She managed to sing Memory without an ounce of emotion. Nancy is one of musical theatre's most complex leading ladies - Sam couldn't bring a tear to my eye if she was singing at a funeral!!!
@TLKthing3 She did. I was just saying that she really looks and sings the part. Sorry for the confusion.
But this competition was never about who had the most experience or who was the youngest - it was about finding the perfect Nancy i.e someone who can act and sing the part well. Rachel was outstanding. Should have won!
I don't think anyone is saying that Sam-the-person is emotionless...her PERFORMANCES do. If she wins the role, then she's going to be playing to big audiences night after night. The nerves never leave you, even after years of experience.
I agree, she probably just needs more time...Rachel didn't.
if she is to young how come she has already played nancy and has also played sally from caberet and eponine from les mis with eponine being a lot harder to play
i agree with faker0001 totally - it's so ironic the way that the two who the panel said weren't nancy were the two that were definitely safe.
also i agree that niamh and sarah are the true nancies although now i really like sam and want her to win :D
I actually like this abridged version of Memory
It's a sing off, I'm allowed to compare.
Rachel put in SO much emotion, she acted the song better than Sam. At some points that meant she spoke some of the words. But sam just sung it almost stright faced the whole way through.
I see why some people may have thought Sam was the best singer here. But with musicals, singing is just in-tune acting.
Rachel should have at least been in the final. I'm happy she didn't win though, becuase she's gone onto bigger and better things.
:)
We Will Rock You
it's a musical based on queen's songs. :)
I think one of the weeks Niamh got saved she started but I'd have to relisten.
Rachel acted her way through this.
Sam did the same old 'agression with warmth' whatever the hell that is!
Coompletely the wrong decision, think Andrew's losing it!!!!
I wouldn't have liked to have been Andrew Lloyd Webber at this point. Hardest decision. Ever.
PurpleF, that's because he wanted to eliminate Jodie at this stage.
In all honesty I think Sam was better in the sing off vocally but Rachel acted it out so well I almost wanted to cry.
Wait Wait? Is this the most devastating moment? AGAIN?
BOO!!!!! LLOYD WEBBER!!!! Rachel was so much better than Sam!
For ages i was made about this decision but in fairness this was Rachel's third time in the bottom two and sam's first so perhaps it should be three strikes and you are out. She wasnt going to win. Having said that i think Rachel and Jessie would have made an amazing final two
Neither Rachel nor Sam deserved to be in the sing-off - Jessie has been very inconsistent over the last few weeks and Jodie simply hasn't shone at all. Even the panels say Jodie and Jessie isn't their Nancy for that week. It was very unfortunate Rachel was in the sing-off for a third time - nobody ever survives sing-offs for a third time :(
To M1SSM4R5 -
OK Smart-arse, I CAN read but couldn't see who'd written it, which is why I asked you who'd called Sam 'shit'. I then went on to say that clearly Sam ISN'T shit - I don't think any of the girls are.
You may not understand my argument (YOU can't SPELL) but plenty of other people do. Maybe ALW is seeing something in Sam off-screen but we can only base our vote on what we see on-screen. And so far, I haven't seen much emotion in Sam's eyes or face when she sings.
thank you both for cheering me up. :-{)
i don't care who wins anymore. i miss niamh.
this was a chance to redefine nancy, make her a believable 21st c. character.
no offence to dickins.
the best 3 sing offs of the series were the 3 Rachel was in...also liked the Ashley/Fran one.
don't forget that sam also played sally bowles and nancy
@ExAxLxPx12 yh shee should'vee butt thenn shee wouldn'tt havee been inn Wickedd wheree she is PHENOMINAL anddd imm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
happpyy shee'ss stayingg anotherr yearrr :D
SORRY...bad English. What I meant to say was "her PERFORMANCES are". Der.
Personally I don't agree with the direction in which ALW and CM are taking this production, but then again they are the professionals; in fact I started disagreeing when Sarah was sent home, although I didn't want to see Rachel go home that week either.
I'm sure all these 12 finalists will find a good career in musical theatre anyway. Good luck!
Zaftra, I don't disagree, but Jodie more than any of them
Yeah I was so annoyed that I couldn't vote :(
The extra few votes could have helped Jessie win! Mind you... the population of Ireland is only 4 million... including Northern Ireland!
Sarah definitely was a Nancy, but I think Jodie could also be Nancy. It's odd that one of the 2 best performances of night...
I think Rachel's accent is awesome... along with Samantha's. :3
@midnightmaniclk92 yes, well, im not surprised you disagreed with me. seeing as your a miley cyrus fan - i guess we are polar opposites
PunkNDisorderly3, I'm having a little leg pull. I can't even remember what I wrote. Coincidentally, it's about a year as now since jodie won.
I agree with you. Although, I enjoyed Sam's performance this week. Jessie is a marvelous singer but she's still awkward and uncomfortable. I think she either needs to go to a drama school (Which any would probably take her at this point.) or do some supporting roles for experience. Rachel really should /not/ have gone.
Is it coincidence that Graham was wearing the colours of the bottom two?
sam did not just sing she did act it but more subtle than rachel, who overdid it slightly. i am glad sam went through
Sam got to sing way more than Rachel. Cameron wasn't happy with the choice ALW and cameron had a huge bust uo after
Rachel should have won!!
if it wasn't for this programme I doubt any would have had a career.
Rachel is clearly superior in my opinion in this competition because Samantha is just too young to play Nancy. I don't think this sing off is really fair anyway, Samantha is kind of getting to sing all of the "wow" lines with Rachel singing the emotional ones. I really wish Rachel had won.
Oh well, in any case Sam'll be out next wk and THATS when the real dilemma starts.
Though my gut feeling thinks Jodie will win. I love Jessie and everything but I can see where John's coming frm...
Still, its only this week that Rachel started to impress me. Bit too late though eh?
i believe Rachel's performance last week was amazing and it should have been enough for her to stay. I think Jessie is letting herself down each week and i definatley thought it would be her against Sam in the sing-off. Rachel should have stayed!
@xjosiebeanx I prefer Samantha here...it's everybodys opinion..
totally agree
Amazing sing off!! To be honest I didn't think Rachel was right for Nancy (but that might be because I was a devoted Jodie fan from the moment she graced our TV screens at the initial auditions), but I did think that she and Jessie should've swapped finishing positions. Jessie, while a fantastic singer, is not an actor or dancer, at least she wasn't at the time and she would've needed more time than they had to get her up to snuff
I'm so tired I have no idea whether "up to snuff" is an actual phrase or not...I think it is, but it doesn't sound right
I thought Sam was better. She seemed more real where Rachel just seemed very fake.
@potterfangirl91 I thought she did play Elphaba last year... (or still)
Rachel acted this so much better than Sam, she seemed like she really had been through the experience Grizabella had.
Also, did anyone else feel that Sam had more to sing that Rachel? o.o Odd.
I think it was very obvious from the minute those two were in the bottom two who was going home. Such a shame. Andrew certainly isn't judging with his head...I felt awful for Rachel anyway. She did an outstanding performance and STILL she was in the bottom two. So unfair. I couldn't even vote coz I'm in the ROI.
OMFG RACHEELL TUCKERRR IS SOOOOOO MUCHH BETTERR BUTT AM SO HAPPYY SHEE DIDDNTT GETT IN THEE FINALL COSS SHEE COULD'VEE DEFENITLEYY WONN ANDD SHEE ISSS BLOODDYY PHENOMINALL IN WICKEDD WHEEREE SHE'SS STAYINGG ANOTHERR YEARR :DDD AMMM SOOO HAPPYY SOOO THATT IS MY B-DAYY PRESENTT FROMM MUM ANDD DAD :D DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
We counl'nt vote in Ireland
Samantha=better vocals
Rachel=better acting
Fantastic Sing Off I would hate to be Andrew Lloyd Webber''s shoes as I would find it extremely tough to select who goes.
i think the wrong person went,
this was an amazing sing off (:
jodie to win xD
rachel was by far the best
Rachel should have been put through, not Samantha
gmd5, because they rightly watched Jessie wipe the floor with Jodie in the final.
amazing sing off,
but rachel didn't deserve to go.
in my opinion it should of been jessie, but out of these two samantha should of.
the judges give criticism to jodie and jessie so much and never sam. sam's performance this week nearly put me to sleep.
jessie is not nancy, yes she can sing, but she can't dance or act!
jodie is my nancy.
come on people vote jodie for nancy!
JODIE TO WIN! :]
Rachel is very good, but I think Andrew must've thought she was starting to go downhill as of this sing off she'd been in the the final two twice. However, I think being Elphaba is better than being Nancy. That's just my thoughts.
Nah. Never waste my time arguing with myself. I usually agree with myself.
I realize it's a bit late to be saying it, but it should have been left to viewers' votes and not a singoff. Samantha is a superior singer in this, yes, but she's a pitiful actress. Rachel is showing some knowledge of the role, here, and comprehension of the lyrics. Her face is full of hope, and longing. She plays the part. Samantha is once again singing to the camera, and the only attitude she gives off, here, is cockiness. She should not have been chosen.
I think Rachel would of made a good Nancy...Out of 4 of them Rachel reminded me of Shani Wallis who was Nancy in the 1968 Movie.
wats wwry stand for??/
i'm sorry but i also think that at this point rachels voice was beginning to go due to strain
I love Rachel, but Samantha has the upper hand in this. WOW
as much as i love rachel, i think this song suits sam's voice better. can't be bothered to watch it anymore.
Rachel should of been saved. Jodie to win :)
sams in caberet
samanthas eyes are dead in this - she cant act
You just proved why she shouldn't have won. It's not just about singing. It's also about acting, which she failed miserably. If she's too young to get it at that point, then she's obviously still in need of training before taking a starring role.
God, this host is so tactless.
Always thought Rachel looked aggressive when she sung.
To M1SSM4R5 and Rollmar:
Who's saying Sam is 'shit'? I haven't seen that word used to describe Sam. Clearly she isn't shit, none of the girls are.
But how is just letting Sam 'sing and look good' enough?? If that's what you really think about Sam as a Sam-supporter, then those of us who AREN'T Sam-supporters can't be all wrong, experts or not!!!
the girls are pretty ^^
webber was ok with it, Cameroon wasn't
