How to Find an Oil Leak in minutes!

- Welcome to the Trick Shift Garage! In this video, we go over another way to find the source of an oil leak. For our 2007 Altima, it's a common problem but the steps and tools we used to find the leak can be applied for any vehicle. The dye that we used can be used to find any time of leak, then just look for the glowing green dye with the ultraviolet flashlight and you will find your source!

Very cool. I purchased a container of dye about a year ago and haven't used it yet. I want to actually fix my tranny leak in my 98 Cherokee now because it's very expensive to keep filling it back up with Valvoline almost every time I drive it (upon purchase this thing had a leak in like every system except for the washer fluid but I got it for $600 and it's a learning experience worth thousands). I definitely don't want to misdiagnose or miss anything, even while I'm assuming it's the input shaft seal from evidence before. I have a replacement boroscope for my old one I found broken that should be delivered tomorrow, now to see if I have another thing of trans fluid laying around so I can get everything cleaned up, topped off, insert the dye, run it to leak, and take a lookskie 😁

A black light for oil leaks? I never seen that before. This method is pretty cool
Yes sir! Just add the dye in whatever fluid your looking for leaks with, drive it around for a little while, then shine the ultraviolet light around and you'll find it!
Unless... it's an internal leak of course 🤞😉
@@TrickShiftGarage gotcha. Still a pretty cool process. I could have used that for my oil leaks. Also I recommend changing the whole cooler. Would be cool to see that process and with 200k miles it's probably time to replace it anyways lol

Hey I got a question, would you think it presumably safe to mix PAG UV Dye oil with 5W40? Were talking like 3 to 6 oz at most for 5 quarts of oil.
I can't find UV dye for motor oil anywhere where I'm at and the only thing available is the stuff used in automotive A/C's.
My main concern is that the PAG oil won't mix well with 5W40 and maybe cause some sludge or something. I have read though that PAG oil is synthetic and can be compatible with ester oils.
To be honest, I'm not sure. I don't think it would hurt anything but I would talk someone at your local auto parts store or a certified mechanic first, to make sure it's safe to use with motor oil. Hope this helps! 😊
Do these dye products affect the viscosity of the oil or can they damage something in the engine? It's the only doubt I have.

As far as I know, they do not affect oil viscosity or condition. It mixes into the oil easily and when you change the oil most of it drains out with it. Hope this helps, thanks for watching! 👍

You can clearly see the oil so why bother with the dye?
Had a valve cover leak prior to this video so wasn't sure if the oil was from that leak or the oil cooler leak. The dye just helped confirm for me that the oil cooler gasket was bad 😊
For $8 It will identify the exact point of oil leak. Versus a Guessing Mechanic Labor + Parts Bill 💵 $$$
Take your pick but i’m going with the $8 everytime as my diagnostic for oil leak and antifreeze leak
oil leaks are usually spotted quite easily by the sight of leaking oil.
