Great job! I'm painting a 64 C 10 now with Gloss royal blue rust oeum. I just cut it with acetone only. Never thought of using a hardener. I did the inside of the bed yesterday. I've got videos painting chassis with it too. The semi-gloss works great on the chassis. I media the chassis depending on the scale then use red oxide primer before the black. Holds up awesome! You can use an automotive clear on it. Just test a cured small spot just in case the brand doesn't react to it. The clear keeps paint from dulling out from the sun. Rustoeum gloss does not last long without a sealer or clear over it I've found out, but it gives it a nice patina over time though. I found whatever you do don't use the tractor supply brand paint! Had too many issues with it! Painting with a brush or roller-reduce it to reduce brush marks, foam brushes work great! Temperature also helps it flow nicely. John, I think this paintjob is perfect. Yeah its not going to win any car shows, but its not going to rust any more and likely last many more decades as well. Also, great job on the music, did you play that on guitar? thanks
Thanks, I appreciate you watching and leaving the comment. Yes, it should be well preserved for whoever follows me. About the Music, those two songs were created using early digital sequencing software and was created about 15 years ago. While I was not the actual guitar player, the notes of the guitar and other instruments were Composed and Arranged by me. Now I have all of what is needed to duplicate it if I wanted. Thanks Again. I've done a few garage paint jobs and applaud you for doing it yourself. I just don't understand why you did all that work (a lot!) and then didn't take just a little more time to clean out the truck and the floor before spraying....?
U did a great job looks nice get you some box fans from the dollar store next time an blow that stuff out of there your health is more important but you been doing it for years you know what you are doing
Nice Job! I'm about to the same with rustoleum Alu on my old corolla. I noticed you did all coats in one session, is that right? I'm so worried about having the paint wrinkle, instructions say recoat first 2 minutes or after 24h. So question is, dont let it flash on you keep it wet? I would also like to get it done in one session rather one coat every day...
Yes, I applied all coats the same day with about 30 minutes between the 3 coats. I also used Hardener and Japan Drier. Not sure if that makes a difference or not. I will say though, even with the hardener and japan drier, it still took well over a month to completely cure. It was dry to the touch the following day but was soft. It does take a while to cure. Thanks for watching and the comment. John
I purchased 1 gallon and had probably 16 or so ounces left in the gallon can. On this truck that equated to 3 coats. The first coat on the sides of the truck was fairly light and then two more heavy coats, however, the Top and Hood got 3 heavy coats because I was afraid i would have some issues with pitting and I did. Thanks for the comment. John
You need a hat that says “Just F’ing Do It! I got the same issues. Going to rattle can primer my Jeep after I pack a bunch of bondo on it. Then maybe bed liner the whole thing! So where did you get the hardener? Is it a rust oleum product?
I have purchased the hardener at both Tractor Supply as well as Rural King but I am pretty sure any paint store should also carry it. The brand I used was from Majic. The cans I got were only 8oz cans that should treat one gallon or oil based paint. Thanks for the comment and of course for watching the video. I appreciate it. John
Thomas, I do wish that I had a better paint cup, as you may have noticed in the video, I mixed to the ounces because that was the only paint cup I had. The first two coats were mixed 16oz paint, 4oz Acetone, literally a splash or two of Hardener and a Cap of Japan Drier. On the last coat I mixed it a little thinner increasing the Acetone to 8oz with everything else remaining the same. I wanted as wet a cook as possible without getting it too thin. The little cans of hardener is intended to treat a full gallon of paint. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and the comment, I appreciate it. John
Thanks Mike, I didn't choose the paint because of a lack of availability to get automotive paint, I chose it because I like the paint and have a fair amount of experience with it. I actually prefer it over the "Real" paint. I will definitely post a follow up in several years if I'm still around. Thanks for your comment., I appreciate it. John

John
Good job!!!!
John
Good stuff👌
Thank you I was about to spend a bunch of money on paint
How many gallons of paint? For how many coats?
Looks great 👍
I purchased 1 gallon and had probably 16 or so ounces left in the gallon can. On this truck that equated to 3 coats. The first coat on the sides of the truck was fairly light and then two more heavy coats, however, the Top and Hood got 3 heavy coats because I was afraid i would have some issues with pitting and I did. Thanks for the comment. John
Looking good
Thanks, I appreciate you watching and commenting. John
Great job
Hey Erhardt 3 is that the same Rust-Oleum oil Paint that Lowes sells
Yes it is.
@@GreaseMonkey1958 thanks i going to try on a s10
@@zcam1969 Good luck. Let us know how it turns out. John
Looks great. What was your mix ratio?
John
I use Rust oleum on my brush guard but, over time it dries out and cracks.
Great. Job.
Looks good to me. Could you spray clear coat over it????
Once the paint is completely cured, yes, it can be clear coated. Thanks for the comment and watching. John
What was your final mixing ratio for all paint parts
John
Had a 73 GMC that I did the same way
see how this holds up later in the sun and make a update ,,,,, eastwood sells automotive grade paint also you can buy not being a bodyshop !!!
John
looks good but will it be durable?
My experience with this type of paint says yes but time will tell. If it works out and I am still around then I will post a follow up video to show how it looks with time. Thanks for the comment and for watching. John
Look good
