- Guards & Paras Endurance Test | Heartbreak Hill || HDPRCC
Infantry courses were focused on core infantry skills, but the various demands on infantry battalions meant that soldiers were not necessarily well practiced in these at all times. Consequently, battalions sought to address this gap by conducting their own in house refresher training. Over time, however, it became evident that the level of performance on both courses was unpredictable and varied between the battalions.
In 1996 this resulted in the Household Division and Parachute Regiment pooling resources to create the first centralised team to deliver this training, known as Household Division & Parachute Regiment Centralised Courses, known as (HDPRCC).

“Why am I walking?!” 😂 cuz you are not carrying a log 😂
DWL 🔥💂
It pays to do the course 😜
Yeah I’m thinking about it
As fast as the slowest, as strong as the weakest. together we overcome ! British Army , Be the best !!!
Agree with other comments , this is what should be in the recruitment adverts....show of team work, individual controlled aggression, stamina and mental control to overcome the urge to give up...Excellent effort......even staff for walking ....
Love the channel Fabziy keep it up.
😄 Thanks G, and yes I do agree with some of the comments also, we need that spark back in recruitment. I guest I'm the man for the job 🤐
Well said. That's just what I was thinking. Keeping going, and fighting the pain inside, when all you want to do is just give up
@@Fabziy 10 laps round my beautiful body, with a jump right turn, do u understand? Eh what staff? PTI s are all fannies, uve got to be narcissistic fudd to be one! Piss poor performance ladies!
Pain is a sensation, the sensation is there to be enjoyed
These are the types of videos that get people to join up!
🤔 These are the type of men, I'm honoured to call brothers 💂🔥💪
Totally agree. If this can't motivate you then nothing will
I totally agree. If this can't motivate you then nothing can
Enormous respect from Australia! Brits are as tough as fuckin' nails! Among the finest soldiers on Earth. Keep it up boys!
This is how the army should be advertising for new recruits. They're then showing a true reflection of what basic is like. People seeing this and joining won't be in for harsh surprises and will want to to join . Great video, great grit and determination shown. Well done!
Brings back horrors from my basic training in 1986. Doesn't matter how fit you are the log and assault course will put you on your chinstrap. Getting shivers just watching it .
REME, Arborfield, 1980. Log run (telegraph pole) on shoulders, cant remember how far it was but shed loads of going up sand dunes. Not easy but an achievement acknowledged when you've done it. Pain was bad but we all kept going. On leave my mum saw my shoulders and the damage. She rang the OC to complain. A tad embarrassing!
As a very young AC many many moons back I still remember the Instructor who beasted me at running one night. Actually in tears with anger not at him but at myself. I wasn’t the quickest runner that night but I didn’t quit.
I used that memory of my old Instructor 2 1/2 decades later to change my life around and get into fitness. 15 min miles became 7 min miles and less after putting the yards in.
Just completed the Paras’10 at Catterick getting a new PB by about 4-5 minutes quicker than my best 5yrs ago. Not bad for an old man with an arthritis riddled back...
Moral of the story I hold my Instructor from that night a youth in the highest regards. That was back in the day when you got press ups or running for being disrespectful to your Instructors.
Great work lads in video - don’t quit 🇬🇧
Love your channel Fabziy! I passed out at Pirbright in 1991. Certainly brings back memories! Glad to see standards haven’t dropped but I am happy to watch this from my sofa now!
This was amazing to watch! True heroism on display from those young men, it must have pushed them to their physical limits. I agree with the commentators here, this is the sort of stuff that motivates you to join. There is something timeless about being able overcome physical obstacles in this way that just isn't highlighted enough with recent Army recruitment campaigns.
Respect to these guys very fit, well fed well and reasonably well paid and well kitted out, now rewind back to the seventies and back more we were very fit, well fed on very poor quality repetitive food, constantly skint, our kit was shit, but im not bitter
This looks a right proper challenge. I bet it really tests your fitness, stamina, and determination that's for sure
Great video Fabziy, That course just used to be called just HDCC. The Log race was called Exercise Time Off, good to see they still get a beasting, i mean Character building 😎👍 well done everyone, great effort.
Yet another superb vlog. Once again excellent picture composition without the use of a steady cam! Quite remarkable and skilful...... If, you are thinking of joining up, this vlog, its narrative and production, is what being the best is all about. A mental commitment to try your hardest and leave nothing in reserve. "Train hard and fight easy."
Having served in the US Army I love watching vids such as the to see how other countries train their troops. Awesome videos
The best fuckn channel bro - hands down! I love the content and music. Meadowbank, Auckland, New Zealand. ONWARD!
I am ex-army...RNZIR - 5th/7th Batt
Im Ex 1 Para circa 70s and loving watching the pain.could be be worse you could be doing this on the tank tracks in Aldershot , God Bless the Regt.
Love these videos takes me back to 1994 when I was at Pirbright,I can even remember the pain!
Andy Brown I was at pirbright in 94 too 👍 good times
Loving your videos mate! I start my training at Pirbright 13th of October can't wait!
Thanks and good luck👍
Love this channel. Just wish i can turn back the clock and join the army these boys are strong men.
What's stoping you?
@@Fabziy i tried to join the other day but can join due to medical reasons. I had a drug addiction in my past. So i couldn't join. I think the army recruitment should be a bit more relaxed on this sort of stuff. Like theres people willing to to join but cant thru stupid reason in the past. I live to come show use that someone like me can do this. Iv sent you a message on Instagram and following you on there to bro.
Apache Moonshine23 if people with criminal records can apply after a certain amount of years is there nothing like that for people who’ve been diagnosed with addiction?
I’m currently in the process of joining the Marines, so not the army, but I’ll carry your fighting spirit with me to make us both stronger brother!
Vagabond Sparrow thanks brother. No there’s nothing I can do about it on less then join the French foreign legion. I do think It’s a little harsh tho cuz it’s way back in my past. I was only reading the other day that over 13 thousand people in the army has left in the last 2 years. Mite be one year. That’s a lot of people gone in a short time me thinks. I wonder if it’s possible to set up an army like the French foreign legion but in the uk England. I live on the Isle of Man and we don’t have an army anymore. I’d so love to do it tho it’s my biggest regret in life. I hope you do well when you join up an be good to hear back from you when you pass out bro. Keep in touch bro
Apache Moonshine23 gutted for you mate! I dunno if the FFL would be quite the same as the Brits unfortunately. But like I said, I’ll carry the strength of all those who unfortunately cannot make it into our revives for one reason or another, so you’ll be with me the whole way brother!
It’s mad how many people are leaving at the moment! In my research is blew my mind that we have less than 150,000 serving personal in regulars and reserves, and that more people are leaving every year than joining! Crazy stuff!
It’s the same round here in North Wales, except for the odd RAF training in the mountains there’s not a whiff of any of the forces around! And to think that in 2025 their shutting down Bracon barracks and another one here in Wales.
I’ll definitely keep people up to date! Gonna smash my interview on Monday and smash every target they give me afterwards. Since deciding I wanted to join the Marines NOTHING can stop me hitting that goal! They say it’s a State Of Mind and I bloody well have it already if I do say so myself! 😁
Another awesome video Fabziy really can't wait for my assessment it's on the 25th September and I'm here all the way from Fiji aiming for the para's
Good choice wish you all the best Utrinque Paratus💪
Did you make it?
did all this at aldershot 50 years ago .which could be why my back and knees are knackerd.
Just the motivation I need before work 👍🏽
😃 Hardcore 🔝
Great video Fabziy. Many find memories. Pirbright's 3 Miler is a proper "Man's Test".
I was the Courses PTI (Class II) at HDPRCC from 2002-2004. Just to add. Back then HDPRCC ran various courses for The Parachute Regiment and Household Division such as: PNCO - Drill & Duties (Private Soldiers to Lance Corporal Promotion Course), Pre SCBC (Junior Brecon) Course, Pre PSBC (Senior Brecon) Course, Pre RMAS - Sandhurst Instructor Course, Advance Navigation Course (Special Forces Course Preparation), Guards Pre Parachute Selection (P Company) Course, Sniper Operator Course and a Potential Officers Selection Course.
I found the Training Area, although smaller, just as physically demanding as Catterick and Aldershot s and was ideal for the types of courses mentioned.
Yes! That's what I like to see!
Hopefully in a year time, going to military myself.
DFDX
You had bette start with the fitness routine now then or you won't make it.
Can't beat a bit of digging in, this is a great advert for the Army.
I am 60 now but would still like to give this a go. Was in the RAF from 76-83 but our basic training, although hard at the time, was nothing like as hard as this of course. I am physically fit for my age, I run 3 times a week for half an hour and muck out in a local horse racing yard. I have to push a heavy wheel barrow full of muck up a steep ramp and empty it into a trailer multiple times in a day. Would like to put myself through something like this to see what I could achieve. Great videos Fabziy.
I used to love a log race. Only after I left the Army mind you 😂
😃
This is very inspiring, as are many of your videos. The comments are certainly so as well. God bless you for your wonderful content.
Thanks for watching appreciate it 👍
Ah the old Guards Depot Assault Course. Did that many times during my time as a Junior Guardsman back in 1980 plus the Sandhill, 4 sisters and Heartbreak Hill.
thats when it was a great place, standards are way doen now.
@@pbrobotspbrobots1710 they're trying to push them back up its all the pc stuff that's killing it. Let them make men real soldiers, you can't do lots of things you could (my uncle was army in the 70's) hearing his stories actually made me want to join.
I went through in 82/83, 5 Pltn Caterham Coy. The bayonet assault course is my abiding memory.
1 thing I hate, people yelling at you from the sidelines, help out or feck off
🔵🔴🔵💂 🇬🇧
Sends me right back to 1999! I’ve had full on screaming matches up that heartbreak hill with lads of the troop that just gave up!
Good job Fabziy😀👍🏿👍🏿. Soon and very soon...🙏🏽. This video is really motivating me 🔥
Thanks for this amazing channel. It has brought back memories from 2004. Its nice to see all the surrounding areas again, SUBSCIBED 👍
Thanks for watching! Appreciate your comment👍🏼
Fabziy if only we had a society based on the values and team work you all display.
I did all that once, now reaching 50 makes me knackered just watching this or doing a normal 3 miler is now a killer lol, thanks for the painful memories I need to get out and do more, get that buzz back again
Truly heartbreaker ....... great content Fabziy lovely
🔥🔥🔥💂🔝
I’m exhausted watching. Well done boys ❤
Never forget that hill. And sandhill in 2 dress lol. Respect to all these young lads. Looking very fit
Different times them though. True grit. Bringing out the best in everyone, no matter what.
Ha fun times, I was there in 1987...when logs were actual logs.
Matt Podmore yup ! Me too matey 😉👍
Yep same year ...
Wonder how much these logs weigh? Seen as though they're metal, and the ones you see them use in P company are obviously the big wooden telegraph poles or whatever they are
Yep, Cambria 2 Pl Oct 87
Oh youre so cool
Video like these that really motivates me and get me excited to join........well done Fabz
Just keep on top of your fitness go running every other day. This new generation gives up too easily.
Thanks for the advice......
Brilliant video, love these!😆👍
Hmm I was thinking the same🔥🔥😎
Great video as usual! Had my selection yesterday and today. Saw you on my 2k run. Kinda sucks I didn't get a chance to actually say hi but your videos are extremely helpful
james jepson Thank you & Hope it went well for you!
Well done lads
RESPECT - Good drills, warriors!💪🇬🇧 👍
It must be hard if the paras are blowing out there arse!! 🇬🇧
Hard grafting 💪🔥
@@Fabziy absolutely! I start training in November at cattrick so im trying to train as much as i can now.
Join the.Royal marines mate, that's proper graft
Joel Carr proper Graft lmao I done commando course and p company and the latter was by far harder my friend
@@coops9871 Scran is usually frozen in the Army so I'd say harder to eat during P coy.
Did HDPRCC in 2002. Hammered from pillar to post. Loved it
I'm going to have to stop watching these videos.
I feel so knackered I can hardly get up off the settee.
lol
I cant wait till next year when I hopefully get into the army college I want to.
I was doing this 30 years ago. Wish I was younger to do it again.
I go to Para depot training on the 29th fucking buzzing for it!!
Love this 💪💪 real warriors 💪
Did a log run on my PTI's course in Aldershot in the early 90's. On a log with 8 other super fit guys what a fecking nightmare lol
Slainte' Fab...great shoot!🍻🍁.
Would be sick for some content of where you came from to get to where you are today and how you became an army commando/PTI. 👌🏻
Don't forget P-Coy 😡.....................😎 In the making👊
I turned my notifications on for your channel! Looking forward to it.
Character Building at it's Best
Should be called heart attack hill!! All credit to all of them. This is why the British Army is the best in the world.
My legs ache watching this 😂 that hill killed me! Especially after doing six runs up concrete hill
Awesome content. Is there any chance you can do a little guide about the assessment centre?
Sandhill, Heartbreak and Sisters still look the same as they did back in 1989 on my HDCC - Guards only then.
I was there 1980 until 89 brings back memories not all bad ,Wg
Intense 🙌🏿🙌🏿🔥
It's waiting for you 😈🔥
Fabziy 😅😌🤷🏿♂️
@@kyronprincevlogs5104 nice video about what to expect on assessment day and to fibziy you are a motivator I really wish to see you in person soon and you too prince, my assessment date is 19th of November I hope I get my visa and get all this done....one love bro...
The Para log race has a 'log' weighing 80kg over a 2 miles undulating course. But they use real logs and ropes.
Good shit...
I remember those hills very well they were tough but miss it tbh
I have work in the special forces these exercises very useful in the field of combat The new sheep are the hardest😂😂🚨🚨🚨
15:08 the fucking SIZE of that PTI
Served in the parachute regiment for many years was just wondering is this course just for paras and guards things have changed so much.
Thanks for your service, these guys are on; Household Division & Parachute Regiment Centralised Courses, known as (HDPRCC).
Thank you keep up the good work.
Hi Paul, I'm ex Coldstream Guards, I did this course in 96. Yes mate, just Guards and Paras.
Thanks bud like i was saying everything has changed so much done all my training and p company at Aldershot .
@@paullondon7728 I know what you mean, when I did this course at Pirbright, they they Bedecoptered us over to Aldershot to do the log run, the stretcher race and the 10 miler.
The logs in this run aren't the same, the Aldershot ones had ropes attached with nails which trashed your legs. If wasn't totally chinstrapped at time it would have been amusing to see people tripping on the log and getting dragged along.
Moved from Oz to the UK specifically to join the household cav.. this gets me excited and nervous haha being 31 worried I might be a spent force
If you join the Household Cav. You wont be doing that as it's only Foot Guards. Ie The Infantry
Just make sure you work on your fitness as it helps massively to arrive at BT with decent fitness levels. Age (even though a factor, yet) doesn't dictate your fitness ability and capacity. Train hard and with determination. All the best!
Awesome vid again..
Know that hill very well, that and the sandhill Guards Depot 88
We didn't get weekends off in basic. I was at IJLB and the Guards Depot, Pirbright in the late 70's. And that was 18 months worth.
They still don't have weekends off during BT
All good. Wat happened the days of doing it in fighting order plus weapon system. And on more than one occasion knoddy suits and resi lol
Can’t wait to join up
Heartbreak hill is no joke haven't met anyone that's done heartbreak hill and didn't learn how to breath out their arsehole
"Say what ya fuckin want"! "Led Zeppelin"! Love it.
Very proud of you all. But am very interested in joining
REPEAT IT THEN! 😂 cracked me up that did
Logs with handles, now there's a first, we had the actual logs/telegraph poles, harder to carry.(Always try to get in the middle) ; )
A log race. A really, really unpleasant experience. Unlike "proper" exercise, which is demanding but not spirit-breaking, that's just horrible. I think, though, at the margin, if you're tall a stretcher's worse. You stand up straight you're carrying more than your share, it smashes your shoulder: hideous. Teaches you grace under pressure. You have to find a place in your head away from the reality.
Good to hear , would've been a pain ,wish I was shorter at 6,3
Start phase 1 Monday gonna be spewing
How was it? I don't know when I start yet
I remember when you used to carry the log on your shoulders, painful. Oh fond memories of the guards depot 😂
Anyone would think they are doing the Rifleman's gait Three Paces trot, and Three paces walk. A pace is everytime your left foot hit the dirt. Yell out, You are Guards and Paras, not Riflemen.
My hands are fooking killing watching this
US Marine here, i'm assuming that they wanted to simulate carrying a litter with a wounded person on it based on how they're carrying it. if not its easier to run with it on your shoulders. great job nonetheless.
Hi Fabziy I am going to pirbright on November 10 of this year what should I expect when I first arrive and what should I expect from the first few weeks
Go to your local recruitment place be straight with them, they'll tell you what the crack is take it from there. Just go in there with no attitude, well prepared and remember team work means more than individual effort.
Love the comment from the ginger staff why am I walking exactly why are you walking you should be running like the blokes on the log lol😁😁
Great to see that even with a snowflake world we now have the young padawans are still getting minced. Blue red Blue!
Sod the soft snowflakes, that's what I say
Which generation was it that raised their children as snowflakes then?
They didn't raise themselves did they Grandad 🙄.
@@JammyDodger45 speak for yourself you gobbing little toad.
Log race is easier with a sling around the wrist, gripping the thin handle looks hard on the hands and limits performance
nice video, I have future plans for join paras but how do I join 23 parachute regiment by becoming a it communications engineer?
Top blokes! Pure lick out!
Curious though. How much does that thing they're carrying weigh?
A Vlog of a real Log, what could be better lol.
I've never seen the bright red ranks on the helmets like this before.
Any particular reason why their attached?
...
There in appointment. Section commander and 2ic
@@davidwales2879 I'm aware of that. But the fact there's a bright red chev on the helmet, which I've not seen before makes me question is it just for while their at Pirbright there.
@@ThePubHuB it's just for the course, so the training staff can identify who's in appointment. Hope that helps
@dimmy dunk lol 🙄
I think the staff with ginger hair shouting why am I walking is a Sargent in 3 para. I believe he was in the documentary Paras men of war.
Royal Marines do mountain training and artic training why don't these guys??!! They're definitely fit enough
Try that on the tank tracks in Aldershot when your boots and helmet weighed more than that log.back in the seventies.and the Ncos took pride in beasting you not just shouting
How far did they take it?
how much does a log weigh ? how much does each individual soldier lift up ?
While stationed in Stanley fort HK, we had logs, someone threw them in the South China Sea one night..can’t say who that someone was.😂
