    I've been sweating this knife since it was released, and when the CQI version came out, I started sweating it even more... but it was great to hear a critique that was not, like many of the other reviews out there, completely glowing. Thanks for the honest overview. I might still get the knife this year, but still... all this was good to know.

      Yea its a great knife. Think the video came off more negative then it was supposed to. Its definitely one of the best releases spyderco has done recently. But other people make it sound perfect, but no knife is.

    That's funny you said this, I actually had the Spyderco Kapara and thought the exact same things!!! It was weird/odd for me to watch a lot of various members of the RUclips knife/EDC community rant and rave about how amazing the Spyderco Kapara is, while I'm like thinking to myself that actuating/moving the compression lock to close the blade is hard/annoying to do with just my fingertips barely holding onto the handle!!! I thought to myself that the closing of the blade by using the compression lock one-handed was not only annoying but also very dangerous, and I found it very weird/odd that no one else in the RUclips knife community seems to even notice and or talk about this!!! Then I see this video from you and I was like, thank god I'm not the only one out there that thinks this way!!! I guess I'm not crazy after all!!! I've always been a huge fan your videos because you think very much like the way I do, your very persnickety in your knife reviews and seem to notice every little detail/issue no matter how insignificant they are!!!

    Good video. I have owned a Kapara for the last few weeks and although it is not the style of knife I would usually carry, I think it is one of the best production knives made in the last year. I have found the compression lock to be one of the best, particularly after the CQI process that was done. The blade gravity drops every time.

    Good looking blade, just like Benchmade's sheepsfoot+Spydie hole variant Griptilians.
    Thanks for the honest views.

    If Spyderco had done it as a liner lock or frame lock I'm pretty sure everyone would have complained it wasn't a compression lock since they can't flick it as nicely.

    Appreciate the honest remarks about the knife. I've been eyeing this one for some time and your different point of view tells things that I probably wouldn't of been able to find out about otherwise before purchasing. Also the titanium pivot could be verified by checking with a magnet to find out if it's Steel or not which I'm sure you know that already. Thanks for the vid. Awesome as always.

    Thanks, Vinnie. I was 95% sure I was going to order one of these when the release date came... but for my own priorities, some small points of doubt turned into a longer *list* of middling personal objections for a knife of not inconsiderable cost... and which faces legal carry restrictions some places in the U.S. for just an extra 1/8" of blade length.
    Good looking, though; and I especially like how little the finger choil intrudes into the blade length space. I'd like to see more of that approach from Spyderco... maybe executed more to your liking next time, V.

      ADDENDUM: ...So basically, I'm sticking with the Spyderco Stretch in ZDP-189 for filling pretty much the very role the Kapara would have had in my collection as a practical user's knife (provisionally speaking, as always). I have other options, if really required, for the now rare, and more specifically, "dress up" occasions in my social life.
      The two are of virtually identical carry weights, and the Stretch -- mine, anyway -- is executed to a noticeably higher level of fit, finish, and smoothness in action than are any of the other Spyderco Lightweights I own -- just unmistakably more high end like in look and feel, considered in practical terms. And I quite appreciate the Stretch's distinctive appearance among Spydercos myself, *particularly* in that wonderful rich dark green color of the ZDP series (this one, IMO, must be seen and handled in person for a 'stretch' of time to be properly appreciated for aesthetics).
      I do prefer a flatter forward position for the thumb, though (as with the Manix 2, Native 5, and Domino), which I have assumed the Kapara would provide well realized. But my strong preference is *for* jimping on any sort of thumb ramp, V.; which presents no problem for me, done right, for any EDC type use I can imagine coming upon in my own life. Just my personal 2¢ in the FWIW category, perhaps helpful to someone reading this. Cheers!

    I have a new production Kapara. Though I drop things a lot, I haven't drop it yet. Realistically, much of the appeal is how it looks. I agree that it might be easier to handle with as frame or liner lock.

  • @brianrobinson3961
    @brianrobinson3961 5 лет назад +3

    One other nit pick I have with the Kapara is when it’s closed there is a large portion of the blade that is not nested inside the handle and makes it carry like a larger knife in the pocket. That and the issue you mentioned about having to adjust your hand after pulling the knife from the pocket are my main complaints. It’s still in my top 5 Spyderco knives though. With the Drunken, Spydiechef, Endura and PM2 rounding out my personal top 5.

  • @ThomasConnolly

    I also agree that the Spyderco Kapara should have been a liner lock!!! One of my all-time favorite Spyderco knives is the Spyderco Zulu which is a liner lock knife designed by Jens Anso and it's very weird/odd looking but yet extremely functional. The Spyderco Zulu is a liner lock and a really good one at that, it's easy to disengage the liner lock on the Zule but at the same time the liner lock won't slide over and disengage on its own. Here's an interesting video on the Spyderco Zulu showing that Spyderco can actually make a really good liner lock knife, even though they don't often make them - ruclips.net/video/ZkQkz2YKmks/видео.html

    I enjoy your videos and point of view, but why would you or the average person need to regularly carry a Tactical knife? I understand the desire to quickly deploy the knife to say open a box, but that's not what I think you mean.

    • @neroknives1828
      @neroknives1828  5 лет назад

      Sorry. Im not sure what part you're referring to. I don't recall saying people need a tactical knife.

    • @sunshyn21
      @sunshyn21 5 лет назад

      @@neroknives1828 13:26 you didn't call it a tactical knife. You said it wasn't one and that you needed to move your hand up the handle. I personally don't like to move my hand up the handle after I deploy the blade, like I have to on the trm atom, but I digress. It was more of a broad statement about me not seeing the need for a knife to be tactical from a self defense perspective vs quickly deployed to attack the problem ( opening a box)

    • @neroknives1828
      @neroknives1828  5 лет назад

      @@sunshyn21 oh yea. I said its not a tactical knife, ans its not trying to be one. I meant if it was trying to be a tactical knife, it would be a fail since its not the most secure to deploy.

    Seems like you drop point guys make a mountain over that tip issue. What does it matter where the handle is. Do you have wrist issues or something?

    • @neroknives1828
      @neroknives1828  5 лет назад +6

      No i don't have wrist issues. But for what i do having a tip lower is more convenient.
      To me thats like asking...... why do you like one hand opening knives, does your other hand not work? Well no my hand works fine, this is just more convenient.
