    Love to see a blade that is not as tall as most of their offerings. This seems to be a really good knife. Great review 👍

    I was surprised when you said you had not handled the Kapara a while back. I would rank the Kapara somewhere in the top 10 of all Spydercos in performance and top 3 in looks. Only the Paysan and Nirvana are better looking Spyderco knives and both are considerably more expensive. Spyderco has a lot of "must experience" knives in their lineup so that is why it gets overlooked.
    Juxtaposing the Kapara is the Spydiechef, where the two knives share a lot in common in design,, size, shape and intended use. I almost bought the Spydiechef a couple years back and its still on my wishlist. I can't recall precisely who said this, but I think it was SliceyDicey who said "The Spydiechef is 80% kitchen knife and 20% EDC knife while the Kapara is 80% EDC knife and 20% kitchen knife" which I think is a good way of describing the two knives. For that reason the Kapara is one of my go to knives in the kitchen: veggies, meat, blocks of cheese, doesn't matter. The Kapara can cut nearly anything with ease.
    What I like about the Kapara the most is the handle. The Carbon fiber looks great and the contouring that was done to round it off gives it a comfortable feel in hand. It is the #1 thing I would emphasize in the review. And the blade shape is pretty good too. All those curves on the spine of the blade are landing spots for your index finger or your thumb. You can actually choke up much further on that blade where your index is nearly behind the tip and it will still feel comfortable. The only minor downside to the handle is that it gets slick when wet, which in the kitchen it gets wet frequently.
    There are some things I do wish were done differently. For one, the steel type. S30v is a great steel but for kitchen use cutting through oily meats, cheeses and wet veggies the LC200N would have been a better choice. I think they opted not to do this so it didn't completely obsolete the Spydiechef but to me it would be an obvious improvement of the knife. Perhaps a sprint run is in the works for the future, but who knows?
    Second major gripe is the nub where the plunge grind meets the edge. When open its a great guard to catch your finger from riding up on the blade. When closed it will push your finger off of the compression lock cut out. And the very beginning part of the edge can be felt when the blade is closed. Alistair Philips, the designer of this knife, is aware of this flaw. He has a youtube channel where he instructs his viewers on how to fix this through the use of an electric dremel grinder and some tape. His fix is to add on a sharpening choil where the plunge and edge meet, which is something you can do yourself if you got the tools. I've learned to live with it but anyone new to the compression lock may hate this about the knife.
    The name is derived from the Redback spider which is indigenous to Australia. Alistair Philips is Australian. For that reason the back spacer on the Kapara is a red color. Other than that I think you did the Kapara a lot of justice in the review. I really hope you get one of your own someday because who knows, maybe Shadowman or Mr. Amazing is watching!

    Got one of these a few days ago when Grayman had all their knives at 30%(!) off, so final cost shipped was $142. Should be arriving soon, I'm pumped!
    I love how well you articulate everything about this knife in the video, & the B-roll using it & pocketing it really helps a LOT.
    You & your girl do such an amazing job with the channel, man, & your enthusiasm for all things knife is delightfully infectious! You guys get as excited as I do when you really love something!
    Keep up the great work, dude! You guys ROCK!!! 😃😃😃

    I agree with you that there is nothing bad about the Kapara. I have one and it is such a great knife! If you don’t like the way other Spyderco knives are too wide in the pocket because of the tall blade and Spydie hole, this is the one to get. The Smock is also more narrow than other Spyderco knives but the Kapara is better than it in every other way. Well, the push button compression lock is pretty sweet on the Smock actually but still the Kapara is just awesome. I only carry a Smock because of legal restrictions in the city I live and work in. 3” cutting edge maximum.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 года назад

      Gotta hate length restrictions, but both knives are great I do love the grind on both the smock has a great hollow which I appreciate but I do think the Kapara is a bit better

    I really love this knife and consider it close to being the perfect carry knife. It is so sleek, sharp, and ergonomic. I carry it out to eat a lot because cutting a steak with it gets the eye of the wait staff and makes my wife roll her eyes. But it’s her fault because she gave it to me. But...I carry my Shaman most of the time because it’s definitely more robust. Thanks for showing some stroping. I need to learn that. Do you have a tutorial video on that?

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 года назад

      I do have a couple videos on stropping but im going to do another one very very soon, so stay tuned

    • @beyproctor7673
      @beyproctor7673 3 года назад

      Oh yeah. Stropping is so easy and makes a big improvement to a sharpened edge. I have a hanging strop I use for straight razors and my knives. Get the flat kind that is glued to a stick though. I wish I had one of those.

    Seems like a workhorse of a knife. Wish they would start putting the lanyard hole vertical in the backspacer instead of on the grip. How do you like the convex grind as compared to your regular way of sharpening knives?

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 года назад +1

      I dont mind a convex, i do like a v grind better, but my favorite convex is a freehanded convex i actually just put one on the maxamet knife and its ridiculously sharp, i was going to that about the lanyard and i said fckit 😆
