      Congrats on the design, finally managed to find one and get an order in. Phew! Been looking for one all summer long, they seem to be almost non-existent on the market these days. 😟
      Spyderco should really pick up the slack as far as oldies but goodies are concerned, rather than churning out exclusive after exclusive after exclusive. Besides, Kapara deserves an exclusive too (besides that butt ugly grey 20CV one).

    While I'm not really a fan as a general rule of Spyderco's, I do respect their apparent engagement with the Knife Community, and the overall consensus of the quality of their knives. If I were to ever buy one, I could see it being this one, I just like the shape and aesthetics of it.
    A comment you made in the video about ergonomics made me think of an inquiry: have you ever done a video that focused mainly or exclusively on the ergonomics and least-hotspots on the many knives you perform cut tests with, etc.? It could be an interesting angle not only for your viewers, but also any knifemakers out there that do watch these channels (and read comments) to get insight on what their buyers are pro and con about. Just a thought.
    Thanks for the detailed review.

  • @Smaug1

    I got the Spydiechef after watching your review on it a couple times. Someone on bladeforums forum said he moved onto a Kapara for food prep. I didn't have a compression lock yet and liked the look of it. Slim. So I bought one.
    Before seeing your review, I had the exact same critiques, with it being a little harder to grip and flip closed, easy to drop. It's not the best specimen of a compression lock, I think. The perfect lock on this knife would be an Axis lock. If it would just flip open and closed with the lock the way my BM 940 does, it would be PERFECT. It's even a bit more ergonomic than the 940, but that 940 action is pretty much unbeatable.
    This guy is not quite as nice as the Spydiechef for food prep. The narrower blade means it's not as slicey. But it's better at everything else, I think. (esp. being narrower in the pocket) The Spydiechef, being sharp so far back and being so wide at the base of the blade... gotta be careful when closing that one or it'll bite you but good.

    Very thorough and balanced review! For me, I would have to complain about the use of S30v in a knife of that price these days. When I can find select $99 knives with M390 the price becomes really hard to swallow. I'm really over the Spydie profit machine.

    Love that you compared it to the Benchmade 940. I have been trying to decide between the two, I know the 940 was a grail for you, but between the Kapara and the 940 which would you recommend the most?

    • @Polyfusia
      @Polyfusia 4 года назад

      I've seen them compared the consensus seems to be that the 940 is a classic but it's aging and that the Kapara is better at basically every the 940 does with better ergo's. The only advantage the 940 has is that it's slightly lighter.

  • @wartstein8814
    @wartstein8814 5 лет назад

    Been waiting for that review! Great one (review AND knife ;), thanx!
    Imho though quite expensive the Kapara is worth it´s money (I received mine about ten days ago). You do not pay for the steel, but the great design, fit and finish and the Carbon scales. I really do use all my knifes a lot, especially the Kapara now in many tasks, but I am really not the best sharpener on the planet... and discovered over time that S30V, how it´s done by Spyderco, is just perfect and enough of a "Supersteel" for me personally.
    As I already stated in a previous comment on another of your vids: Beeing an Endura-fan, I´d somehow wish for a "budget version" of the Kapara: FRN, Backlock, but same shape and blade. Could even be VG 10. Would be a nearly perfect Endura FIVE, and I even prefer backlocks to Compression locks (though I get that a knife designed for food prep is easyer to clean featurung a comp. lock)

    The design on this kills the Spydiechef for such a similar purpose folder. I really hope they do a sprint run with an LC200N blade & full titanium liners/hardware.... and before anyone hangs me for that comment, yes I own both, for me this is a much better overall design, for both in the kitchen & for edc, the Chef is good as a design & in stock form has better materials, but this design is better at everything & deserves a run in more premium configuration.

    When you were talking about the knife edge being exposed by the compression lock, you struggled to demonstrate the issue due to the size of your fingers. I assume your wife and kids have more slender fingers; couldn't you have had one of them jam their fingers into the gap to show how dangerous it was? I think that would have been most informative.
