I'm here after watching Sandman and other works of Tom Sturridge that I have since discovered. My lord, this man is a gift! He deserves so many more interesting projects that do justice to the powerhouse of talent he is! 🔥🔥🔥
‘Remaining’...‘Sweet Bitter’...’Being Julia’....’A Waste of Shame’(in which Tom Sturridge first broke my 💔) I’ve only listed those that I really like.... besides ‘Like Minds’ & ‘Sandman’, of course! Take care & be well! 🙏🏻💔🙏🏽
Mary Shelley and Far From the Madding Crowd are both great performances by him as well! He's got wonderful range! I also met him several times at NYCC last week and he's super sweet and humble. Even more reason to love him!
@@DayDay80631 Yes I've watched those and he's so wonderful in them! I wish I can meet him one day but unfortunately I live way too far away from all these comic cons. Perhaps one day! ☺️
how amazing that one can write like that, and that someone can read it with all the emotion and passion with which one feels it was originally written. What joy, and what aweful, awful pain.
That was brilliant. Amazes me how Tom and these other artists could read or recite without any errors in their speech. So talented, and very attractive. 😊
As you’re here - I’m happy to tell you that Grace Norton lived to age 91! She was a noted essayist, & as her specialty was the life of Montaigne we can safely assume that she was witty... I think that she & The Master had known each other for a long time, as both were from the same part of the world & probably were part of a literary elite, on whom some of the characters in Henry James novels might have been based: I’m so happy with Tom Sturridge’s reading of this letter - full of emotion for a friendship that went way back: I’m also grateful that I’m around to hear it... May I recommend the Audible recording of Tom Sturridge & Jake Gyllenhaal in ‘Sea Wall/A Life’: a hit stage production, it’s not a duologue, but both readings are ultimately about the dilemma of Belief... Blessed Be! 🙏🏻💔🙏🏽
“Everything passes, everything changes - Just do what you think you should do....” Bob Dylan: ‘To Ramona’ It’s extraordinary to hear Henry James write with such passion to a beloved friend! Fine reading, by one of the most beautiful voices, ever! 🙏🏻💔🙏🏽
I have not even heard this one yet, I'm kind of clamoring my way through these Letters before I get too much and have to take a breath, but. It is intoxicating. Real. I love them These Letters...... I have rarely seen anything with so many views and so few dislikes. at this moment there are 0 dislikes. I LOVE this. You can have emails when I'm gone!
This man and this letter make me feel more heard and understood than some well meaning, loving people in my life. This guy gets it and the Actor truly brings it to life.
How can this man so accurately communicate his emotions via this extraordinary letter by Henry James to the audience? Rarely in this series have i been so moved by an actor’s performance reading a letter.
He has the look, but I questioned his choice as Dream, especially after the great voicework of James McAvoy on the audiobook. After hearing this reading, I question it no more. Super excited for Sandman on Netflix.
@Malcolm Thomas Jr: THE VOICE - yes! If you’re with Audible, there’s a reading of ‘Sea Wall/A Life’ by Tom Sturridge & Jake Gyllenhaal: it’s not a duologue, but both stories convey the dilemma of Belief, & both convey almost unbearable emotion... The play was an off-Broadway success, not surprising when two beautiful actors, at the top of their game, are featured here...so maybe you’ll enjoy it,too! Take care & be well! 🙏🏻💔🙏🏽
@@thefox1169: If you’re referring to James McAvoy, it’s a (set of?) dramatised readings of ‘The Sandman’, which you can find on Audible, along with lots of other goodies (like ‘Sea Wall/A Life’, with Tom Sturridge & Jake Gyllenhaal reading the text) Treasured readings include Donna Tartt’s own reading of ‘The Secret History’... 🙏🏽💔🙏🏻
Tan conmovedor no puede llegar a ser... Lo único que quisiera hacerle oír a este gran actor, son aplausos, por tan magnífica interpretación, de tan profundo contenido.
Astonishing!!!!!!! Can this be read any other way? Surely it would be an undeniable travesty! What a gifted reader! This document was not so much read as felt! Bravo!!!!!
Still astounded that humanity as a whole has ended up with the benefit of so many letters between friends - modernity has done away with that for good or bad.
Wow ,.....to have a male friend so passionate about what life can become without sexual interests? Hope, faith , endurance, courage to Surrender to what we don't know 😉 To give Hope to a friend passionately in beautiful timeless style.... A true friend.
life is the most valuable thing we know anything about and it is therefore presumptively a great mistake to surrender it while there is any yet left in the cup.
Sadly, there are times when people will know with complete certainty that the effort really isn't worth it. Live as a resident for several weeks in the average nursing home.
Had to turn the sound off and read the subtitles, as I found the reader's over-exaggeration extremely distracting to the hugely important message in the text. He is perhaps a great actor, but for this letter, maybe a bit over the top.
Life is not a problem to be solved. It's a mystery to be lived. James was so ignorant (and yes, I've read him) of what life really is, no wonder he went on and on. This is just rambling rubbish. A novelist is not the same thing as a theologian or philosopher, and it is to them that we should look for helpful thoughts about the meaning of life.
I hear what you say, but I disagree. I think the source of this person's (whom I have not read) motivation to write this letter is a place of caring and love. Whether it is ignorance or just stupidity, I don't know or mind, because we can all do with a bit more love. At least he tries. Have a lovely day, Figaro. Be well.

What an immense talent. He holds emotions so raw and unfiltered it forces you to feel.
One cannot help but to be totally engulfed by the sheer intensity and desperation of these words and the brilliant reading of Tom Sturridge!!
