If I can ask - What are the usual qualifications needed to become a tramway driver where you live? Is this something a 30yo can start looking up to as a career or does gathering the knowledge and studies take a long time? Thanks in advance!
@gabrielromancena4788 30 yo of course you can. I was a bus driver and became a tramway driver at 43 yo . you need a car license. A bus or coach license is better. Usually the tramway training is done within the transport company !
@15:15 to the right is the royal library, to the left the national archive. (the buildings are linked together at ground level under the elevated tramway) I worked in the library building for almost a decade and was there when the extension to the storage area (magazijn) was build (the bit the tram passes under). There used to be a public multistorey car park next to the building, next to central station, with some siding/turning loop on the roof for the trams. We used to look out onto it from the meeting rooms :) But as the road there was closed to the public, and the car park was removed, they changed the layout of the tracks, also the entire level of the trams was changed.... A part of the old road is still in use, for access to the underground car park that is there now.
I was wondering what it takes to become a tram driver? Do you just apply and they give you the necessary training? I love the content you make, keep up the good work.
I've been a tram/lightrail driver and am now a train driver. You just apply and they test you. At first they take you for a drive in a tram to see how you react when driving for the first time. After that, there will be testing for medical, reaction, short term memory, intelligence. There is also a psychological test and a session with a psychologist. Pass? Then you'll receive training. After you pass a bunch of written tests and practical exams, you get your 'drivers license' for tram.
Nice and very relaxing video. Just one question: How do you stter that tram? There doesn't seem to be a power lever, so how do you accelerate and brake?
I see lots of cars along with the tram tracks. Nice to see that people are actually allowed to own cars in Amsterdam 🙂 And nice that bicycles and cars have separate roads.
Between colleagues, it is a custom to greet each other during the shift 😉 By the way, we also wave to bus drivers of other companies. Sometimes I even greet train drivers at NS when I happen to pass a train, but that is more rare.
Wish the states would have High speed rails like most countries do. To many politicians feeding the hands of Big Automotive industries to ever make that happen. Maybe one day...
@@Trammeneer Hopefully. Regiocitadis Lines 3 and 4 are very nice and I heard the GTL drives very well + line 1 is very beautiful. I heard from many drivers that the Avenio drives really bad, is that true? Personally I really like it. Stay safe in your job and good luck with your career!
We have a system called OV-chipkaart which means that people have a card through which people check in and out. Nowadays it is also possible to check in/out with your bank card. This can be done inside the tram. For visitors, there is also a ticket machine in the tram itself.
The right-hand button sounds a bell to warn traffic and pedestrians. It sounds like a buzzer in the cab, but it's a pleasant bell sound outside. The left-hand button is the horn, which produces a harsher sound, like on a car.
i think to accomodate multiple lines, more vehicles or maybe longer vehicles in the future. One time i saw a video of a double length tram in the hague
The driver's incessant head shaking as he operates the tram appears only partly due to meter reading, and is distracting from what otherwise is an engrossing video.
😂 lol, it is because of the tram moving and shaking, but since I apply stabilization to my videos, it seems like only my head is moving because the rest is stabilized. I am not shaking my head for fun. Glad you otherwise enjoyed the video
Why is this so relaxing to watch? Needs a good trance beat though xD
I am a Tramway driver in France in Bordeaux ! Alsthom Citadis 302 and 402 I really enjoy this !

Man, imagine living in a place where the trams go directly to/through the libraries....
Every librarians worst nightmare lol!
But in all seriousness, it would be cool!
In my city trams only go through puddles ✨
Every US Republicans worst nightmare! At least two things they hate in one!
Watching every minute of this! And loving it! YES!
What a view trams on elevated tracks!
I live in Auckland, New Zealand. We used to have those same timetable displays for our bus network until we changed to LCD panels.

In Germany it is pretty much like you said. You just need a drivers license

Leuke rit. Wat is het verschil tussen een knipperende negenoog en gewoon wit?
Knipperend betekent dat we alsnog moeten opletten overig verkeer dat wellicht voorrang op ons heeft.
Nice and very relaxing video. Just one question: How do you stter that tram? There doesn't seem to be a power lever, so how do you accelerate and brake?
Trams in The Hague use pedals (with the exception of the RegioCitadis express trams), this has been the standard since the PCC trams in the 50's

When did you drive the tram through a library? Maybe it was a translation error?
Around 15:12 we pass through the building of the royal library (Koninklijke Bibliotheek). But I see your point - we don't see any books ;)
Should say under not through.
@@Trammeneerya cause I'd would have been not just surprised but astonished to see you drop off or pick people in a library isle LOL

Is it mandatory to wave at other trams for safety reasons, or is it just pure friendliness? :)

This is tram, US cities are too big to have efficient tram network and even if they have light rail like this they treeted as part of metro system.

Is the blue diamond at the stations where you’re supposed to stop the front of the tram?
Most likely yes and its indicator you usally see in train networks. Its to prevent train/tram cars not fit the station platform
Monster street???
Are the trams free to ride? I don't see any payment/ticket machines by the stations.
