she is art. she doesnt need to be on the charts, she just do what she loves to. I love what shes doing anyway. She is the one i admire the most.
Why is Nelly automatically "loopy" or on "drugs" for simply being open, positive and real? I've been watching multiple interviews she's done for 'The Ride' and I love how in-depth and retrospective she is about her life and music. I wish some of my faves did an interview half as well as this.
Anyway, 'The Ride' is a great album. I think the alternative-pop sound suits her very well but it's not too different to the point where it's an anti-pop star album. Loads of catchy tunes. It might not be commercially successful but I think more veteran pop stars such as her are caring less and less about charts and instead, are actually about making music they love.

It's the portuguese genes, we tend to act like this when we are happy and use a lot of weird metaphors and we take our time to tell a story. She's not out of her face, it's just the way we are.
True! Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins), came from grunge and heavy music to a simple, piano/accoustic guitar style music, and now he calls himself William Patric Corgan, the full name. I think that's the evolution of artist. Being in charts at least ones is a blessing already. And they will always have their true fans.

This is the saddest Nelly Furtado Interview... it's very real and raw, but I don't feel there was any connection with the host. She seems a little tired yet she wants to connect with the interview.
The host doesn't make it easy.

Yeah, she talked about that in another interview. She enjoyed the music but not so much how the album blew up worldwide. Like, all of the success that came from it. She felt that it wasn't something she could handle. She had a breakdown during her Get Loose Tour backstage so I think that's why these days she's staying lowkey
I wonder why she didn't talk about her Spanish album. Not only is it amazing, it was also a big hit.

I’ve been a Nelly Furtado fan since day one, but she really doesn’t seem like herself at all here. Seemed strange back when I first saw this interview too. She’s basically vanished from the spotlight now, so it’s hard to know, but hopefully she’s doing better.

Nelly has the potential to become a commercially successful artist again, but it's very clear that she doesn't want the part that comes with it. Giving up her own artistic freedom as an artist and the simple life and privacy. That's something we have to accept. We should be just thankful, for we what she gave us to that point.

People (especially men) really like to think all women who have power, are sexy and mainstream are puppets.

This interviewer is annoying. Constantly asking her about her life, what she thinks of the past. Ask about the music! The stuff she's there for! Not drawl on the past.

Is she actually on something here? I've watched most of her interviews from this week promoting 'The Ride', and she has always been a little hyper and loopy..... but this is something else. The darting eyes, lack of focus, physical tics, odd voices she is putting on, sniffing, restlessness.... bizarre.
Still, she's a fascinating woman and she still sings so beautifully live. This was certainly one of the more interesting interesting q interviews.
From what I can tell, she has always been like this. She admits that she's actually a socially awkward and shy person, so I think that she overcompensates for her nervousness by playing up her quirkiness and being overall hyper and loopy.
I'm the same way, actually. I'm really introverted and I have intense social anxiety, so I overcompensate by playing up my quirkiness when I'm in a room with a lot of people.
POObumpoopo She has in mind that people can only hear her voice, so she's focused on that. And it's more difficult to communicate that way.. without relying on physical expressions and body language, you have to make your voice playful and entertaining! She doesn't control her physical expressions consciously here like on her other non-radio interviews..
I'm sure anyone would seem a little loopy after a long promotional schedule like hers. She was just in the uk, could be jet lag.
She went to the UK more than a week after this was taped... Canada was her first stop. I should clarify that I wasn't criticising, it's still a great interview and I understand how stressful doing promo can be. But i'm a big fan and have watched ALL her interviews, and this one does seem much more oddball than the usual. :)
Well on 23:55 when she's praising the hotel she says "smoke" lol. I think she did well on the interview. The guy seemed like a genuine fan and she answered as best as she wanted to. She seems like a private person.

I'm not even ten minutes on and thinking is she on weed? I normally do not judge but I got kinda scared viewing this interview. She seemed to be in so much pain, avoiding eye contact and kudos to the interviewer for keeping up with her words. I love her but I hope she is good mentally.

swarmsea Well she's focused on how her voice sounds for people because they don't have an image like we do here and she hears his voice from her headphones not his mouth, and also she does look at him from time to time to make sure everything's ok.. Perhaps it's just more professional for radio that way? I don't know.. But anyway, I think she's a great communicator!

Nelly brings up a topic and his response is automatically “I want to get to that”. SHE’S BRINGING IT UP NOW, TALK ABOUT IT NOW! Nelly is such a great person to interview but the interviewer tries too hard to stay on script and she seems so tired of it.

Nelly Furtado is good but Marante is better
Say what you will, but there is no denying Nelly is not the little cutie she used to be. She is a "has been." She got rich, and gave up on being a musician. The only truly successful musicians are the ones who are able to persist, and consistently produce great music. I always compare musicians to the most successful musicians (The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Sarah, U2, etc.). They are legends, and their music will forever be remembered. I liked Nelly, but her time is up. I am proud that she is Canadian, but she has lost her soul.
The woman is 40, ofcourse she isn't the same person as she once was. And I reckon people don't take as much pride in being called 'cute' anymore once they've reached a certain age. Also, what's wrong with becoming rich by squeezing out albums and going on huge amounts of huge tours? You can't say she doesn't persist. She experimented with different styles and sounds, became a successful pop singer, didn't like it, took a break from music to find her own voice and creativity again and decided to just do her thing without wanting it to have huge mainstream success... THAT's true musicianship...

U totally dont get her as an artiste...she is a true artiste and I think she has truly followed her passion to make her own kind of music ..she is making great music still ..what do u even mean by her time is up...she is living life like she wants and that's great
