This is 10/10. I’m about to embark on the exact project. This video allows me to know exactly what to expect. tho I can’t believe you didn’t take it out for a spin at the end of the video to wrap things up. I can’t wait to see what you have next with this car
Thanks a lot. Part of why we started this channel was to keep motivated on our projects. If you liked the 300ZX content and you haven't already, please subscribe as we also have a 300ZX Turbo that has not made it to the channel yet that is currently undergoing some major work. This video was pretty detail oriented, and it's hard to strike a balance between showing too much with the level of effort it takes versus leaving out content and keeping the video shorter. How did you feel about the level of detail shown?
@@Dan_And_Daves_Garage Hey there! Just wanted to share that I am currently working on an '89 Z31, and I have to say, the video I watched was a lifesaver. The level of detail was amazing, and it gave me the confidence I needed to tackle this project.
Glad you enjoyed the video. I have more 300ZX content planned and we are actively working on our 1986 300ZX Turbo that has not made an appearance on this channel yet.

Just about to take on quite the project with an Australian 50th AE, and its go the turbo engine swapped into it (they only came NA over here) really looking forward to it, definitely daunting but exciting as well!
Nice, we are currently editing putting our old Z31 300ZX turbo back together after it was stripped down, so if that sounds interesting to you, make sure to subscribe
You just need to start simple and find one that is already complete and original. This way, you learn basic maintenance and fix things as they break. When you get more comfortable, you can begin buying "barn finds" and doing basic restorations. Stay away from barn finds initially or bikes that are in pieces or incomplete. Hopefully, this helps.
Great video, my Z is currently having issues and I haven’t been able to drive it in a few months. After running for a while it would begin to smoke and overheat. Is that just the fault of the radiator or what more could it be?
The simplest thing would be to make sure that there are no air bubbles in the coolant system. One of the spill-free bleeding funnels makes the job really easy, and they are cheap. If it's still overheating, I'd probably get one of the headgasket test kits that changes colors by testing your coolant for exhaust fumes. This way, you don't throw parts at it if there is a more serious issue at hand. I personally only have had old brass radiators be a little weepy, but never really the cause of overheating. I replaced the radiator on my 80 series when it was leaking, and it never overheated. Make sure you have all the fan shroud plastic and have properly bled clean coolant. These cars aren't known for overheating easily, but aren't impervious to neglect. Hopefully this helps.
Solid critique, we are still learning and trying to make engaging content that's worthwhile watching. I am currently waiting on parts for it so a driving video will come eventually.
In reality it's all nuts and bolts. Just a lot of steps to reach the belt and the added pressure that if you screw up you will destroy all your valves if you are off by more than a tooth. Besides that, no real special tools besides a puller to remove the crank pulley. Plenty of really good guides on youtube and forums to follow directions with a lot of tips and pointers available.
Actually drove it around and never managed to get footage of it before my son was born and all of a sudden 2 seaters were no longer top priority. With that said, I am actively working on it now to fix some nagging issues and aiming to have part 2 out late April/early May
They are obviously old, rusty, and a bit sooty. But nothing that I wouldn't expect given the age and unknown miles. If you noticed anything wrong that I didn't catch please let me know, part of why I post content is to learn and get better.
Good point - not a lot of use in criticizing without offering any information! But I do have to agree that those plugs are looking very rich. And I’d say the engine is probably burning oil. Also, there’s a spark plug tool included in the factory tool kit in the trunk. Easier to use (to me, anyway) than the fuel hose trick, though it obviously does work!
PART 2 IS NOW AVAILABLE HERE!

The white with burgundy interior combo is so 80s I love it. I agree, not fast but cool to cruise around in.

@@Dan_And_Daves_Garage thanks for the tips, will do all of those and report back on how it’s looking
SUCH A LENGTHY VIDEO AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN TAKE IT OUT FOR A SPIN. 😢

How hard is it to replace the timing belt?

Oh and a piece off wide masking tape will stop bits falling into ur intake
Good tip
Just thought don't put injector nozzles on hard surface or keep touching them regards rick
Thanks for the tip
what happened to the second part??????????????????????????????????

Can you spruce up my 300zx 1986. I have no car mechanic knowledge
What's wrong with it? I can at least help by giving some pointers
Jesus! He thinks those plugs look normal ffs
