Rewiring the injectors doesn't truly make a difference other than cleaning up the harness, as the ecu only has 2 drivers from what I remember. good job overall, although the oil pan uses a full gasket. Not a fan of the paper exhaust gaskets, the graphite style do better! Be sure to run the turbo spark plugs, NGK coppers. Wideband O2 typically needs to be 12-18in after a turbo, should tell you in the sensor instructions. Make sure you run premium fuel, may have to pull some timing to keep it safe. Keep up the motivated work!
Your going to love thesetup on there. If everything is all good with your motor you can grab a manual boost controller for the low and turn up the boost to 10-12 psi!
@@Dakemp240 yes! You’ll be fine. I ran 11 psi when I had no intercooler and ran up to 12 with intercooler. I’ve heard some people going ip to 14 psi but I believe you’ll be super close to maxing out injectors.
Just randomly found this video and it's kind of a god send. I'm accumulating parts for an na2t swap right now on my z31 which is almost exactly the same as yours. Are you planning on going standalone down the line with a bigger turbo? I'm doing a built t3 and a EFI goldbox on my build (expensive but maybe worth it) and would be interested if you had any thoughts or suggestions regarding those vs the stock conversion. I watched your video driving it as well and would definitely say that you could use a new rotor, cap and spark plug wires asap to clear up that misfire. I've been having similar issues and have also found that these z31s are very particular about what plugs you use (they only like the ngk coppers), the platinum and iridium plugs can actually cause rough idle and misfires at lower rpms. Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing more of this car!
I appreciate the interest in the videos! Not planning on upgrading from the stock turbo or ECU anytime soon. The VG platform is good but the engine is too large... making it just pure hell to work on. If the engine lets go or I get tired of this power level I may swap with a 4cyl turbo or a high compression LS. In regards to your engine management questions I wouldn't use any piggyback systems, just use a proper standalone. AEM, Micro or Mega Squirt units are more affordable and very user friendly. Just have to find a good tuner.
Yo! Great vid I’m about to start this project this weekend. Why did you take off the power steering rack? I wasn’t planning on doing that but you got me thinking.
How long did it take you for the whole installation? Also would you recommend finding all the parts as you did or just swapping the motor? Currently thinking about a na2t
Bro Na2t takes like 4 hours lol... I ran My 1st na2t at 14 psi no problems with a gfb boost controller... also harbor freight has an engine suspender bar thing for 100 bucks .. used it on my z33.. I fully support anybody putting out z content but your green my dude get your knowledge up get on the forums with the OG member not the mods an builds page for all the children that got kicked from the OG forums... get rid of that sequential injection idea get a beefy fuel pump and some palnet feul rails.. bigger turbo.. megasquirt with a pNP harness from Felix and your good for 600hp if you get a 30A and upgrade the axles ..
Haha I appreciate the comment, I agree I am green when it come to Z31s. But this video shows that people with minimal knowledge can get out there and take a swing at it! Its all fun but these VG engines are not worth getting to know. LS swap or turbo KA coming soon!
Lol why you salty a lot of the people on mods group are the same once on z31 group. I post most of my stuff on mods and it’s 62/62 setup on a vg33e. I find z31 group to big and full of pointless posts a lot more than the mods group.
@@Dakemp240your good dude it’s not really a 4 hour job he’s making stuff up. Unless your busting your ass like an hourly worker and have a car with no issues.
you're turboing an NA engine?? I'm pretty sure the NA has higher compression ratio than the turbo with z31s. That means you can still turbo it but it will be a lot less reliable. And that means you can't just use a turbo ecu you have to get a standalone and get it tuned. I know this is the case with z32s and I'm pretty sure it's also the case with z31s
Completely wrong the NA is higher compression but not that high. The turbo came with low compression due to old fuels and the need to keep it safe if someone put 87 in the tank. With modern 91-93 octane the car is more than reliable on stock turbo ECU. Some of the highest HP vg30 engines are actually just NA engines since their more readily available.
The Z32 VG is different than the Z31 VG engine. And people turbocharge NA engines all the time in these cars... I had it done to my 87. And you can use the turbo ecu, infact you have to use it if your are doing a stock swap and you don't have to get it tuned if you're running stock with stock boost. but if you want, NISTUNE is probably the best way to go because they just modifiy the Z31 ecu. but there are other things to consider.... the idle control valve for example. turbo ecu looks for the turbo idle control valve, etc. point is, it can be done just fine.
Bro literally hit everything on that tie rod except the part that would have actually made it come loose without damage!! 😂
"hit what it goes through"
Yep my orginal tie rods were like that too, sometimes ya gotta use a tool, used a tool took like 1 min and it was out.
Man! I used to have 2 z31's. I miss it soo much! This is sweet bud!
Can't wait to see more
Thank your for responding. All the very best

Good morning brotha from da808 watching this like 👍
I can't believe you did this in only 20 hours. You have some real skills. Love the engine lift idea. Did you break any exhaust studs?
Didn't break any studs. Soaked all hardware in PB blaster for a couple days.
Your going to love thesetup on there. If everything is all good with your motor you can grab a manual boost controller for the low and turn up the boost to 10-12 psi!
The stock fuel map will work with 10psi??

Very impressive, nice job man keep up the work
Makes me wanna turbo my RB so bad!!!
Do it!
I pulled my engine for a full rebuild (in progress) and had that exact same concern about the oil pan bolts 😅

You need to remove it to get the oil pan off.
Where is the Turbo Charged D21?
Coming back soon, need to get her pulled out and knock the dust off.
How long did it take you for the whole installation? Also would you recommend finding all the parts as you did or just swapping the motor? Currently thinking about a na2t
Took 20hrs or so start to finish, would recommend converting the NA. Removing the engine would be recommended.
Oil pressure unit go bad all the time. Simple fix.
Is it possible to put in a turbo manifold that is not from a z31 ?
If the runner line up and injectors seal you're good. I guess the hood doesn't need to fit
where did you get that stock turbo and etc? curious so I know where to look if I ever need one
great vid btw!!
Everything was sourced from Market Place
Is it possible to do it without the turbo crossmember ?
Yes, you will need to cut the drivers side motor mount off and weld in a custom one.

Have an exact turbo one. Any chance on working on mine?
Unfortunately, no. I barley have time for my cars haha

Do you have stock internal I heard that car can handle 450 no problem
I'm just about over the 150hp too hahah
I was to the understanding that this motor cannot be turbo'd.
No issue installing and running turbos on the N/A engine. Just need to watch the AFRs
Yes. Pulling this motor is easy. Do not try and do this with the motor in. You will regret it
