Trucking and Freight Market May 2024: Some Good, Some Bad, Some Ugly

- Diesel prices are finally on their way down, together with rejections it seems. The scary part is that when diesel goes down, so do rates as brokers save on fuel surcharge. However, reefers and dry vans saw some improvements this week!

Im out, running my last load, I'm parking the truck, makes no sense, 100.000 miles per year maybe less, but the depreciation that comes with the milage is absurd, I'm starting as a company driver next week just for my own mental health is better, God knows I've tried.
Too many are in the same situation, God bless you
Am actually considering to make the same decision. Park my truck and go be a company driver. Be safe out there!
Any good companies you could suggest? Good luck
It's really rough out here for a trucker. However, you through analysis is greatly appreciated. Love your attention to detail.
Excellent resource, not just from the presenter Miranda but also from the posts which gives a lot more insight. Thanks Miranda and everyone who posts.
Thank you for the update Miranda!
My favorite part of every video is the “Ready? Let’s Go! 💪” 😁
Good to see You Smile!
Thank you for the information 💯😎🚛
Looking lovely as always. Have a great weekend hope you can get some rest and forget about all this crap at least for a little while lol
Thanks for your insights. Preciate ya!
🇨🇱 Thanks for the update, appreciate your work
Last two weeks been terrible! I rarely see a load more than $2 for dry van. Something to investigate if you could please is the DAT loadboard influence on market prices. I mean, when you look at a posted load there is a box where it shows you the last 14days rates. Pretty much loads are pretty close to that number. Brokers use this data prior to posting a load. Which means DAT is playing a crucial rule keeping the rates locked up those ranges. Why would a broker post a load higher than avg data in that area?! I know there are many factors to price, but I believe this one is big! Thoughts?!
Its a game. The brokers wont tell you what they will really pay. The capacity information is spot on here. Raise your rates or dont move it depending on area. Some of the brokers dont care they wont budge. Some do. Most play a hard
game so the tough service. Remember the brokers are not your friend by any means. Dont tell them your personal business. Just raise your rates and see what happens.
Thanks for doing the homework for many, being new to the trucking world I would love to speak with you soon. When will you post your new video haha!
Can you show haz mat rates as well, if possible? These videos are great. Thanks
Good article about a segment of trucking that does make money, but very time sensitive. May 10 edition of mpls Star and tribune businesssection, page D1,"Making floral gifts possible".I did nursery stock in spring, dirt in summer and propane/LP gas in winter.
Looking for the vids u mentioned you are doing!
👍👍 one thumbs up wasn’t enough, completely thorough as your videos all seem to be.
I don’t know if you have a teaching credential or not but you should look into teaching either at a community college that operates a trucking school or better yet teaching (for compensation of course) a course for the OOIDA. You should contact them and have them look at your videos. 😉
This was my worst week in trucking all.loads ar 48k and tarp yea 2 things.i don't do
I’d caution against comparing same week with prior years unless you have an average of say 10 prior years for that week. Too much error in sample of two vs ten.
Thanks Miranda
This will get better. Just booked a load from Ontario to Phoenix for 1800$ and Phoenix back to LA for 2000$. Reefer of course. I've booked reefer loads this past week for $7/mile.
God bless your heart for your encouragement of us!
@@7ann7seven13 better times are coming 👍
Nice! Gratz
@@Stavros1977 Get rid Biden and it will
Oversized drop deck flat bed will always pay better. Everything costs more but truckers getting paid less than before inflation
Am I the only one that likes and can digest the information better with the table that she used instead of the graphs like usual ?!! Just a suggestion love the videos please keep them coming !! 🙏🏾❤️
Im so glad! I will keep making those tables then
Like this channel and chatting about it..
Thanks
First one here! Thanks Miranda for all your hard work. Without your insight, I might feel like a horrible businessman😬
We all are doing as much as we can
Stay strong buddy
The capacity glut might actually resolve itself if the fed actually raised interest rates for once, maybe even to the tune of bloated megas and lease to own companies getting flushed out because they can't get cheap financing anymore.
Think it’s Colorado helping us with a “lower fuel” .. $2.94/g …why can’t that be everywhere???
HEYYYYY LLLLLEEETTTTSSSGOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Thank u Miranda 🎉🎉🎉
sure could use a good weather report
Miranda, if disregard the year or 2 that was extremely well. What does market look like when doing so? If things down 8% on a 5 year average, seems freight is up, just to many trucks
Volume is not an issue, it's the capacity that came in doing COVID that is sticking. So you are correct
@@TruckingMadeSuccessful Broker transparency is an important issue that’s is attributing to the low rates as well.
Ready!?? LET'S GO!!
Let’s chat about it
It’s strawberry season in Lakeland
Hey Miranda , any reports on freights coming out of Canada along the U.S. border ?
Unfortunately not but if I find something I will definitely post it up!
Come on Baroness, we need some good news for a change 😀
Hi can you talk about Colorado?
It's a pretty bad market, with the rest of the plains markets.
I got scam on a load what the next step to take to take there bond?
Through the safer web you will see the bonding company’s phone number, you will meet to call them
Miranda❤️❤️❤️❤️
I paid $3.13 at Mr.fuel in Meridian Ms. Today
I live in Dallas. Trust me Dallas is just like Atlanta..lots of loads..most of em paying next to nothing.
Hello Can you make for car hauling too please 😊
If I find data for car hauling I will definitely include it
TQL offered me a load from waiverly NY to Witchita KS paying $1800. 😂
U and Ronin are great! Ur alot cuter tho! 🤪
Freight is normal volumes just to much capacity
Seemingly a great point. I'd like Miranda to try and explain that.
Not in flatbed
@@joshcecil5892 what did you mean, not in flatbed? Loads are less or loads are more, but to many trucks, not enough trucks????
3.99 DIESEL ⛽️.. NOT HERE IN CALIFORNIA.. $4.99-$5.50
1.40 mile incoming. No demand in the freight.
👍🙏
Happy mother’s day
I actually gave up my trucking career other day because so tired of disrespectful people on road I just had enough.
Hey just remember the trucking industries see what is going on. With our country first just remember that in November
The past few weeks has been the worst I have ever experienced.
10+ years of driving here.
Past few days every single load I called on was gone within seconds of posting. This is midwest.
Time to retire or go local bro
Feel the same 😮
One of the best weeks I’ve had in a while for me
@@wrld-zu9yt you must be a broker
What equipment type do you run?
I need a huge favor. PLEASE do a video about this narrative about driver shortage
market is still bad.
This is the pandemic tail-end, the long awaited recession is coming and the trucking industry has been first in line the last 16 months, but now manufacturing and warehouse is being pressured so lay-offs have started.
I think we're at the bottom because simple economics. You can only run so long in the red. And the company's with bad business practices have when out of business. Hopefully I'm right things start to turn up slowly.
I hope so!
People are still blaming covid this was 3 years ago
It’s the 1970s again.
Not exactly true… I ve been sitting in IA for 2 days to get load for dry van for 1,55$ per mile just to drive to another dead area….
Oh no! Where in IA are you
I learned her videos aren’t accurate
Get on the load boards about 1-2 am.
Bosnians in Iowa don’t wanna haul cheap freight haha
Bosnians in Bowling Green KY taking the cheap loads
@@wrld-zu9yt
The truck is their HOME, what should we expect?
I had a gate attendant in FL tell me MANY truckers in FL use their trucks as a home to live in , so they just drive around locally and try to park and sleep.
That is why there is NO AVAILABLE parking for trucks in FL unless you wanna pay 35/ nite.
@@7ann7seven13 idk about FL but the Bosnians in KY are very successful they’re just too lazy to look for decent freight and book whatever
Nobody is paying these months, let’s say you have 5 trucks, 1 will get ok load and by ok i mean 2$ a mile not more than that, and the other 4 will be driving for 1.50$ . YOU CANNOT compare last year or any other previous years with this year either, inflation is much higher and everything costs more, cost to operate and be on the road is more too the food, maintenance, etc… so don’t talk about past years.
C4yt
U$1.87????? Nawwwwwww ill go do something else! Absurd and i hope the truckers all stop and understand that without a mass strike nothing is going to change!!! Good luck for those accepting these pathetic loads!
🙏😎🆒🙌❣️
Reading the video title I thought about my first marriage…😳😳😳
😂
Too many wannabes out here!

Market may be bad, but this is still to be expected at this time of year, for dry vans. Inevitably, this will flip, always has.
Well this is produce season when it flip 😂😂😂
@albertkint9926 That is 1 factor, you're not going to see a $1 shift cause produce season. As the overall economy improves, interest rates fall and people are comfortable to spend you will start to see it change. Remember that the US literally tried to kill inflation by killing the economy. That slowed everything. The USA isn't a lemonade stand, it's a robust economy and if you can't manage your finances during inflationary times, you will not just lose profit, you'll lose your business. Unfortunately as more capacity ecits due to bad business management and financial planning, we who are left will reap the reqards in the next cycle during the upturn. Thats why you can buy 2019 freightliners with 290k miles for $35k right now. Dont see people complaining about thatm
if youre not a very very experienced business person stay away from
this industry like the plague
Thank you Ms Info appreciate you ones again that the question I wanted you to answer salute 🫡
Thanks
