Thank you so much! This video may be old and the game too, but you helped me a lot. All of the other videos on RUclips are either people speed running (without showing the equipment) or using tier 3 weapons and max level gear.
Wow. Just wow. I've tried other methods but this is by far the quickest and most efficient method. I previously had Fang as my Saboteur, but I realised that I lost my primary commando. Works so much better with Snow using Daze. Also, a good way to same money from using aegisols is to equip Tetradic Tiaras.
correct, I would love to see videos showing these guys been beaten (a) using low tech equip and (b) where things go wrong during the fight and they can recover and win. This video is just showing a perfect fight where everything falls right for the player.
Well.. in terms of the game I really enjoyed it gameplay wise once I got into it and adjusted to the system. The story, I think there's really a rich universe, history, and mythology set up but they didn't properly explore it. The focus of the story is on the characters and their development, which is some what needed for the theme but the characters and said development was weak. Basically had a lot of potential but didn't take advantage entirely.
You don't really need shrouds for this. finish off with a highwind too. also the spot with three shaolong gui near a save point and two long gui is even better :)
Great tactic! I used to have quite a bit of difficulty with these but not anymore! Got my first Dark Matter after about four-five kills. Thanks for uploading this!
dude was going thru and getting trophys before the second game comes out and saw how easy you made this look, tried it and although i dont have all the acc. i still kicked its ass, your guide rocks!!!
I had to use Fortisol and Aegisol to enter the battles and whenever he ran out of daze quite frequently fast. When ever he attacked I switched back to Tortoise, to minimize damage. I used both shoruds because it made it easier to get through recouperation and onto Tri-disaster. Plus if by chance I get a gold nugget instead of Dark matter, that was enough to buy them back + some. Not the mention the great CP! Thanks so much for the guide it helps ALOT and WORKS. Less than 2 hours and 5 DM :)
Hey dude, just wanted to say thanks. This method is really working for me now, I've got another 3 dark matter to farm and then it's back to platinum farming in Eden Plaza. This game is ridiculous for getting gil. I've had every trophy except treasure hunter for about a year, but I decided to come back to it to get the platinum since I'm off work atm. Just need to buy all my catalysts and I'm good to go!
Great job and thanks for the upload. These guys are the hardest for me because I could never get the kill during the first stagger. And I'm sure you know that the lower his health gets, the faster he attacks so it is a huge pain.
Whoa! I've been reading up on these, in anticipation for my first attempt at killing one, This was the first time I heard that they can be dazed. That takes a huge load off of my back. I use the daze method to easy-kill everything difficult that can be dazed, I had just assumed that these would be immune, like Oretoise and Adamantoise. Thank you very much!
Thanks a lot! This did help. I'm also using your video on the adamantoise for gil/trap farming. Bay is the most annoying thing ever though, It happens to me a lot.
@akasuki123oiiu I'm not entirely sure what you are asking. Roughly every chapter you gain access to new skills, stats etc on the Crystarium grid. Every time a character gets their summon or gets a tier 3 weapon, they get another attack in the atb bar. I do believe you get another somewhere in the crystarium stage. Basically, I suggest keep playing and leveling. It's pretty much impossible to get 6 attacks before the end of the game (unless you are very vary very patient)
Thank you so much! I've tried so many different techniques to kill these things, but nothing has been suitable to my style of playing. I didn't do your technique exactly, (Instead of two Devastations I have Perseverance just in case.) But without you I would have never thought to use Lightning's Synergist. Thank you!!!
Dark Matter is used to upgrade accessories only, to unlock long gui you need to do mission 50 something, it tells u to kill an adamantortoise, and as a reward u get a genji glove and long guis replace the toises. u get hermes sandles by dismantling a tetradic crown, and when u upgrade those with a uranite u get speed boots, alternatively u cn get speed boots by upgrading a tetradic tiara and dismantling it, also mission 34 nets u hermes boots as a reward.
@PlatinumGamer20205 His daze always stays on because all other debuffs have been inflicted, because of this, snow will continuosly cast daze as that debuff disappears when the target is attacked. His method is to attack while snow is casting daze because it allows him to deal higher damage while also preventing the shao from attacking.
@Tiwanacu That didn't happen to me too many times but it does happen, and in the video description you'll see "In the case that he decides to throw out an Ultima before you get him dazed switch to the sen/sen/sen paradigm and then back to whatever you were." You should survive it no problem if you switch quickly, then just go right back into what you were doing.
@spriddlez when he uses ultima switch to tortoise before it hits you! the itea is that use slow to give u time to attack, heal, and buff, including debuff, getting his chain gauge to 999.9% also helps when hes staggered to do more damage, if the stagger gauge is almost finished use highwind, if hes still alive either repeat the steps or just keep attacking cause their shouldnt be much left to do
Thank you so much for this. Your method is perfect, I got it to work on the second try, even got a kill through him slipping in a Bay once. (I used a Foul Liquid after Snow re-Dazed him) Hell I even got a Dark Matter! Thumbs way up.
That's why I couldn't beat more than one Shaolong gui. I never got daze to stick. THANK YOU Pazuzzo360PSN. I'm pretty sure I'm not subbed to you yet so I'll do it right now. I killed my first one easily but after that I couldn't kill one and it's because I never dazed him
@spriddlez Are you doing it as the video shows? The first daze after getting all the debuffs on is to give you time to set up all of your buffs and he shouldn't come out of the daze before you're ready, but you have to make sure that once you stagger him you are using com/sab/com so that your sab (snow) will keep throwing daze repeatedly. It takes practice but you can keep him dazed indefinitely, if you see him start to cast Ultima just switch back to sen/sen/sen and you should be fine.
I'm talking about what you said about not knowing which weapon it was that you upgraded. By the stats, it is very clear that it was the Power Circle. The other person was asking.
siii, este video es lo maaas, si vez que se apura mucho el shalong gui y te ataca volves a antes de la batalla , yo a lo sumo lo hago una vez, depsues lo mato trankilamente
Thanks for this, its the best way to kill these bastards. Sometimes it doesn't work because it decides to spam Ultima faster than Snow can do anything, but it's a lifesaver for me! THANK YOU
@calahoon22 It's a combination of 3 things really, Since it seems you know about genji glove we can put that aside (I was just being a bit sarcastic, I'm sorry). But the combination is genji glove - Enfire and Daze. The reason that you use Snow as a sab at the end is because he will spam daze = the damage from the enfire weapons and when daze is attached on the target = bling bling damage. I think I have hit him for like 700k+ by regular attacks when daze is attached :)
Ah, this was helpful. I never vs'ed Shaolong Gui's due to the fact you can't stagger their feet and knock them over. My first file, which is pretty much fucked up (though maxed out in CP), is able to kill these and Long Gui's but I have the incorrect gear and items (I bought a fuckload of random shit, didn't know what I was doing back then). My 3rd and best file just needs to complete a few Missions to unlock these, been Farming Traps, gotten 3 so far ):
Thanks, worked like a damn charm on the first try and I even got a Dark Matter, though it'll probably just sit in my inventory, since I've already gotten all weapons and accessories the "hard" way. Anyway, enfire+debuffing destroys this guy.
@Pazuzoo360PSN you're using the Save the Queen which is his Tier 3. It looks like you've got the Power Circle version of it though since there's no special mods and his STR is a lot higher than his MAG. kind of an interesting choice when you're having him use mostly magic. I was trying out the Umbra at first but then I realized I'll likely never use the ward abilities anyway so leaning more towards offense. Wild bear is definitely the safe bet but Sacrificial Circle is beast...
This method works great for me. It was a bit off for a while, then I realized that I was attacking the Shaolong just before its staggering from the saboteurs went away, which meant that Lightning hadn't cast Enfire yet. Instead I needed to wait a few seconds longer for her to cast it on Fang and herself, then I could attack and take the Shaolong down in one stagger. I can confirm that the Aegisol isn't necessary; I didn't use it once and got all the Dark Matters I needed (5) easily. :)
@mezrik100 Yeah, I personally changed the setup just a wee bit. Instead of having two AJAs and EHE (that's COM/SAB/COM and SYN/MED/SYN in the Eng version), I have HJH and EJE (MED/SAB/MED and SYN/SAB/SYN). Not only are Lightning and Fang more effective healers, but if you just have Snow as your debuffer, he will automatically stop casting debuffs when the enemy is stopped. Meanwhile, you can heal/buff to your heart's content, making pre-battle buffs even less necessary. :)
@EmmyIiciouS About the outrageous spam of Ultima.. I havn't noticed too much about it. Are you sure that you put up slow as fast as you can followed by daze? Usually he might be able to do one attack before I stagger him, and after that Snow will spam daze all the time which mean that the damage will be huge + he will not attack as much. Yes It's not there for a long time, but when It's spammed by Snow it will be attached alot :)
Damn, this video is AWESOME!!! I've had the worst problems with this idiot shaolong gui, even more so than long gui! That one was EASY compared to this one UNTIL I saw this video. Shit man, I'm killing him in no time despite only having one genji glove. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
Ha, nice vid. Kept dying to the stupid things, I just killed my first one thanks to this guide and he dropped like a clown. And the very first drop? A Dark Matter. :D
I actually went to try the area where there are two Long guis blocking the way, and inside that area there are 3-4 Shaolong guis there I got 3 out of 4 dark matthers once, went to the savepoint and saved and restarted the game. I think It's faster by killing 4 in a row and then reload, but I love the strategy! Bay can be a pain though, someone said that he wont cast it if you use veil but I confirmed that to be untrue.
This worked really well. The only problem I was having was it's damn Bay. If it hits my team with Bay, I essentially have to restart the fight because it screws everything up.
You need to be the seven c'ieth stone mission near the central expanse. They're in a circle, you can't miss em on your map. My recommendation is farming all the trapezohedrons BEFORE doing them because third tier weapons make it alot simpler.
@indieglee Daze, makes enemies not able to attack at all until you attack him with majic or physical attacks. Then it will were off. When Daze is on the enemy it's the perfect time to get buffs on the team and heal. Daze also icreases the damage dealt to enemies.
I know you posted this a long time ago, but thanks man, this method works really good. The only dangerous thing is the turtle's "Bay"-ability, but pain killers solve that problem.
Since there's no reason to farm the Long Gui I didn't ever come up with an "efficient method" I just killed it once for the trophy. I did it with the tier 2 gear I had. Daze does not work, summon to down it, debuff, get bravera/enfire on all 3, rav/rav/rav to stagger to 999 and then com/com/com and finish with a highwind as the stagger runs out. With low gear you'll get about half his life gone, then use an elixir to restore your tp and summon again to kill him on the next stagger.
Oh and I always use Lightning, Fang and Hope (Vanille if I need to use Death). Alot of people say Sazh is rather good, but I need Dark Matter to Upgrade his Weapon and his Stats are shit. Fangs Strength is at like 3,700, her Magics over 2,000. Lightning's balanced, with like 2,700 Strength and almost the same Magic. And Hopes got over 3,200 Magic. Just need Trapzohedron, Dark Matter, Scarletite, Adanantite, Perovskite, Uranite to get the last Trophy.
Ahh, I used to farm these guys before Chapter 12 ^.^. They were tough. The key was Daze and Enfire. It was a long time ago and unfortunately, I don't remember my setup anymore :(
@Nana9263 In case I'm not too late: one Adam is still roaming Pulse, just keep looking for him. The easiest way though is to simply return to Edenhall. If you go back a bit to the place where the 'toise fell through the glass you'll find another one in the open. Kill him, go back to the door (not through) and he'll respawn. The third method would be repeating mission 63, but that seems rather inefficient to me.
@AkatsukiXxXSephiroth As far as I know I don't believe there was any way to change them back, but from what I remember once they're changed there may have still been 1 or 2 of the normal kind left on the map (one of the ones around the middle I believe was a regular adamntoise, could be mistaken). If that's not the case I think there was one of the cieth stone missions that could also give you some to kill, it's been a very long time since I played though and could be wrong.
@kingmeat13 its used as a catalyst for some of the best equipment such as ribbons you need to get quite a few to upgrade different equipment to get the treasure hunter achievement for holding every weapon and accessory in the game
possibly, but not likely. with impril, curse, deshell it drastically lowers its defense, coupled with enfire its possible to do upto 500k damage or more on a mob. ive done it before BUT all my characters had tier 3 weapons along with 3 kaiser knuckles with genji glove. in this case i agree though. only snow had a tier 3 while fang and lightning had tier 2 yet they still were hitting for upwards of 200k+. it looks like a sound strategy though.
@ProjectSoldier Theres a spot in the Mah'habara caves between the teleport stone and the end of the caves. Just after the juggernaut there is a group of 3 cryohedrons and then just past that is a cryohedron and 3 puddings. Running back and forth between that will net about 18k cp per minute (with the growth egg) as well as bomb cores (one of the top 5 components). They always respawn between each other so no saving and reseting. COM/COM/COM with any 3 that have blitz and its cake
@JohnnyLeyenda Technically you should be able to do it where you are with the correct gear and if you can do it correctly. Being higher doesnt hurt your chances of surviving multiple attacks, but in the best case scenario you'll manage it so that he only gets his first starting attack and it won't matter. Even if he attacks more if you manage to switch to tortoise quick enough you should still have enough.
@KOTRobioto You may not have the damage to just be able to spike him down fast enough without keeping daze on him through the whole thing. Take a look at the first wave of attacks in the video in COM/SAB/COM around the 2 minute mark and notice how after I finish attacking daze is still on him. If you watch closely you'll see that I actually cancelled my last attack of that turn so as not to take off the last daze, and so long as he stays dazed he can't attack you, so try practicing that.
@alexxx8706 The way daze works is it is removed whenever you hit, that's why it works to have Snow spamming it so you can constantly reapply it getting the damage bonus. To keep daze on him in between turns though (which keeps him from attacking) you need to stop attacking after the last cast of Daze. You can see me do this in the first round of attacks in com/sab/com, I had 5 attacks queued up but if you watch close you'll see that I stopped after 4. On PS3 I believe it was the triangle button.
@Pazuzoo360PSN How can you say that though when the success rate of Daze is directly tied to his magic stat? Plus he had him go in there as a ravager to help stagger the turtle. I'm not so sure dropping his HP to 18k is all that bad - Lightning tops out at 20k and she didn't go red in the video.
And I don't know what you're talking about, because I never said I was or wasn't using a particular one. It's in the video description. Yes I was using a fully upgraded weapon in the video, at the time I was actually hunting for my dark matter though I wasn't. I was still using tier 2 weapons on Light and Snow when I was getting my dark matter.
I do it like this: FANG/LIGHT/VANILLE SEN/SEN/SEN SAB/SYN/SAB SYN/SYN/MED RAV/RAV/RAV COM/COM/MED COM/COM/COM Important to have slow on him asap. What I noticed today is that if you have Veil as a buff he does Ultima and if you do not have Veil he will do Bay, so make sure you have Veil, as Ultima does not do that much damage when SEN. Pretty easy actually, have beaten them for over a 100 times now I actually never tried Daze, will do now.
What weapon should I use for Snow? I thought about the sacrificial circle, since it severely cranks up his STR & MAG (1020/1020 max) but will drop his HP to 18,000 from 30,000. I don't use Snow at all really, I go with Fang Lightning & Hope 99% of the time but it's either Snow or Sazh for this strat and I'd much prefer Snow to be my Dazer. However again, I just don't know what weapon. I'm leaning on the Sacrificial Circle, Wild Bear or Feymark.
@TeaBagTactics You can get back to gran pulse yes, but as for where to get specific items my memory is a bit fuzzy. I think there were 3 genji gloves total you could get from 3 of the tougher cieth stone missions and I think you got sprint shoes by upgrading another accessory like hermes sandals, but I'm not 100% on that and I certainly don't remember which missions so it would again be best to try to find an online guide.
@darkshredder619 Check out my other 2 FFXIII videos that show how to grind efficiently, the whole point of them was to show that you could do all of that without spending a massive amount of time like you're saying, and I even got the Platinum Trophy as well. I was able to get the growth egg early and farm cp from the Adamantoise using Sahz, and then once my crystarium was high enough I was able to kill roughly 4-5 Adamantoise every 10 minutes, which means a lot of cp and gil from ingots.
@jordanz19952k8 Not much but you don't want to sell them, if you need to make gil stick with the adamantoise and platinum ingots, pretty much the best for gil. Farming dark matter is for the purpose of using them to upgrade equipment, since it costs 840k to buy them from the store its more efficient to just get them as drops from these guys.
@DeadBeats1990 The ones used here were from Power Circle and Gladius, though it really doesn't matter what you use. I actually used axis blade a lot more for Lightning in most fights.
@proadam9 What weapon you use for Snow here really doesn't matter since all he's doing is casting daze over and over and not doing any direct damage. The one in the video is his 3rd tier upgraded from Power Circle, really only used it to give him the 6th atb segment, you could easily leave him with a tier 2 weapon.
haha! man! this video just saved a lot of time and frustrations! i hated thoses shaolong guis bastards with my life! xD never used Snow before on the whole game so i didnt figure out how to defeat em easily... now i see why its important to know every character.. man thanx! im clos to get my platinum now! at last!
Hey thanks for putting this up, I went back to the game trying for platinum, one thing, my Lightning won't cast Enfire, even after librascoping and running the same setup, any idea why?
Another thing.. I find it better to have Sen,Sen, Sen at the top and at the bottom of the paradigm slots. Can't see why I need two of Devestation when I only use it at the end. with Sen,Sen,Sen at the top and at the bottom, I find it easier to quickly swith to it whenever he casts Ultima, no matther witch paradigm slot I am using.
@calahoon22 I agree it sucks pretty much to farm em. I just got my treasure hunter achievement yesterday, so my farming is finally over :) I can recommend you to farm at the spot where there are two long guis blocking the way. Inside that area you will face 3 of the shoulong guis, will neat you the dark matthers you need in no time :)
I'm going to try this method, I was using one similar to this but it seems like when ever I get this beast in low health it goes into desperation mode. It starts using Ultima frequently followed by Bay or Quake. Then again like many others I haven't been using Snow; I've been using Lightning, Fang, and Vanille (or Hope). It probaly helps using the character with the highest HP. Thanks
@jordanz19952k8 They won't change until you complete the circle of missions that are on the same map (the ones that trigger the cut scenes with the titan changing the weather).
I'm guessing either Wild Bear or Power Circle right? Considering Snow doesn't do much physical damage, and is a SAB for the most part, more magic stat would be beneficial right? Therefore go with Wild Bear?
If you can't do this with maxed tier 2 weapons and maxed out characters (you really, really should be able to if you follow this) then I'm not sure what to tell you. I was farming adamantoise for traps and ingots well before I had those (check my other 2 ffxiii vids) and had only upgraded Fang's to a tier 3 when I started farming these, and that isn't even needed. The bulk of damage comes from the buffs/debuffs set up and attacking during the daze spam.
hey ppl if u have problem with shao LongGui, try watching u tube videos about LongGui (ugraded version of the shao long gui) u even faint. it casts ultima spell right off the bat. dealing 40k + damage to all, if u duno what yo do u dont even reach the 1st 2 secs of battle
I start with 3 syn, switch to 3 sen to waste the switch animation. From here you could daze him first and switch to 3 syn or add more nerfs to xiao and then buff your party and make sure to inflict daze when buffing.
@ProjectSoldier Once you're able the adamantoise are easily the best place to farm for both CP and gil, two of my other videos deal with how to do that. Before that there are a few places that aren't too bad for some grinding to get you some easy levels, the two behemoth type monsters you can see at the very beginning of this video at the bottom of the hill being a great one. There are other videos around youtube showing how to grind on that battle you could check out.
@Malacite It really shouldn't matter at all, particularly for Snow, since the main thing he's needed for is the daze spam and not any kind of actual damage. I wouldn't use the one that drops his HP just to be safe though.
Thank you so much! This video may be old and the game too, but you helped me a lot. All of the other videos on RUclips are either people speed running (without showing the equipment) or using tier 3 weapons and max level gear.

Anyway, enfire+debuffing destroys this guy.
thanks for the video. it really helped. I was dying way to much before this.
Dude, seriously i cant thank you enough for this awsome strategy!
@Pazuzoo360PSN
you're using the Save the Queen which is his Tier 3.
Thank you so much, I didn't notice the enfire.
Now I can kill it in one stagger
@mezrik100
Yeah, I personally changed the setup just a wee bit.
Snow as a medic is adorable
Man, this works like a charm. Thank you very much, right now I'm farming like crazy.
@AkatsukiXxXSephiroth there's one roaming around and there's the cieth stone mission (63)
It was a long time ago and unfortunately, I don't remember my setup anymore :(
@quad123 when you upgrade the tetradic crown/tiara, to max then dismantle them, you get Hermes sandles and sprint shoes respectively.
this video was a tremendous help. thanks
Wow, that was a very clever strategy.
The third method would be repeating mission 63, but that seems rather inefficient to me.
damn... so many strategies... finaly this worked for me, thanks
OMG THANK YOU THIS IS THE BEST STRATEGY FOR ME!!
Thanks a ton for this. Got the 4 Dark Matters I needed quickly. :)
@Pazuzoo360PSN
How can you say that though when the success rate of Daze is directly tied to his magic stat? Plus he had him go in there as a ravager to help stagger the turtle. I'm not so sure dropping his HP to 18k is all that bad - Lightning tops out at 20k and she didn't go red in the video.
And I don't know what you're talking about, because I never said I was or wasn't using a particular one. It's in the video description. Yes I was using a fully upgraded weapon in the video, at the time I was actually hunting for my dark matter though I wasn't. I was still using tier 2 weapons on Light and Snow when I was getting my dark matter.
Welp! Looks like it’s my turn now!
@EmmyIiciouS Sab,sab, sab switching and Liquid Fluid spamming after? They can be bought in the Eden Pharma for 100 gil I think :)
I do it like this:
FANG/LIGHT/VANILLE
SEN/SEN/SEN
SAB/SYN/SAB
SYN/SYN/MED
RAV/RAV/RAV
COM/COM/MED
COM/COM/COM
Important to have slow on him asap.
What I noticed today is that if you have Veil as a buff he does Ultima and if you do not have Veil he will do Bay, so make sure you have Veil, as Ultima does not do that much damage when SEN.
Pretty easy actually, have beaten them for over a 100 times now
I actually never tried Daze, will do now.
Paz, I`m curious to hear what you thought about the story and the overall game... what did you think ?
@DeadBeats1990 The ones used here were from Power Circle and Gladius, though it really doesn't matter what you use. I actually used axis blade a lot more for Lightning in most fights.
@proadam9 What weapon you use for Snow here really doesn't matter since all he's doing is casting daze over and over and not doing any direct damage. The one in the video is his 3rd tier upgraded from Power Circle, really only used it to give him the 6th atb segment, you could easily leave him with a tier 2 weapon.
haha! man! this video just saved a lot of time and frustrations! i hated thoses shaolong guis bastards with my life! xD never used Snow before on the whole game so i didnt figure out how to defeat em easily... now i see why its important to know every character.. man thanx! im clos to get my platinum now! at last!
thank you very much for your vid ^^
it helped me a lot.
I finally got my plat.
I followed the same strategy and got Dark Matter on my second try. ^^
@nytro1441 You're very much welcome, and thanks for the kind words!
This is the great man!
The bulk of damage comes from the buffs/debuffs set up and attacking during the daze spam.
hey ppl if u have problem with shao LongGui, try watching u tube videos about LongGui (ugraded version of the shao long gui)
u even faint.
it casts ultima spell right off the bat. dealing 40k + damage to all, if u duno what yo do u dont even reach the 1st 2 secs of battle
I start with 3 syn, switch to 3 sen to waste the switch animation. From here you could daze him first and switch to 3 syn or add more nerfs to xiao and then buff your party and make sure to inflict daze when buffing.
Thanks for uploading the vid :) it helped a lot !
I'll have to try this. I'm trying to farm for items to sell so I can get my final achievement. Treasure Hunter. x_x Good work!
@Malacite It really shouldn't matter at all, particularly for Snow, since the main thing he's needed for is the daze spam and not any kind of actual damage. I wouldn't use the one that drops his HP just to be safe though.
