In the open field we have a minimum of 4ft of snow, some places 5+ feet. IN THE OPEN FIELDS! Where a drift has created or snow from tree limbs falling and adding to it, some places have over 6-8ft of snow. The main hwy has been closed for nearly 24 hours now. We’re struggling here!!!! lol😅

Wrong. This is lake effect snow not a storm system. Cold dry air blowing across warm water turns into snow and lots of it. You can predict roughly by the winds that there is a chance of it but by no mean a week out. This snow comes in bands. Some areas get hit much harder than other areas.
Because they have the attitude of all the people in these comments who are saying things like "oh wow. Snow in Canada. In winter" and "Snow i late November? What a shocker" and "Blah blah blah happens every year" and "we call that Wednesday". Precisely the people the highway patrol has to rescue out of a snowbank on the side of a highway in a huge snowstorm. Blasé and think they know it all.
Wow, I’m shocked. I never thought Anything would happen like this. I always thought Ontario would be snow free, almost like spring then summer then spring. I never thought winter would be a thing anymore according to outfits like the IPCC, and outfits like the Weather Network.
We need to start building highways differently in Ontario. Shoulders need to be wider. The green space to the bordering tree line needs to be increased. And we need to build rest areas like they do in the States so truckers and motorists have places to escape during events like this. Why can’t we figure this out in Ontario? Provinces like Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba must see this and think we are pathetic?
I'm in Saskatchewan, and I don't think you're pathetic. If you had two inches of snow and were immobilized it would be pathetic. We had 30 cm last week and all our schools were closed because it was so impossible to get around. Three times that much and we'd be immobilized for a week.
I agree. We only have the OnRoute along the 401 and even then it's spread out for a 100 miles before the next one. I reckon it's got something to do with our population base compared with the US's is why we have very few rest areas.

Ski Resorts will be doing the happy dance. Snow fall like this is not unusal. Used to live in Gravenhurst. One Sat. morning we got up and the only thing you could see of the car in the driveway was the roof. It looked a buried marshmellow.

So you don't know what happened. A semi truck jackknifed on a tight corner in between a rock cut, then another one did the same thing because it hit the first and blocked the lanes heading both ways. Then the traffic both way got backed up for kilometers creating a traffic jam. The snow kept falling and piled up around the stuck cars and all of a sudden everyone was screwed. And since the plows couldn't get through the roads couldn't get plowed, and so that caused more problems... the heavy duty toe trucks sent to get the semi's out got stuck on the unplowed roads, the storm knocked out power and the hydro trucks sent to fix the lines got stuck in the 30 mile traffic jam... it was an escalating problem its not just "Its just some snow guys come on..." kind of situation.
First year owners learn quickly to adjust range expectations accordingly 🚗🔌 most EVs have zero-pollution pre-heating and other features to help make the best of our winters.
Everyone with EVs in Gravenhurst is cooked. They are made with no ability to go over any sort of snow at all, 1 foot and they will crash. And their battery lasts 1 hour in the cold.
