It's the litemotif of old aperture, you can hear it when you explore the old labs in portal 2, that's why it hits so hard. And PS, i just remembered that Cave Johnson talked about fighting an army of mantises in P2? So that's maybe that's related to why the mantises have advanced so fast in DeskJob
Closer to the reference in Portal 2 on Cave's recordings on injecting Mantis DNA to test subjects, but I guess the universe does revolve around the mantis.
