Going to try this new flat mode next time I'm in a state park forest rv camping. There is times that trees are only located north, but sky above is fully cleared. Put it on a flag pole flat would also not catch as much wind. I wish they offered this feature sooner.

The problem is still the length of the pole makes it difficult to mount close to the roof unless you cut the pole. So now you're already doing surgery on the V2. V3's are on sale now until Oct 5th for $299 so it might be time to upgrade.

Unfoetunately flat mode is only available on 'mobile plans'not residential.

We are in the country with lots of tall pine trees in the area. I have the standard dish, no mobile/roaming plan but I do live where there are some tall pine trees in the northerly direction. Can I just put my standard dish in a flat position to avoid obstruction from the trees or install the dish so the trees are not obstructing the view?

they should have had this feature EONS ago, ive seen so many people manipulating their dish's because it simply did not have this feature

Wonder how people put this dish with the new option on their RV roofs.

I noticed I had the feature last Friday and now it's no longer showing. I have an actuated dish on mobile regional plan but it's currently paused. So my assumption is the .1 and .2 versions of the app changed it so you have to also have an active subscription to see this option now.

I'm paused too (regional) and it's not an option in my app. Latest update was May 15. I'm thinking it's because I'm paused.

@@oursailingvoyage it is because of paused status. I have seen the tilt option appear when paused though too. I have now resumed mobile regional service and the option is there again. Soon will move to Residential plan and it will be gone again. Kind of wish that ability was there for heavily forested areas to try but oh well.

I don’t have the option… maybe because I am not using starlink router?

Maybe, although it shouldn’t matter since it’s a dish option which you should still have access to. And you’re on the Roam plan with a motorized dish?

Two days ago I setup a 3rd party router mesh system. I have the actuated dish and currently on mobile regional plan and I still have the tilt option on app version 2024.15.1
This option may not show when paused (I've had it available and then it was gone and then seem to reappear) but it isn't available if your plan is Residential.

And interestingly there is no change in the internet speed.

Performance generally won't be affected by the angle of the dish, as long as the field of view can capture the satellites flying over, and there are no obstructions.

@@StarlinkHardware my thoughts are how can't performance be affected by angle of the dish? Why would SL have dishes pointed at a certain optimum angle if it's not better? I thought this was more to assist in heavily wooded areas as well as those using mods on motors etc to keep dish flat for in motion use. Better to point straight up than at obstructions in case of wooded areas or tilted in the wrong direction when using dish while in motion.
