Test Drive Unlimited 2 was ambitious, but it's a shame that Eden Games and Atari were on the brink of bankruptcy, otherwise it would have been a lot better.
same here, having some beer and weed while playing flighsim 2020 and putting this on afterwards to chill out and FRIM while driving around....shame I never could turn the traffic off like TDU...
I think developers pretty much nailed Ibiza because most of them had actually been to Ibiza over the years, so when it feels wrong, it would feel wrong to them. They probably only saw what Oahu looks like from maps and pictures. To unlock all car upgrades, you just need to drive on all roads (asphalt and dirt, anything marked on the map counts), snap some pictures for the photographer, do some challenges. So if you did somehow find the races too difficult, you could just grind exploration to lower the difficulty, you don't need to complete the races for that at all. "Progression is terrible"? Not really, no. What form or aspect of progression is "terrible"? You get better at driving, you get an increase in challenge level, you get stuff. You get to buy a new car or some real estate every few hours of play on average, while doing the challenges and races etc. I don't find it particularly satisfying when a game just showers you with cars several times an hour, because you don't get to make a connection to the cars that way, it doesn't feel like you actually own them if that makes sense, they're then kinda just there, but the opposite extreme is even worse, like The Crew (1) where you pick one car at the start, and then for the next 20 hours, you just get uglier and weirder versions of it. I don't want to say that TDU2 nails it, but i'd say it's fairly decent for the open-world racing genre. It's a major pity that it won't let you adjust your seat in the cockpit view, unlike the predecessor. Why cockpit view? Because i can feel traction and g-force that way, other views have so little feedback. All games are a few steps away from actually nailing the view, having the mirrors be visible and work properly, maybe be adjustable, the steering wheel, well-visible instrument cluster, the windscreen not darkening the image too much, etc, so it's painful to see when features regress there.
Correction: The one mistake I made was to do with the houses. There are a few eight car garages. Also the way that I pronounce Ibiza is the British Pronunciation.
TDU1 was one of the most surprising games I ever played. Firstly because I got it without knowing what was all about (apart from racing). The open world in Hawai, having real gauges and the possibility to buy houses and driving to car dealerships, that was really amazing and I remember I couldn't wait to get home to play it. Please KT Racing make TDU great again!
Just, join the PC master race. Problem solved. Almost! The game is abandoned on Steam. You can still download it if you own the license but there is no support. :)
I’m not sure they even need an entirely new game. TDU2 remade with a larger car list, up to date graphics, much improved sounds and voice acting would be a fantastic game right now
I wouldn't call it up to date graphics, but it definitely stands its ground. I recall that when this game just came out, I was astonished with the details of the cars and it still is one of the major points I like about this game.
Doing the stickers was fun back in 2011-‘13 spent hours on paint jobs. To me it was fun the only bad part was the repetitive music in the background. 🌸✨
I think you missed talking about the handling model. It is the worst and a nail in the coffin of this otherwise, really appealing game. The steering is delayed by half a second, it doesn't support clutch and is generally a big downgrade from the first game.
@@Rudenbehr I mean it isn't hard in the sense that I still got used to that handling model under all assists off with the physics, but it feels unnatural and is constantly there to annoy you.
@@andrewwang8204 I recommend installing the unofficial patch. It gives you much more control over your car, fixes many bugs and weird interactions and also adds some cars that were planned or had good models made (eg. Aventador, R34, Supra, Saleens and many more). I just went through the whole game with the unofficial patch and it honestly is a night and day difference (especially for the DLC missions)
They really messed up the upgrade system in TDU2. Not only will it take nearly till end game to get the car to upgrade level 4, but I noticed that the races are actually harder if you do upgrade early so beating the game with stock cars is actually easier. My guess is the upgrades were meant more for online racing and not the single player aspect. TDU World is a god send as they are slowly bringing back all the original online capabilities of the game. Was able to get the Audi R8 Spyder from the Casino. Had to buy it as the slot machines seems to not be working at the moment but still nice to have access to those online only cars. Can't wait till they have clubs up and running again so I can finally get the club cars. Great video!
Later on in the game Frim does get an upgrade, and than you can make a pretty penny. I get that Visually Ibiza is prettier than Oahu, Though when you get in the meat of the game. Oahu offers more technical roads and fun mountain passes, which the starter is lacking. If you still play the game take your time to fully explore both islands. There some hidden gems roads wise. I'm still amazed that the TDU series is still far ahead of its time, yet carried a ton of flaws with it. So in that sense what TDU does so great, makes me really annoyed with TC1/2 and FH series do so badly. TC has the map and FH has the Cars, yet everything else is just not it.
I played through the whole game and I found that you can make a lot more money from the single player challenges instead of the FRIM. The game does start giving you more money from it, but it is quite risky and still takes a while to make a lot of money. Oahu does have a lot of good driving roads, but I wanted a reason to go back to Ibiza seeing as it was the new island that wasn't utilized as much as it should have been. I don't really remember The Crew, so I can't comment on the map, but I agree with you about Forza Horizon as TDU 1 and 2 have character which the Horizon series is lacking a bit.
If you take the FRIM V2 to either the main high way on Ibiza, or the road next to the airport in Hawaï, you can quite easily score 10K in a couple of minutes. I do find this one of the easiest ways to make money once you have ran out of single player challenges.

Nice review, I bought this game back in 2011 and played it for a few years and wow, it really was my favourite game I've ever played. So much fun, I remember playing the "Follow the leader" online events quite much and also visiting the "community race center" or whatever it was called, to play timeraces others have made (I also made some myself)
Thanks. I got the game back in 2011 on the Xbox 360, but didn't want to pay for Xbox Live, so I never did the online stuff. When I bought it for PC a few years ago, the servers had gone offline, so I never got to play it online at all.
If this game wasn't rushed and was polished properly, i feel this could've been a more memorable title for the series. I hope solar crown is a solid title. Also, what is the name of the last song please.
Well I I just brought the first TDU, which it would the first time I play it and I just ordered the the second TDU, the physics may not be all that good but it looks very interesting, can't wait to play em
Ok I see a Subaru Impreza WRX STi.. Need to buy that game. Is the Subaru Impreza 22b in that Game? This is the Subaru for real rich guys. And again great review. I see a new colorshred at the horizon! :D
Thanks. A lot of people have been saying that my channel is like Colourshed Productions. The Subaru Impreza WRX STi is the best car in it's class in Test drive Unlimited 2. The 22b isn't in the game. If it was then there would have been a lot of footage of it. The 22b is my second favourite Subaru after the 1996 Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon GT-B.
One of my favorite games since it came out, had to use the championship glitch to make hundreds of millions to be able to purchase all of the houses and cars
I would've liked to at least seen a remaster of the first Test Drive Unlimited, but alas we can't have everything. I suppose there's too many legal hurdles they'd have to go through to even try and do it. With all that said, I really hope Solar Crown doesn't disappoint when it finally releases, even though we still haven't seen gameplay yet and I have no idea when we can expect an specified release date.
I find this interesting. The Test Drive Unlimited games may not have been the best racing games of the seventh generation, but with how many contemporaries have adopted its systems and built on them, I think it can be said they were the most influential.
I agree that many contemporaries have adopted its systems and built on them, but a lot of the developers that made those games haven't put in features that TDU2 players loved. Yeah, Forza Horizon 4 does have the whole buying houses aspect, but it's nothing like TDU2's, and I've seen a few reviewers criticising that aspect of FH4. Also in the dev build of FH3, the player can use indicators and put the roof up or down, but that feature is missing from the retail build of FH3 and 4 completely.
Big nostalgie game. Yes the KI is a bit bad but the graphic is still cool, the maps are very cool and i really like the feeling and the atmosphare and feeling of the game. Just feeling rich, have cool cars and enjoying the maps. The Music makes it perfect. Only the driving schools are annoying and some tasks there are very very heavy. But still a great game. Still have the game and once a year its TDU2 weekend and i play it. Im so ready for TDU3
I have played both games extensively. I'm not saying that TDU2 is a bad game, however I just can't help myself to like TDU1 waaaaaay more. There are some nice new features introduced in the second game, many also listed in this video, but the first one just felt so much more complete as a package. Also I couldn't stomach the handling in the second game. If there was one single thing that I could bring from TDU2 into TDU1, it would be the smooth road meshes.
Ur quality is solid but I’d double check ur facts on this game. You can get 8 car houses & Oahu is a more detailed island based on the fact that you do more there. There’s more championships to complete & more houses to buy. Also not to mention more car dealerships too
The one mistake I made was to do with the houses. There are a few eight car garages and I will post a comment correcting that. When I say more detailed in regards to the Ibiza, I was talking about was the way that the island looks as most of the assets weren't carried over from the previous game. I am aware that there's a lot more to do on Oahu, which I why I only bought houses on Ibiza as that gave be a reason to go back there after completing the final championship before going to Oahu.
@@MontegoReviews makes sense. I loved Oahu because of the nostalgia it brought me from TDU1. When I played on Ibiza it was a very beautiful map but I always wished it had more to do like you said. I always saw myself being drawn to Oahu more because of what’s there. But I still tried to balance my houses across both islands
I disagree with the progression being bad. I liked that this game made you earn things and seek to unlock things. It was a grind but not overdone. Also I still cruise on this game, unlocking roads, buying houses & cars, etc... Im most stoked for the next TDU coming out next year though. The TDU franchise is arguably my favorite ever, I 100% recommend the next game
Looking back at this game I feel like the driving physics were not really good. But in all other parts I feel like the game was ahead of its time (Casino, map, houses, dealerships and all that good stuff) but unfortunately the developers didn't have the resources to get the full potential out of the game. I'm really looking forward to TDU SC because I hope the can unlock an even better experience 10 years later, with all the hardware etc that developed over the years
@@zerospacer thank God you said this because I feel like the handling is the best part of racing games and I just ordered and received it in the mail yesterday. I haven’t played it yet. Other people was mentioning about the gameplay physics in other comments as well and has discouraged me a little until I read yours. that’s great that you can adjust in the options some people don’t know about that so they just say that the physics are horrible.

Hope it will released as a complete finished game unlike GT7! no online requirement no microtransactions no pay to win most important with a Sim-Cade driving physic like GTsport, no open world racing game today can offer this option. When you target a real world behavior, so do the real driving physics. Other openworld racer drives to arcadish, the gameplay gets fast boring
I agree that the vinyl editor was a bit fiddly & laborious but "the most pointless part of the game" ? Now that I strongly disagree with & you also misunderstood the pricing system of the stickers. The first time you use an individual sticker you pay for it but from then on every time you use that particular sticker it's free. As someone that spent a lot of time in the TDU2 vinyl editor. I can safely say that in order to create good quality imitations of racing liveries you only need to use about 10-15% of the available stickers. I'm not usually one for self promotion but when it comes to TDU2 vinyl's I have a dog in the fight, so to speak lol. For anyone curious of what can be achieved check my channel or just search on RUclips. I'm pretty competent & I get blown away by what truly artistic people can achieve with such apparently basic tools.
I read somewhere that the reason why lambos are absent is because during that time period. Lambo and ferrari were having some issues..hence you could only have one in your game...I read that..i think it was on a forum..however due to mods..lambos as well as the chiron and mclarens were added in...
It sucks that the game is unbeatable without the online support. Just as well modders have been working around this to keep the PC version alive and running, even if it is a bit of a tedious process to work around. If they can do that to a once disappointing sequel, then I can see them do the same with The Crew, since it used to be hated but is now grown a following over the years.
The cops in both 1 and 2 were horribly unfair and not fun to get chased by. Little kid me didn't dare do anything to piss them off because I never could escape if I did.
I still play this game from time to time. I fully agree that no other game has managed to rival this game in it's free world aspect and as a lifestyle sim. But I fully agree that the story line is absolute BS and the competitions could have been a bit more of a challenge.
@@Lucas17031 I recently played that, I know precisely which one you mean! @@stephans1990 I used the gift car from the rival to try and beat it- I'll try to upgrade and try again then...? Also tbh, time trails as a whole kinda suck XD, or maybe it's because I'm just really bad-
Two aspects that ruined the game for me, especially if you played the first one. The car physics are weird, to arcade, especially compared to tdu1 hardcore mode, and you can't sell cars.
@@TheSultan1470 You didn't understood my answer. How can you say that disabling all the assists, IN 2, you have the hardcore mode like in tdu1, if you never played tdu1 hardcore mode? Get it?
As flawed as this game was it’s still the best open world racing/driving game ever made. in my opinion. The horizon series and the new Need for Speeds don’t even come close.
tdu1 has a great game physic when it comes to acceleration braking and gear shift even the car engine sounds good but I don't understand why they changed all those in the 2nd game
I always wondered why all the used cars had 0.0 miles on the odometer. Yes, there are vehicle odometers in TDU2, y'all may know already, but it's on the bottom right under the gauge in hood, bumper, or third person view. However, it's not on the dash of the car itself nor visible from first person. One more thing: TDU2 has the BEST engine sounds
The only thing I hate on the game is its handling physics. Like its basically Gran Turismo PSP where it usually understeers in certain areas then if u give ur car a full 90° turn it somewhat sliding off track, drifting.
@@TheSultan1470 im talking about the delay in TDU2's handling. It's kinda unnatural especially when you think that race car drivers are very responsive when steering. And since I'm playing both TDU franchises at the same time you'll notice the first TDU installment has a fast and responsive steering. I know, TDU2 has mud terrain and rain which makes the road slippery and I have no problem with it. It's just that you have to calculate your turns and that's a big hassle if you're picking up people for a timed ride.
Playing this game was something special, to me it was like an open world gran turismo (Car details, real performance stats, licenses) I really enjoyed it. And why is no one talking about how awful forza models look, probably because they're imported from previous games, they should do the same thing Gran Turismo did, start from scratch.
I think now that RUclipsrs are starting to call out Turn 10 studios and Playground Games for using models going all the way back to Forza Motorsport 2, they might start redoing them for the Series X games. Hopefully that is what they are doing with their extra year in the release cycle.
I only wished that this game had a better or at least a similar driving feeling to TDU1, because for me it feels too weird. I feel bad about it because I loved every other aspect of the game.
Well there a three pronunciations. I was using the British one, but if i've missed out the a on the end then it's because I accidently cut it from the audio.

For the type of game that it is, it was the best game when it came out, but a lot of developers have made open world racing games since 2011 which I think are a lot better.
I wish this game was easier to access besides going and finding an old Xbox and playing it that way, or going to my abandonware and trying to muscle it into working on a modern PC

"I'll never know where she was going!" Rated T
You need to finish this series with Test Drive Ferrari Legends, it is made by Slighty Mad Studio.
And it use Shift 2 as base!
Looking back at this game I feel like the driving physics were not really good. But in all other parts I feel like the game was ahead of its time (Casino, map, houses, dealerships and all that good stuff) but unfortunately the developers didn't have the resources to get the full potential out of the game.
I'm really looking forward to TDU SC because I hope the can unlock an even better experience 10 years later, with all the hardware etc that developed over the years
You can adjust the handling in the options, just have to find that sweet spot that you prefer.
@@angelserrano9049 When I have access to my XBOX, I will look up the settings I use and let you know what they are, though my settings may not be what you prefer.
I think they give you more setting controls than the original TDU. It's worth it. There are so many roads and so much area. You can go actually go into the mountains.
I don't race much anymore, just drive around listening to synthwave when I'm in the mood. :)

im just download it, what dou think montego should this game stay at my HDD? is it only me play with gamepad and hard to steer the car like drift around the corner..car so glued to the road .. or any option to change this?
I think you should keep the game on your HDD. There isn't really any other game like it. I don't think there are any options to change the handling.
There is a mod called CTR physics which improves the physics....idk about drifting tho
Hope it will released as a complete finished game unlike GT7!
no online requirement
no microtransactions
no pay to win
most important with a Sim-Cade driving physic like GTsport,
no open world racing game today can offer this option.
When you target a real world behavior, so do the real driving physics.
Other openworld racer drives to arcadish, the gameplay gets fast boring
Just bought it. Didn’t realize it existed.
Ibiza is beautiful
Great game, never had the tdu1 vibe tho which was a shame, and still the biggest open map game
I remember you could go off road and sit under a tree or something and the police wouldn't go off road so they'd give up lol
So it’s a great open world cruising sim but not a great racing game?
Is Montego GL okay? He hasn't uploaded in two weeks now
Review is coming soon. Hopefully within the next few days depending on how quickly I edit it.
@@MontegoReviews It's okay man, just get well first. *hug*
I read somewhere that the reason why lambos are absent is because during that time period. Lambo and ferrari were having some issues..hence you could only have one in your game...I read that..i think it was on a forum..however due to mods..lambos as well as the chiron and mclarens were added in...
Great vid, but dont you mind telling how to get the game for PC?
I think you have to get in on disc now. It seems to have been removed from steam.
There is a cool new multiplayer mod called project paradise 2 if you are interested in trying it out.
I adore the fact that you use Gran Turismo 4 OST 🖤
I hate licenses test in this game ,other than that game is great for me with mods this game comes to life
Yeah, the tests do get quite tedious in the later parts of the game.
The cops in both 1 and 2 were horribly unfair and not fun to get chased by. Little kid me didn't dare do anything to piss them off because I never could escape if I did.
FYI people there is a new test drive unlimited solar crown game coming out.
I still play this game from time to time. I fully agree that no other game has managed to rival this game in it's free world aspect and as a lifestyle sim. But I fully agree that the story line is absolute BS and the competitions could have been a bit more of a challenge.
Guess im just bad XD
Ibiza cup off Road time trail is being a pain XD
@@Lucas17031 I recently played that, I know precisely which one you mean! Think I even upgraded my Volkswagen just for that one (however, I am sure I have finished that same one in a Hummer H3 many years ago). But overal, if you have the fastest car available, you will finish most time trails with easily 3-5 seconds to spare.
@@stephans1990 I used the gift car from the rival to try and beat it- I'll try to upgrade and try again then...?
Also tbh, time trails as a whole kinda suck XD, or maybe it's because I'm just really bad-
mmmm Tess
I've ordered this on ps3 👀
I got problems with the A1 licence, the last "race" is literally impossibile
I thought the licences were quite easy to get apart from one of the first tests in the A1 license
I try it again and again but i fail all the time
plz remastered on Nintendo Switch!
Two aspects that ruined the game for me, especially if you played the first one. The car physics are weird, to arcade, especially compared to tdu1 hardcore mode, and you can't sell cars.
Some people are saying that the car physics can be changed to your liking in the options menu
@@TheSultan1470 you're right! You can sell cars but, the physics are bad compared to tdu1 and you don't have the hardcore mode
@@TheSultan1470 Amazing! Your comment says it all, "never used hardcore mode but if you disable all the assists you have the hardcore mode"...🤔🤔
@@TheSultan1470 You didn't understood my answer. How can you say that disabling all the assists, IN 2, you have the hardcore mode like in tdu1, if you never played tdu1 hardcore mode? Get it?
I really wish I could play this (and the first game) via backwards compatibility.
I'm sorry but did you just say the police was an improvement in TDU 2?? I must've heard wrong...
As flawed as this game was it’s still the best open world racing/driving game ever made. in my opinion. The horizon series and the new Need for Speeds don’t even come close.
His website is full of add 😑😒..
Be careful!
On ps3 there's a way to get billions of dollars and all the levels easily added to your account. Look it up there's a tutorial on youtube
tdu1 has a great game physic when it comes to acceleration braking and gear shift even the car engine sounds good but I don't understand why they changed all those in the 2nd game
@@TheSultan1470 it would be cool to see al previous miles honestly but it's not a big deal
@@TheSultan1470 that part is elite

The fact that you have only 900 subs should be a crime
I wish they would do a TDU 3 game.
ruclips.net/video/TU3sZU5qneA/видео.html&ab_channel=IGN
Playing this game was something special, to me it was like an open world gran turismo (Car details, real performance stats, licenses)
I really enjoyed it.
@@TheSultan1470 i drive fair well in that game, I think you are mistaken my point.
I hope all these TDU reviews the algorithm is pushing is confirming my hopes that Solar Crown will at least be officially announced...
I modded the game the second i got it with my usb 999,999,999 right at the start i miss playing that game on my 360😢
I used the Cup glitch to get a little over $120M.
I'm not playing this game. The first is good enough.
I Have this game but is crashes, can someone help me
In both games I did only a few of the actual races. Instead I spent many hours just cruising.
What's eye beefs?

@@MontegoReviews why? You said something about Eye beefs. I'm guessing you were attempting to say Ibiza.
Well there a three pronunciations. I was using the British one, but if i've missed out the a on the end then it's because I accidently cut it from the audio.

Testdrive Unlimited 1 is the Game a loved so much a still play it offline . It was the only real Massiv Online Open Racer you not haved to Cread Lobbys or such Just Drive en Counter other Drivers Oline so Cool in a Huge ISLAND
So sad this game was unfinished
And the map glitch was so annoying
I never paid test drive unlimited games but it's a decent game not the best
For the type of game that it is, it was the best game when it came out, but a lot of developers have made open world racing games since 2011 which I think are a lot better.

Nice-looking game nice car selection but cringy AF story and terrible car handling
worst racing game i ever played.
I wish this game was easier to access besides going and finding an old Xbox and playing it that way, or going to my abandonware and trying to muscle it into working on a modern PC
