Thanks for watching! I've been filming the last few shoots in this manner so hopefully will get to upload them on here too. If you like this sort of video, is there any part specifically you would like me to go into more detail with?
First! Man congrats on the outdoor shoot part. You absolutely killed it with the low wide-angle, definitely learned something. Always good to see you killing it.
This is great man. Especially love the outdoor strobe shot. And I've been bringing water and snacks to my shoots lately as well, also wet wipes, it's nice to have those to clean something or just some sort of dust off someone.
The shots look great dude! I’m also a huge fan of Alpha Wolf and you really captured the essence of the band. I’m about to do my first band shoot in a couple weeks and this video is perfect. Thanks and keep up the great work man!
What can I say...your a legend peej. Awesomeness as usual. I'm gonna try to work some low angles in my portrait and street photography. Plus I meant to ask that I wanna donate to the cause 😉
Hey dude Thank you for your vids there really helping me feel more comfortable shooting bands. I have a question and this may sounds mad dumb but how did you get the background grey in studio shots when it was bright white. Was that due to lighting or just done in post??
Hi michael, thanks for the nice comment :) you just have to "feather" your modifiers away from the background so light doesn't hit it. softboxes and beauty dishes are your friends here, bonus points for using grids.
Hi, nice work and great content you have there. Would you always recommend having the key light from above rather than in a rembrand style? I had the problem that the persons further away from the key light obviously aren't as lit as those standing closer. This video helped me so I'll try to light more from above 👌🏼
great shoot ! I definitely wanna see more stuff like this. I love outdoor promo shoots and I have pretty much all the gear I need for that (maybe a double bracket to add a second flash). Although it seems you had enough power with just 1 here. ^^ Now I need bands willing to trust me without seeing any work Haha.
PJ Pantelis you're welcome ! yeah I've picked up live music photography in February after a 7 years break... So I've been making contacts with bands. I've only done a shooting for a drummer for Serial Drummer... on the HELLFEST site ! how cool is that already ? I will start asking bands after I recover from my upcoming surgery then I will see how things go from there. But I reckon I should start doing single portraits... Directing a single model is already hard so a whole group... I'll keep watching your vids in the meantime. :-)
i have a note stuck to my computer screen that says "get uncomfortable" because i want to remind myself that if I only do things that are easy then I won't grow. I say jump on in, give it a try. if you're offering a free shoot to a band the pressure is minimal and you literally have nothing to lose :) congrats on the hellfest gig!!
PJ Pantelis Yeah I know what you mean. I definitely need to get out of my comfort zone. It wasn't a gig. Just a drummer from a band who ask me for a photoshoot coz he's endorsed (right word ?) by Serial Drummer and they wanted shots of him with their clothing. So we went to the site of the HELLFEST where a good part of the decoration stays all year long and it's open to public. I was very nervous and didn't know how to pose him. But it worked out in the end and one of the shot was featured on the serial drummer Fb page ^^ Quite proud Haha. The funny part is that we had chosen another site at first went there with all the set up... and I turned my camera on just to realise the battery was at home on the charger... I was so embarrassed... but he still trusted me and we went for a drink that day and came up with the idea to go to the HELLFEST site which is 30min away. So in the end it was a good thing I forgot the battery... but I hope it won't ever happen again Haha.
Love the video, and the shots, but I also would like to say that you pretty much always want everyone looking at the camera when taking band photos. Have one person actively look aways is separating the band from the listeners. Just a tip great video 👍
Thanks mate! we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one. Over the last couple of years I find most bands now don’t want to be looking straight down the barrel.

haha the wet wipes come in handy to clean your shoes for the studio floor. in this case we just used the booties :)

Great job man!
How do you achieve the dark matte edit look?
What settings did you use to get your lighting to over power your all white background to make it dark?
Roughly, how long did this shoot take?

Yoooo i didn't know Pedro Pascal was in a band
I googled the bands name, and this appeared: www.hysteriamag.com/alpha-wolf-reveal-debut-album-mono/ Your image was used in the article
that's awesome i haven't seen that yet
You make it look so easy! I gotta get out there and practice my off camera lighting.
Darth Volvo once you do it a couple of times it's definitely not hard ☺️ I think it's really handy to learn because a lot of local guys don't do it
