Offthbadan who said you needed to own a house? That's just capitalism and humans creating a "need" that really isn't necessary. People used to build their own homes back in the day, or you can rent a small apartment, no one 'needs' a large apartment or a house. Insurance is different because the prices are generally the same and it is required by law which makes no sense if our only options are from businesses
I have lived in Vermont in a one-room cabin years ago it was a tiny place you don't need much you don't need things but you do have the mountain range in the beauty of the sunset and the sunrise and in the valley you're above the clouds and the Sun is always Shining dot-dot-dot the winters were horrific but the wood stove kept you warm... It was cozy and you had neighbors not too far maybe a mile apart but we all looked out for each other... Those are the days I won't forget those are my younger days you wish they could still last thank you for sharing your experience... My best to you and that God bless
I'm totally down with this guy's lifestyle choices and I've been living life with the same logic that houses, jobs, cars, and what you eat etc etc and I am a happy guy with very little stuff to worry about.i used to bow down to the norm and was always unhappy because people had better and more than I did but after suffering from a nervous breakdown because I was pushing myself too hard ,I adopted a new mindset towards my life and I am happier than most with my simple , uncomplicated life.i don't have much but I don't need much.much is misery.
Greg, I'm thinking since he's 50 maybe his kids are adults now or 30 with kids of their own....not to diminish the child support thing...cause that shit is important
J Simo homeless? Whats your plan? I will give one advice: be homeless is WARM environment. So, go south. Homeless in the cold north is Hell. Temperature makes a HUGE differdnce to homeless experience.
Grey Line And once you unplug from the tv programming which they use to keep you buying "More Stuff" then you see the mess you've been trapped in. Watch more tv, buy more stuff, stay trapped in a job that owns you day by day to pay for it. If that's not a dog chasing it's tail insanity life then I don't know what is. Drug dealers have been doing this for years, giving the poison out for free to get you hooked, as much as you want, then BAM, it's not free anymore, but you gotta have it. Guess what you're gonna be time consumed to do? Yup, he gotcha. This trick is pulled every day in consumerism all around you.
My mother HAD to leave her home due to health reasons. She went to live with her daughter, but had to get rid of a house full of possessions. She left the house with 6 packing crates of possessions, and now she has settled in, she is glad she got rid of everything. I am considering doing the same (but staying in my house).
cleaned out my moms bedroomcloset, while she stayed with my sister.Took 7 hours to bag up, separate, and throw out junk. ( Including 2 mice carcasses..One of them just a skeleton. WHEW!! Now she can hang up all the clothes, I got at Goodwill. And knows where it all is. She forgot the clothes in the closet, because she couldn't get in the closet. HOARDER! She is so glad, to have a walk in closet, after 14 years of crammin empty boxes, and everything else, into the closet. Now she can relax, and be treated like the sweet 79 year old mom, she is.
I think maggie means...like....the old saying "it's easier for a rich man to enter heaven that to pass a camel through the eye of a needle" for me, I see gluttony and materialism in other people and rarely does it bring the happiness it promises in commercials. I saw a very well dressed for the tropics angry lady throw a tantrum in kauai because her chocolate croissant wasn't HEATED!!! The girl at the counter said "hon, did you ask for it to be heated?" The angry lady shouted "No!!! But it was heated yesterday!!!" jewels dripping off her neck, wrists, fingers and ears. The girl at the counter said, sweetly, "no problem hon, you just have to ask for it to be heated and we're happy to heat it for you..some people just like them room temperature." To which the angry rich lady just huffed and puffed and complained to her over testosteronated 70 year old way too muscular husband who looked angry and tight jawed as well....as a rainbow intersected a waterfall in the 5320 foot tall green hills directly behind them
I've been attempting to do something similar with my life. Letting go of the comforts I had become so accustomed to allowed me to appreciate my life in the moment, and appreciate the simple things, like just being alive. When I lived a life of excess, I had severe depression, because I was always looking for the next best thing (the "high" from buying and consuming things that he mentioned), and nothing was ever good enough. Things aren't absolutely perfect right now, but I'm ok with that for the first time in my life, and my quality of life is about a hundred times better than what it was. My depression and anxiety are gone, and I'm actually working toward what I truly want to do. I realized that there is a lot of truth to the saying "Less is more"..
You don't necessarily have to give up to much comfort if you plan right, as I have gone off grid 5 years ago and the best advise I can give is location, location, location, take your time in finding the best that will provide, food (garden, fishing, hunting), access to good water (ideally a downhill stream, can used to generate electricity). I now enjoy the best time of my life , just a few hours of work a day to maintain my little piece of paradise, then I get to enjoy scenery and wildlife in peaceful tranquility.
Read the early retirement blogs. Lots of folks learning to live very comfortably on poverty income simply b/c they eliminate the expensive parts of their lives. Gives them freedom, independence and time. We're about ten years from retiring (early). No mortgage, no debt aside from a car (we buy one every 20 years). Plenty of money on a normal income if a person quits spending wildly for convenience. We're not "off the grid". We're living in a normal neighborhood in "flyover country" i.e. not the big city. We buy food from the farmer's market, want to garden more, fix our own stuff, avoid fads, etc. Cost of living is quite reasonable here. Plenty to do and we can visit the big city anytime we want to - which isn't often. Lots of nice people here. Plenty of friendly social activities to participate in and we also have our own hobbies.
I agree with some of this my mom and dad never wanted a house mortgage or a car payment so they never owned anything or drove a nice car so today at the age of 70 own nothing don't let the things u buy own you but instead own it ....god bless all
How do they live? Where do they get the money to pay rent? No car? Do they take public transportation and if so, where do they get the money for that and food! IF they worked during their lives, they probably now get social security OR have saved money along the way, but they HAD to work at some point unless they inherited wealth, and even that costs! It's pretty difficult to live today with no money at all!
N00z The greed for more is owning us all. While we can survive on primary needs, we'll keep on climbing in material desires. It's an endless road fullfilled with unneeded stress.
it many ways sometimes i do feel that the things i own become more of a burden then they often bring me happiness. wasnt supposed to be a upsetting statement never the less people get upset easy, im guessing this will be much of the same. anyways carry on with ur happiness or lack there off?
Indeed. And it's not all that expensive. You need literally a couple of guides for hunting and you're it. Building a house deep in the woods isn't a difficult task. Hunting game however can be tricky.
I do this to. Man only needs food, shelter, and work that involves those 2, and love of God and others. If others do what yo do, no one would be homeless and hungry. Others things are distractions that strays us from living a fulfilling life.
that's not extreme poverty. have you seen families eating from thrash, their beds made with cardboard boxes with no roofs over their heads, now that's extreme
I totally get this guy, its like what is everybody saving an getting ready for? Death! i feel your life is happening now this moment so why not do what you want to do. As long as your not harming anyone else
Saw this three days ago: Average person works from 18 to 22 or 24, depending on schooling, until retiring at 65 or 67. The average US life span is 78. 11 to 13 years! Now, how about that 30 year mortgage and whatever interest rate they tricked you with once you get into that $850,000, 2 bedroom house, in Burbank at age 35. Sweet bargain!
Most people will just skip passed this video thinking they would Never do this. This guy is extreme. But we, Americans, need to find an in between from our wasteful lifestyle to this simplistic way. It's all about balance.
BRICKCITY9MM Um, my brother is black. Works a full time job to support her, and has been inher life since day one. Don't go labeling every black person, cause you don't know a thing about all of us
I've been living this way since 2001. I suffered my second mini stroke and decided to live in a small RV, here in Arizona. that died in 2012. now I own 1 acre of land, have 1 acre of land for sale and live in a small cabin near the Grand canyon totally of the grid. solar, propane fridge, propane instant hot water heater, wood burning stove for winter heat.
@Paul Davenport I finally figured out to reply back. sorry it took so long to figure this out. the land sold over a month ago. hope you recovered from your stroke. take care.
Drunk By U. I totally agree. Simplicity and freedom with a like minded person you care for are better then drowning in the cares and worries of this life. Finding someone who is willing to share such an adventure is the trick.
khaan vaiphei First tell me about yourself. I think we need to learn about each other first. I don't like living in a cold place. And yourself? Are you divorced. Are you a male or female? Just being real. Hope you do the same!
I remember when I was young my Mom would hang clothes on the porch in the winter time....thus freezing then ...and when she would bring back in the house ...when they thawed they were dry.....Bless you, for your selfless lifestyle ...you are a good witness to young people of today
Way to go, sir! I am so impressed by your choices on how to live your life. I currently live in a converted cargo trailer, but a lot of your reasons are the same as mine. You've just gone farther down this path. I applaud your commitment.
Charles Terrizzi ...Wrong, he is not living for materialism. Materialism is when the whole family buys matching shirts for a photo op, your "god" is money. He is probably closer to the spiritual "god" more than anyone else in this comment section.
+Lovely Seaflower yeah well if this is the case then he should have suffered through those kidney stones of his...this crazy hermit lifestyle stuff is a bit of a joke really...because as soon as the shit hits the fan...he runs for help back to civilization, re: modern hospitals and university educated doctors...ppl like this guy are dropouts of society..sounds like his breakup disturbed his way of thinking and managing his life and he didnt get the help he needed to recover..but for ppl on here to say his lifestyle is the way to go...i bet they wouldn't want it.
Dee Johnson: Drink Two bottles of warm beer that will remove kidney stones. You better be in the emergency room if the stones are large! Because they WILL Be coming out after drinking two bottles of warm beer!
Ive lived in a utility van for two years, insurance and registration adds to 900$ a year that's my rent. Phone bill, gas, propane, dog food, my only costs. My footprint is light as it can in America without living outside
I admire this guy for taking the leap and living off grid in a very simple and sustainable way. The society we live in today promotes waste, inefficiencies and consumerism 'stuff' we don't need or want, so that big corporations etc can make more money. We all should learn to eat less, spend less, save more and consume in sustainable ways, if not, then the current system will get a lot worse for the 99%. While the 1% live like kings. . .
I say just be wise about your money don't spend too much don't save too much because you're just saving for the banks to make more from you. Your money is not 100% secure in the bank if the bank can claim bankruptcy.
In the great words of Master Yoda,..."Attachment leads to jealousy, the shadow of greed that is.Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose" I would give anything to be able to live as this man chooses to
Alas my friend, without being defeatist,my body is far too messed up to be able to make a life for myself that way, you'd have to be strong and fit to live in that manner and i am no longer either, otherwise i would in a heartbeat
I understand. I broke my back in six places in 03. I've had no surgery , and have severe pain on a regular bases. But still live on our little sailboat. It's tough but so am I. No worries you'll find the place you need to be if you already haven't. ✌️✌️✌️
Bless ya for that Diamond, and hats off to you for not letting your injuries get in the way of your dreams.mine is also spine issues, hopefully my next op will help, only time will tell. Living on a boat sounds great.I've always liked the thought of the canal boat life, but what i've always really wanted to do is start a small self sufficient community in the forest somewhere, maybe one day hey :) peace brother
The_Dizzy_Piper + The Grass Is Always Greener.....Give up having to go to work by giving up a lot of good, helpful implements. But the dropping out has been almost outlawed by the conquering beast power mentioned in the Bible.
What the life of rich and famous don't show is the maintenance, upkeep cost which would sky rocket proportionate to the purchase cost. Thats why so many a-list stars go bankrupt. They don't know how to budget and plan. Purchasing is not the end but the beginning of money bleed. Living simply makes your life so much easier.
That's not poverty. That's minimalist existence. He has everything he needs and is cool with it.Think of the greedy people on t.v. with a hundred pair of shoes.Who would be more devastated in a disaster.Exactly.Quit calling it poverty.People who live in poverty don't choose that life.Know the difference if you're going to make videos or be a journalist.😔
As the scriptures say," Live as pilgrims,". All I know this next economic downturn is gonna' be bad. So bad it can't even recover from. A boom always proceeds a bust.
I knew a man named Randy who got sick of the whole rat race of money. So he quit his job and went out into the woods to live there, with just a tarp and a few other items, less than this guy. He would sometimes do small jobs for money just to buy food, but nothing other than that. I remember he had actually been hit by a train when younger, which took off his right arm completely, yet they managed to reattach it with no loss to motor skills. My dad had met him years before I was born, but once I was born, this guy, 55 at the time, would visit the house often, so he was an uncle to me, more so than most of my uncles. We'd go take trips to the forest and explore with him a lot. When we wanted to reach him, we had to leave a note at a store he went to, or go find him in the forest. We were the only ones that knew where he lived in that forest, and it was a long walk. I miss that guy, since we ended up moving away many years later. Last I heard from him, we had to let him know my dad had died from cancer, so we managed to get him on the phone through that store. That was so sad, he never showed sadness like that before. I wonder if he's alive now, actually. It has been over a decade since we spoke.
Jonathan Strange he leases the property for $100.00 a year and makes $5,000.000 a year so yes he lives in poverty! I wonder if you have any comprehension skills at all.
If he chose his lifestyle then is it still poverty? It's minimalism, not poverty. If we use the official definition of poverty as "the state of being extremely poor" then all the country's children are living in poverty because they have no or very little money of their own. However, that is not the case. By definition, I grew up living in poverty until I finished school. I have always lived in a warm, comfortable house with loving parents who have always been willing to provide for and care for me. Poverty is really just another word for suffering. This man is not suffering and I don't believe he is in poverty. I empathise with him and to be honest, I'm slightly jealous.
James Eberhart That's the beauty of our society. Since he doesn't work, they can't garnish his wages for child support. So, we end up being the ones to support his children with our hard earned taxes, while he gets to do what he wants.
Gigantic Harry Tarantula How do you know when he split? You don't know how long he has been living like that. He could have split when the kids were young and owes thousands in child support. Usually that's the case.
Amount of bills payments going up. I think many more people will find peace ther. Just imagine life without bills. House rent, repayments, insurance, registration, electricity, gas, water, council, phone. Life will b good yea? Everything natural... no air pollution no noise pollution no human pollution.
If evil men didn't run the world, none of that would exist. When you take them out of power, you take their things. We lived simple for almost 5k+ years on this earth and now it's considered," primitive."
I really wish that anybody who creates a video for others to watch, would stop playing music in the background. That realky makes it hard to understand the narrators. Sometimes the music is even louder than the speaker. Grrr
Dorothee Behr VIDEO MAKERS !!!! YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO YOUR CREATION BEFORE UPLOADING TO YOU TUBE !!!! YOU TUBE YOU SHOULD TELL THEM OR TAKE THEM OFF !!! MOST OF THE TIME WE DON'T NEED TO HEAR LOUSY "MUSICK" OFTEN DON'T EVEN MATCH THE STORY AT ALL !!! THAT'S WHY PEOPLE GO TO SCOOLING FOR THAT.!!! WILL NOT LIKE NOR SUBSCRIBE THAT TRASHY VIDEO !!!
Str8 4ward. That noise so lousy scratchy mass.Good musick is fine at the last part of the video. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR VIDEO AND TO THE REVIEWS AND LEARN STUDENT .!!!
I'm buying about an acre of woodland and in the middle of it I'm digging a hole and putting a shipping container in it, then refilling the hole with concrete leaving a ladder hole and air vents, then I'm converting the container into a home & I'm going to live down there! You won't even know it's there if you walked past, I'm going to grow my own veg on the land and try and go completely off grid as I'm sick of living how social norms dictate!
+PaulsVlogs ... Could be. I was going by the statement, "because he doesn't have refrigeration". I myself mostly just eat cereal dry. Have a BLESSED life
Very inspirational. We are chasing the wrong things. I made a lot of money, getting higher education. Hopefully, I can live sustainability and down to earth. I don't care now about my worldly possessions .
I will never forget moving out at a young age and living on just 800 a month. I remember thinking the more i make i will just save more yet i ended up spending more. Then one day i said you know i have the same amount of things now making 72k a year than i did when i made 20k a year lol. So i downsized everything and sold my house. I was lucky and did not take a loss. I built my own house in the country very small with a basement and payed it off in 2 years. I sold my new car and new SUV and got just one used car for work and one beat to hell truck for yard work and trash. I learned you do not have to live on scraps but just small changes can save you a ton of money in the long run.
HOORAY! To me this man is heroic and a disciple. Lives the true meaning of life. He has more courage than I do. As much as I agree with him and cheer him on and admire him, I haven't the courage. I do have wife and kids to think of to provide and protect. HOWEVER, if my life was to turn out like his with regard to marriage dissipating and moving away, I would seriously contemplate the same life. Maybe and probably not to the same extreme, however I would life A LOT less, without, and so so so much simpler, and at the least cost as possible. GOD BLESS YOU SIR!
I understand completely. I must live very simply or I feel empty. Those little things we are being pushed to let go of are far more important to our well being than we realize. Cheers to you.😃
I'd love a little house like that for my Beautiful female Rabbit. She deserves her own front door ! A Fabulous cosy place it would be too. The idea I could stay with her in a little place like that really appeals. A night with Bunny in her own cosy abode could grow. Bunnies and those that love them popping up everywhere. So much nicer than taking her away from the earth, that she looks after and improves the soil structure of everyday;then putting her into a cage to live in a human house.Me and Tina Bunny coming to stay, !!my wild fur baby.Show me more of your terrific ways..,little magical creature, you've taught me such a lot.Protect you from the Owl &the Fox...Far too beautiful to end up as a quick meal. Let them eat Bugs!
Yes. Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix, and more. Then there's that song they get into playing a lot at Starbucks, down to the river to pray, down to the streets to get beat up for women's suffrage, quite a few versions of that. Luciano-Dulles-Delano of the silent H are still misogynist mumeffen, two templars one Horus. At first their heroin went only into black neighborhoods, hence misogynist and racist. Now random carfentanil kill shots in both their Afghan heroin and fake oxy are targetting both muslim killing vets and their children, thanks to templar-saracen misogynist child crusades morons aka al-CIA-duh aka Luciano-Dulles-Delano L3(cupid misogynist trafficker assetization aka Fed to Well Fed their pipe your butt).
I would love to meet a woman with anything close to an idea of simple living and frugality. A hobbit hole not required. I know some exist but I'm almost certain there are none where I live. You could have a net worth of a million bucks but if you take out a flip phone it's game over. They'd prefer a guy deep in debt, with plenty of toys who will spend freely on them. They are all mindless sheep.
+David B No chance in hell. Women operate by the law of nature. The strongest man takes what he wants. Meaning he can provide what she needs for herself and her offsprings. It's a sacred pact xD
David, I know what I am about to write will catch some flack. Come visit the Philippines for a good long stay. YES, there are a large number of scammers here, wanting only the contents of your wallet, bank account, and a new cell phone. BUT, on balance you will also find wonderful girls who put family first and will help you build a great life. I lost my first beatiful bride to cancer 11 years ago. Now, after 5 years in the Phils and married over one year, I never want to go back to the states. My new bride is educated (three degrees), and she has foreign income she earns at home online just as I do. My wife hates the label of a gold digger and asked for a prenup where she promises to support the children she brought to our marriage, and my sweetheart relinquishes any claim to my home as she feels it belongs to my daughter back in the US. She did ask to have first right to purchase the home because she watched the custom work I have done to "our" home and would like to retire in this house. There are wonderful girls out there, you just have to know where to look. You do not need a lot of money to start off and the right girl will help you to succede.
NewHampshire Jack Let me 1st say how happy I am that things worked out so well for you after the tragic loss of your bride to cancer. I'm glad that you met such a nice woman in the "Phils". Unfortunately, at this time in my life, I just can't pick up and go. I'm too close to retirement. I have heard others comment that women in the Philippines can be wonderful. American women need to up their game. Feminism is a joke. I'm all for equal pay for equal work but don't demand equality and then expect guys to carry your ass. Yes Hr1s7i, I realize that it's in their very genes but men are sick of it. My parents were happily married for 60 years and worked together as a team. Together, they put three college thru college and fulfilled their love of traveling the world over.b To be honest, my mom kind of carried my dad at times. She definitely didn't marry him for his resources but he loved her very deeply to the point where he died four days after she passed, he simply couldn't live without her. I knew how close they were but this came as a shock even to me.
Living now these days is very pricey. Not even minimum wage can get yu an apt bcuz yu have to make 3x the rent in one month. Even the ghetto apts and houses are pricey. SMH
I always thought that you don't need eduacation. But with just the knowledge of survival skills you can live a happy life on an isolated island. Graduating to have a job to earn money blinds you the most important thing which is the true meaning of happiness and freedom.
My 21 year old son quit college & lives in his truck as well as the woods somewhere in Northeast Texas. He started washing his clothes in the creek by our house about a year ago & will only eat food that comes from the ground. He left about 6 months ago. Refused a cell phone. He has a German Shepard with him. I came to this channel to see how surviving in the woods is done. This man is earning cash however. My son refuses to work. He’s going on in his head. So worried. Can’t file a missing persons report because he told us he was leaving to live in the woods. I think the fact that he was attacked by 3 guys one night all for 7 bucks and the loss of his girlfriend had a lot to do with it. Anyway, if anybody else knows someone who is “surviving”, please let me know.
so true, only reason I have a cell phone is for checking out my work schedule. Its posted on HotSchedules. com, and I hate it! If not for that I would drop the only technology I own.....
L O L inspiration. . no. ..who supports the children he left behind? he fucked off from his wife and kids for an easier carefree life. . . no responsibilitys. . no worries. . . no children to be fed and clothed. .NO INSPIRATION. .
Well that is just dandy, how did he pay his child support. How selfish can you get! He should be visiting his kids too,not just them and the children have to pay for hotels too.
I once tried washing a pair of jeans in a small river. WAY strenuous just to get 'em slightly cleaner, and if you try rubbing then on a boulder you'll find them quickly wearing through. Then it takes an entire day to dry them, and when you put the half-clean, gritty, heavily wrinkled and now oddly misshapen things on, you immediately understand the incredible luxury of using modern laundry equipment.
top right corner, click on your profile pic second or third option from the bottom "revert youtube". Then tell 'em exactly how you feel, 'cause I did the same m8.
click on your icon in the top right and at the bottom is says to "revert to old style" or something close. I already did it and gave RUclips a mouthful.
I was a travelling nurse in LA, working nights, sleeping days in my car at the beach, and on weekends I went to campsites for a hot shower. On the east coast in Florida I got my hot showers from belonging to Planet Fitness. I accumulated a lot of money living like that.
Just the bare necessities the simple bare necessities forget about the worries and your strife. I mean the bare necessities the simple bare necessities of life.
The "bare necessities of life are water, food and shelter, and they COST PLENTY at some point in your life, unless you live on federal welfare, state welfare, or some other kind of sustenance!
The idiocy, limited scope of conventional economics is an obstacle that impedes human evolution. The supply is the demand. It's all predicated on a master and slave dichotomy to maximize corporate profits at the cost of our health and the health of the planet. The reptilian corporate entities will inevitably render themselves extinct. If you choose to submit to plutocratic control, then love cannot save you from your fate.
TheColdHard Truth would u follow a friend or family member if they asked u to give up all the luxuries if modern society to live like and among animals without electricity without knowledge of the outside world tell me would u do it?
+Robotic Ghost yes I would if place was he or she of that friend or family member want to go live with if the place was a idea place I been looking in other ways to live with out the crazy of Bill's or the uncaring of others
TheColdHard Truth eaiser said than done I'm betting uve lived ur entire life with modern luxuries then to suddenly live outside with no experience on how to survive with only the resources of were ever u are tell me what are u going to eat? We're u going to sleep? How are u going to build a shelter? With no outside help no tools or electronics to help u and finally tell me how are u going to support living that kind of lifestyle?
Robotic Ghost living in woods I eat what I kill where I sleep I fix a tree house using what in the wild and how take care me do what I was shown how to you think I know nothing about live with out the modern conveniences that is where you wrong
This is fun to watch as we are sipping on hot English tea with honey and vanilla in a warm building with a coal fired computer, lights and music. Would be hard to crawl into a hobbit hole every day.
"Walden Pond: A Life in the Woods" by Henry Thoreau. Is about a man who didn't want his life to be about serving the State. He wanted to live a deliberate life. One where each decision he made was thought-out from the point of view of his life belonging exclusively to him. Therefore, he wanted to avoid taxes and the draft. He lived on land that belonged to a friend so that no documentation of where he resided could be found. Uncle Sam did find him and threw him in jail for not paying taxes and draft-dodging. So he only lived at Walden Pond for two years. There may be no escaping the man but we should all keep trying.
He's living the dream. Free, dealing with his hardships instead of food for another who steals your hard earned cash and then slaps you in the face with the money they steal from you. What's in your wallet doesn't work for me ither. Thumbs Up!
I used to think the Amish was crazy. As I get older, I understand the genius.
Yes I feel the same
Same, but now mad respect.
Choosing to live a simple life and not be part of the art race, does not make you poor. If it is a choice, it frees you and makes you rich.
I totally agree with him on house payments. Biggest ripoff next to insurance.
Offthbadan who said you needed to own a house? That's just capitalism and humans creating a "need" that really isn't necessary. Insurance is different because the prices are generally the same and it is required by law which makes no sense if our only options are from businesses
Offthbadan yup and if paid off and you pass away yr children can lose it through probate unless you retitle it properly
Offthbadan oh and car payments are insane too. Greedy corporate America.
That is why you live the van life. Live free!!
Offthbadan thank you.... can't even keep your own money... for a whole month...!!!
Adam Weston goodluck cant you see he doesn't have sex
Same!
He "used to have kids?" You divorce your wife, not your kids.
Well said. But the wife or society will accept the living conditions
You all are confused. He does not live in poverty. He lives simple. He has a means and options to make money...he has money
DontRely OnaHandOut bet he doesn't pay child support
Greg, I'm thinking since he's 50 maybe his kids are adults now or 30 with kids of their own....not to diminish the child support thing...cause that shit is important
Iguess these people are just not
Of what more of this World needs / not impressed. Who wants to live in such place and like that?
@@foxycockvideos why are we all not eaqualy as clever to have eaqualy all the bare neccessities for every day living

I'll be homeless soon. can't find work, but have survival skills. wish me luck.
J Simo homeless? Whats your plan? I will give one advice: be homeless is WARM environment. So, go south. Homeless in the cold north is Hell. Temperature makes a HUGE differdnce to homeless experience.
Don't worry....it's not that bad.....give up drugs and alcohol.....those two things make homelessness difficult.
Same boat as you friend i live in rural nebraska good luck to you hope your still ok mate!
Good luck, try living in a van or pickup, theres plenty of vids on that
Get a bike, look for an easy job and work your way up. Or get a van then live there!
Don't do drugs.
When you truly discover an inner content ness you will realise material things are utterly meaningless. A peace of mind is all that one needs.
Good idea!
cleaned out my moms bedroomcloset, while she stayed with my sister.Took 7 hours to bag up, separate, and throw out junk. Now she can relax, and be treated like the sweet 79 year old mom, she is.

more or less...
Are you trying to sound philosophical? How is less more in so many ways?
TK JOHN :( Having less material possession makes you less dependent.

Plenty of friendly social activities to participate in and we also have our own hobbies.
thezackseven how are you off the grid posting comments online...FOH!
1973poty you can go to a library lol
Cam Good you're full of shit. . .
It's pretty difficult to live today with no money at all!
most of us are owned by our things rather than the reverse, refreshing to see a man with a understanding of simplicity n happiness
Amy Garson ohhh yeah well tell me who owns u?? Stop trying to act all philosophical
Amy Garson what about his family he just forgot about? What are they to fend for themselves bc he wants to be a bum
N00z The greed for more is owning us all. While we can survive on primary needs, we'll keep on climbing in material desires. It's an endless road fullfilled with unneeded stress.
Piet Henk speak for ur self, not everyone thinks like that
it many ways sometimes i do feel that the things i own become more of a burden then they often bring me happiness. wasnt supposed to be a upsetting statement never the less people get upset easy, im guessing this will be much of the same. anyways carry on with ur happiness or lack there off?
I like this guy he's living good he's living free truly
I do the same thing....... Society is a lost cause. I feel it brings me closer to Jesus.
Justin Grimm yep they all traded their Christian souls for Donald Trump.

As I did also David Brown. Peace be with all of you
From the movie fight club " the more stuff you own, the stuff begins to own you". I think that's how it goes.
Whoever disliked this is just jealous of what this man has and does or are just greedy and make fun of him
Issxy MSP I'm for fucking sure not jealous of a man that turns his back on 2 kids so he can "live for himself"
that's not extreme poverty. have you seen families eating from thrash, their beds made with cardboard boxes with no roofs over their heads, now that's extreme
Because you won't die tomorrow.
It takes humility to really pull away from society and go off the grid. Peace and love to this man ✌❤
Most people will just skip passed this video thinking they would Never do this.
This guy is extreme. But we, Americans, need to find an in between from our wasteful lifestyle to this simplistic way.
It's all about balance.
David Miller is there balance in bringing 2 kids into the world then bailing on your responsibilities?
I agree. Balance is key. Material things should not carry near the weight that most of my fellow Americans put on it.
Most people today are so narcissistic and materialistic to live this simple.
There is nothing extreme with this video. Freeedom

Unemployment rate today is actually the lowest it's been in 20 years. These people to choose to live like this. No sympathy for them.

What would happen if your not in a hospital? Do you mean its so painfull?
Ive lived in a utility van for two years, insurance and registration adds to 900$ a year that's my rent. Phone bill, gas, propane, dog food, my only costs. My footprint is light as it can in America without living outside
I bet he has bugs & toads for dinner...charges people to cross his bridge
Freedom to do whatever you like.not being shackled or dictated by everything or everyone.its quite rare and only the brave does.i admire you sir
While the 1% live like kings. . .
But does he truly live off grid? He is part of a monetary economy...
I say just be wise about your money don't spend too much don't save too much because you're just saving for the banks to make more from you. Your money is not 100% secure in the bank if the bank can claim bankruptcy.
deadbeat dad is soo inspirational.
In the great words of Master Yoda,..."Attachment leads to jealousy, the shadow of greed that is.Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose" I would give anything to be able to live as this man chooses to
The_Dizzy_Piper it's not as hard as you think.

Brazilian psychiatrist Flavio Gikovate used to say: being rich is having more of the same.
So, to heck with his kids?? He just splits? I couldn't do it
I see massive amounts of child support contributions in your future buddy! Enjoy!
his wife left him and moved to OR.......sounds like she split......
I think his kids are adults.
This is a dream for me... going off the grid is true freedom. Clean water, food, clothing & shelter is all we need

This is true Life!! I bet he is healthier than majority and more happy as well!! Respect!
That's not poverty. I almost believed it until the "propert he owns" part. Lamest four minutes of my life watching this video.
he was renting the property yearly.
Jonathan Strange he leases the property for $100.00 a year and makes $5,000.000 a year so yes he lives in poverty! I wonder if you have any comprehension skills at all.
His rent is $100 month so $1,200 yearly. He pays $6 month/$72 year
I Am Love I have no idea where you got any of those numbers from but you didn't pay attention to the video either.
I Am Love i think it said 100 per year
In exchange he had to leave his family, that's just plain stupid.
With rent prices going up mortgages lot more people going to be living in poverty.
latino heat scary but true!!
Rent out extra rooms,
Rent out your bedroom, you sleep in the living room.
There are options
If he chose his lifestyle then is it still poverty? It's minimalism, not poverty. If we use the official definition of poverty as "the state of being extremely poor" then all the country's children are living in poverty because they have no or very little money of their own. However, that is not the case. By definition, I grew up living in poverty until I finished school. I have always lived in a warm, comfortable house with loving parents who have always been willing to provide for and care for me. Poverty is really just another word for suffering. This man is not suffering and I don't believe he is in poverty. I empathise with him and to be honest, I'm slightly jealous.
So how does he pay child support?
James Eberhart in nuts and Berry's he gathers!!
James Eberhart That's the beauty of our society. Since he doesn't work, they can't garnish his wages for child support. So, we end up being the ones to support his children with our hard earned taxes, while he gets to do what he wants.
Karen - His children are all grown, do the math. Don't be bitter just because your hubby split lol
Gigantic Harry Tarantula How do you know when he split? You don't know how long he has been living like that. He could have split when the kids were young and owes thousands in child support. Usually that's the case.
+John Kimber I have a wonderful life thank you very much. What's your problem? Did I hit a nerve? Something you don't like to talk about?
I don't think he is living in poverty. He has everything he needs. He is living a simple life.
Have to admire his simplicity... "We can appreciate without attaching ourselves to the things of this world." ~ Abdul-Baha, Baha'i Faith
I really wish that anybody who creates a video for others to watch, would stop playing music in the background. That realky makes it hard to understand the narrators. Sometimes the music is even louder than the speaker. Grrr

WATER ON CEREAL!! THATS A CRIME.
its not just any water neither. its flint michigan water. muahahahaha

Cheers to you.😃
Is this another version of living in a van down by the river?
You inquiring or whats wrong with you?
RIP Mr Farley... you know my dad does that whole thing with the glasses it halarious
Must be quite a lady to chooser HER over the lifestyle man. Congrats
He puts all of us sitting on RUclips watching this right now to SHAME lol 😂 what true inspiration 😍💯💎
What happened to his kids? Fathers abandoning their children makes for very inspirational stories. smh, -_-
Lotus Dream Not eveyone is married lmao, he could just be single and never had any kids
Paradoxum the video says he had a wife and kid, ^_^
kids were probably grown, and like my brother my parents might see him 4 times a year, he only lives 2hrs away
Lotus Dream Ye he might've divorced and his children grew up. He's pretty old
Lotus Dream that was my first thought. Great roll model dad..
Did anyone else notice the $300 dollar Patagonia jacket he was wearing??
Gotta downsize in life come in with nothing leave with nothing but memories.
Freedoms just another word for nothing left to lose!
NewHampshire Jack Let me 1st say how happy I am that things worked out so well for you after
the tragic loss of your bride to cancer. I'm glad that you met such a nice woman in the "Phils".
Unfortunately, at this time in my life, I just can't pick up and go. I'm too close to retirement. I have heard others comment that women in the Philippines can be wonderful. American women need to up their game.
Feminism is a joke. I'm all for equal pay for equal work but don't demand equality and then expect
guys to carry your ass. Yes Hr1s7i, I realize that it's in their very genes but men are sick of it.
My parents were happily married for 60 years and worked together as a team. Together, they put three college thru college and fulfilled their love of traveling the world over.b To be honest, my
mom kind of carried my dad at times. She definitely didn't marry him for his resources but he loved her very deeply to the point where he died four days after she passed, he simply couldn't live without her.
I knew how close they were but this came as a shock even to me.
There are women in the United States who are faithful, devoted to the success of family, honor their vows- AND were attractive, pleasant women.
Yes, there is Carrie. I was blessed to be married to one of those girls for twenty-seven years.
I live a couple hours away from Joseph this dude seem pretty cool
We are what we make of ourselves!Sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worst.
My kinda guy who hates to work lol
his way of life is work
PRO _ TIPS ✓®™ I hate to work for others. I work for me
My 21 year old son quit college & lives in his truck as well as the woods somewhere in Northeast Texas.
Must get cold there in the winter
Fire...
so true, only reason I have a cell phone is for checking out my work schedule. Its posted on HotSchedules. com, and I hate it! If not for that I would drop the only technology I own.....
True inspiration.
L O L inspiration. . no. ..who supports the children he left behind? he fucked off from his wife and kids for an easier carefree life. . . no responsibilitys. . no worries. . . no children to be fed and clothed. .NO INSPIRATION. .
daniel Kelly stop jump to conclusions and jugde people.
Well that is just dandy, how did he pay his child support. How selfish can you get! He should be visiting his kids too,not just them and the children have to pay for hotels too.
He gets no sex though. Not worth being cheap like that
Daffy B, his children are grown? Did he raise them to adulthood? Did he not disappear from their lives when they were young?
He has everything except his family, so he has nothing
lucky man god bless him
I once tried washing a pair of jeans in a small river. WAY strenuous just to get 'em slightly cleaner, and if you try rubbing then on a boulder you'll find them quickly wearing through. Then it takes an entire day to dry them, and when you put the half-clean, gritty, heavily wrinkled and now oddly misshapen things on, you immediately understand the incredible luxury of using modern laundry equipment.
the new youtube layout is utter trash
top right corner, click on your profile pic second or third option from the bottom "revert youtube". Then tell 'em exactly how you feel, 'cause I did the same m8.
click on your icon in the top right and at the bottom is says to "revert to old style" or something close. I already did it and gave RUclips a mouthful.
thanks guys
It's almost exactly the same, with a little visual retouch.
In what way is it trash?
Gitfacehal not at all i cant find the fucking subs or anything everything was ontop now theres nothing anywhere just white!
The unemployment rates are at an all time high????? Where????
If everyone lived like this our economy would collapse and poverty would be the only option. No thanks.
That's not poverty. It's just a different paradigm. An older consception of wealth.
You also have to take into account that he LEFT his wife and KIDS feel inspired now?
Robotic Ghost do you know for sure he not try to get them to come with him and live this easy ?
Yup, stuff is not that important!!!
Candy Short but supporting your kids sure as fuck is.
There may be no escaping the man but we should all keep trying.
sounds more like frugal as fuck as opposed to impoverished
Avoiding child support 101
He's living the dream. Free, dealing with his hardships instead of food for another who steals your hard earned cash and then slaps you in the face with the money they steal from you. What's in your wallet doesn't work for me ither. Thumbs Up!
I don't dream of living in a filthy hole in the ground like a gopher.....
I think it takes alot of strength and willpower to do what this man is doing
Proud of his wife who stepped up and did all the sacrificing
Nice story. I am really starting to understand where people like him are coming from. Thanks for the vid!☺🌈
...When you hate your wife and kids so much that one morning you just decide to go out into the woods and start anew living like Smeagol.
