    I don't know why Mike is upset about Vanille committing genocide. If anything, that should be making him love her since he seems to commit genocide on a fairly regular basis in his streams. Maybe he's upset that he didn't commit genocide instead.

    I'm glad that Mike had a chance to see how the summons work. The mega-phoenix is indeed nice, but I hope he experiment more and see what else what they can be useful for.
    I know this is about to happen soon, but wonder if Mike can figure 1) who Vanille's Eidolon is and 2) what form it will take when it uses gestalt mode. That'd be a fun time for him to figure out.
    It reallys seems that Mike is enjoying the combat based on how he explained in detail that Juggernaut fight. FFVII R probably spoiled me, but I wished that the game slows down (like how you use abilities in VIIR) whenever you switch paradigms as 1 mistake with switching the wrong paradigm can cause you the whole fight.

    The Sentinel as a crappy tank with poor positioning was a major annoyance for me having played MMOs for so long.

    It's been a long time since I played 13 but I vaguely remember getting all of the non chocobo and non-turtle blocked chests on my first visit. I literally explored the entire main area as soon as I got there. The fight were hard at first but drop so much cp that even if you aren't trying to grind, you end up getting your characters to a good spot. I think if Mike would have explored the entire zone and just fought the doggos he would have gotten enough cp to up his health enough to handle the behemoths. He could have also easily killed the first Juggernaut with a paradigm change. I've noticed he hasn't played around with a lot of the character combos and paradigm combos and I think if he would have had swapped out Lightning for Hope, he could have had double medic, double sab, and double syn paradigms, as well as double rav+sen. Those buffs would have taken him the distance. Part of the problem is I think he still hasn't realized that non-Commando classes can also reduce the Stagger bar drop, such as Sen Provoke or Sab debuffs. It's all good though, I'm glad he's enjoying the game, I've yelled since it's original release that it was massively underrated and I hope it gets him to play the sequels which I also love.
    PS Is Mike one of those people that has like 1000 unread emails in his inbox? The lack of clearing the exclamation marks in the Shops, datalogs, etc, has driven me crazy since his first day in the game.

    To be fair, the party murdered a good number of psycom and guardian force soldiers - also Humans - without even knowing what their focuses were, plus the people Snow and his gang got killed, by making them follow him (albeit they would have died either way, so...) . It would be a bit hypocritical to call only Vanille and Fang out about the murder, without adressing their own guilt.
    Not to mention that Vanille attacked this mysterious cocoon from the outside. The only "information" she had on what is inside Cocoon, back in the day, was the propaganda she's been fed about Cocoon being hell, just like the people of Cocoon were told that Pulse was a hell, where every living thing was supposedly a sadistic monster. And I'm sure the purges within Cocoon killed a lot more people over the many decades or centuries, than the single attack by Ragnarok did.
    Alexander was always a "living castle" so him turning into a wall kind of makes sense, even if it's quite the downscale to previous Final Fantasies. In FF8 he loomed over a hill in the distance. In FF9 he is towering over a regular stone castle... and here he's a 2 or so meter tall wall. ^^

    The funny thing is he figured out that you're supposed to sell the credit chips (though not after using the first few as upgrade materials), but not all the other items you're supposed to sell like the seeds or perfume. There's been about 150K gil worth of perfume used as upgrade components so far.
    Granted, this is a bit of a UX failure. They could have made a fourth category icon for all the "you should sell this" components, or at least not auto-sort them into the middle of your component list just like all the other upgrade components, but I think this was still a few years before having a junk/vendor item tab became popular in RPGs. Since you have to select and read the item text for every item and there's a hundred different components, I'm not surprised that he didn't read them all.

    The Quickenings from FF12 are a real gamble where they could potentially do huge damage, but could also do really low damage.
    The Zodiac Age version at least separated MP from the Mist guage, but in the original PS2 version you would effectively sacrifice all your magic to do a Quickening and do barely any damage at all

      I don't think he's gonna struggle with most of the boss fights anymore, once you get access to the full party and the crystarium fully unlocks, the difficulty for bosses at least drops and as long as he doesn't bump into mobs that are clearly not around his level, it should be an easy run.

      @noztkFor me it's the narritive and characters. Throughout all the base game Lightning was the most boring and uninteresting character to me. While XIII-2 hyped Lightning up in the lore, she was just a glorified cameo in it, so I didn't mind it too much there, but now she's the be-all-end-all sole saviour of the universe and only hope of life and yada yada.
      In 13-2 I didn't like how you now only had two people plus one slot for monsters, in place of a proper party. And what does LR do? Rather than reverse on the party shrinking, do away entirely with the party and have Lightning of all people be the sole playable character.
      And who's her most frequent conversation partner? Hope... but not the more tolerable 13-2 Hope, but the baby Hope, who was the second most boring character, after Lightning (and yes, I know the "twist", but it doesn't make it any better).
      Yay... I'm going to spend most of my time with the two most boring and one-dimensional characters of FF13...
      Yeah the gameplay wasn't really my thing either, but I feel I could have survived that, if the story and characters and all that were good, but like this I didn't make it to the second zone, about 80 minutes in. -_-
      I watched a story play-through on RUclips and yeah...the story isn't my cup of tea either. I don't feel that I missed anything by only watching, rather than playing it.

    For ANY of the Adamant mobs, your best option is to summon ASAP cos that knocks out their legs and makes them useless for a while, after that you can either spam death til you snipe it or kill it the normal way, for some of the post game fights that's very much the go to tactics as someone that 100% this game on the PS3 years ago and is now replaying it cos i got that urge when i saw Mike playing it. Also eventually you'll reach like 15k+ hp.

    Japan has a strong cultural memory of nuclear strikes hitting them. Which is reflected in a lot of media like Akira and Godzilla. Given that they pulse and cocoon were opposed, it is not out of thw question that a japanese writer would touch on the ideas of massive strikes like this. And have the person responsible be a young and seemingly sweet girl. To add some irony or food for thought.

      It's the games responsibility to clear up these things, and have the characters react appropriately. The game's character interactions are awful, and he points this out several times throughout the playthrough how Lightning gives away the knife from her sister when she was on her deathbed or how ridiculous Snow is trying to carve (?) out his wife or Hope's TED talks of someone who knows very little, and the list goes on. In coming videos the group similarly acts without proper reason as well. Motivations and conflict is REALLY handled poorly throughout this game. From what he's seen so far probably the worst story and storytelling of any FF game despite the combat probably being the most engaging. Hopefully they right a lot of wrongs in the future. Regardless, I think he'll play FFXIII-2 for the combat alone.

    In Final Fantasy 10, another story by Motomu Toriyama, the protagonists' goal is to genocide the people of Zanarkand, and that's treated as a good thing. They are not just ghosts endlessly playing out their former lives, or something like that. No, Tidus is a living, thinking, even corporeal person who exists in a real civilization that happens to perpetuate its existemce as a result of the power of "summoning". Jean Luc Picard wouldn't deny their right to exist on that basis, and neither should anyone else. The things that happen in Zanarkand, like kids asking for Tidus' autograph, his dad being an alcoholic, or him playing a sports game, are all real, spontaneous events lived by autonomous, conscious beings. You murdered millions of people just to prevent the occasional beachfront property damage in Spira. Good job, everyone! Motomu Toriyama is apparently a person who treats mass murder very cavalierly in his stories.

    can we stop comparing FF12's gambits to FF13? it's fking stupid.
    gambits are a completely optional system, and even if you do use it you have to program it yourself.
    in 13 2/3rds of your party play themselves and you can't switch leader mid battle.
    they are not even comparable.

    • @Norbert_Sattler
      @Norbert_Sattler 5 месяцев назад +1

      Yep, 12 allowed you to control every single action of your entire party, if that was what you wanted and the gambit system was just if you didn't want to micromanage everything. Also it didn't give you a game-over, from a single one of your characters dying. That's probably the stupidest thing in all of FF13, that you just wipe, even when the other two are still alive and able to resurrect...

    • @Kanokey
      @Kanokey 5 месяцев назад +1

      The closest comparison is FFX-2 with the dress spheres. Basically, it's the same system, and they both come from the same game directors

    • @JPrescottQ
      @JPrescottQ 5 месяцев назад +1

      Calling the gambit system "optional" isn't a good argument. It is a major system of the game and is intended to be used by everyone. Optimal FF12 leans heavily on automated party members with occasional player intervention. The more game knowledge you have, the less player interventions are required because you can tailor the gambit for upcoming fights.
      All FF13 does is auto program the gambits for you while the player dictates the flow of the encounter with occasional direct intervention. These are very similar systems with some small, but key differences.
      So no, it's not dumb to compare these games.
